Kayak Fishing with Pastor Murray. Fishing brings the Kid out in me. Why fish if you don't have fun doing it? Join me and let's learn how to catch some fish, have a good time and make some memories. I enjoy sharing tips, techniques, and methods of catching fish. Kayak fishing is my passion and helping others to learn how to kayak fish brings me joy. Stripers, Bass, Redfish, Speckled Trout and Sheepshead are sone of my favorites. I especially like to target large Stripers on Lake Hartwell, Lake Russell, Lake Murray, Lake Clarks Hill. Fishing with Planer Boards and live bait such as Blueback Herring and Rainbow Trout ups the game on catching Trophy Stripers. Kayak Sleigh Rides are the best. My kayak is an Old Town Topwater 120 PDL pedal kayak and is a game changer. I like to share my setup and what works in the videos. Thank you for watching! God Bless and Tight Lines! Pastor Murray
I'll be fishing again in August. I will be installing a trolling motor on my kayak too. You have a very cool setup. We fish in the Gulf of Mexico for Redfish and trout.
Awesome! Thank you for watching. Here is a link to the RU-vid Video on how I setup my trolling motor in case you haven't viewed it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1qyjzW9zexc.htmlsi=mzA2VNeul_Z9htma
Bradley, Awesome! Thank you so much. Since the video was published, I've shortened the shute to about 4”. Also, I remove the shute leaving the filter attached to the shute to rinse out the scales in the lake water. The shute slides on and off a lot easier than the filter.
Another well done production including the Claire Lynch vocals. I hope you enjoyed your vacation ; I had eagerly expected another faith-filled video for several weeks since I always learn something with each new release. Pastor Murray would you kindly answer the following questions w.r.t. striper trolling techniques ? Do you ever use light weights (1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 oz.) to take your live trout, herring or bream slightly deeper ? Would you Kindly consider disengaging the reel clicker mechanism soon after you start reeling in the fish ? In approximately how many yards of forward movement does it take for you to complete one S turn cycle ? God bless you and your family and Tight Lines, Jim Pecheur
Hi Jim, Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. The vocals are actually my wife singing. I thought "Deeper In the Hole" would make a good theme song for my Channel. To answer your questions: Concerning small weights to take the bait deeper. I don't use lead weights, but sometimes I use up to three red glass beads ranging in size from 1/4" to 3/8" diameter. I prefer to used faceted glass beads from Hobby Lobby. The beads serve multiple purposes: first, as a line stop against the planer board pigtail swivel. Second, two or three glass beads will rattle against each other as the bait swims (especially for Herring). Third, they add some weight. As a rule of thumb, I set the length of line behind the planer board equals the water depth that I am fishing. Also, the bait should be above the Stripers line of sight. Concerning the Clicker: I'll try to get in a habit to set it to the off position after a fish is on. There's a lot going on when a Striper is on. I'm hard of hearing, so the Clicker is important, especially when I have two rods behind me. Distance between a complete Zig and Zag cycle is approximately 70 yards. But it varies based on speed and conditions. If I'm going against current, I may not be covering much distance at all. Also, I vary speed, distance and depth (height of the wave) of the ZigZag. Also, pausing for a minute or so is a good technique. I've had lots of striper runs when I'm baiting a hook and the other three lines are not moving. So, the pause is an effective technique. Thanks for the questions! Good Luck! God Bless You and Yours! Pastor Murray
Thank you! No, I power my graph with a separate 18amphour AMG battery that I had before adding the trolling motor. It works well. I would go with an 18amphour LiFePo battery for the weight factor. This is a link to what I recommend. NERMAK 12V 18Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery, 2000+ Cycles Lithium Iron Phosphate Rechargeable Battery for Solar Power, UPS, Lighting, Marine, Scooters, Fish Finder and More, Built-in 20A BMS a.co/d/5xqQKBy
Great trip tough break on the big one. Lots of trees around there get him next time . Caught a 24 last april across the lake from that landing. Enjoy your videos . Took a trip to charleston over the week end caught two nice reds and a good size ray.
Keith, Thank you! I'll keep trying for that Big'un. Your 24# is nothing to sneeze at. It's definitely tougher to get them out of the trees in that part of the lake. Glad that you had a good trip to Charleston. Tightlines Friend!
Nice fish Murray . My wife and i were down there sunday after the rain caught 4 on herring the biggest was 14 lbs my wife did catch a 10lb hybrid. Great video enjoyed it.
Thank you! I run the trout 20 to 30' behind the place board. Rule of thumb is same as water depth. No weights, just hook, swivel, and two 5/16 or 3/8 diameter glass beads. The beads act as somewhat of a weight.
Sure wish I had seen this about 2 weeks ago. I went down a couple weeks ago. The wind was blowing about 17mph and I was throwing a vudu shrimp, still caught a few, but nothing like you did. Like your set-up and your video's. I guess I should have used live shrimp. God bless and keep on fishin!
It's a fun time When I was young, I worked hard I didn't have time to do anything, but now I'm doing my own fun hobby. It's fun just to look at it. Stay healthy.
Four boards off kayak may be too many to manage when you get a fish on, I have fished for Stripers for over40 years mostly with live shad and at night swim baits we would float a ballon in spring time to get top water action also at night we fished top water lures you could hear stripers crashing like cannon balls as they chased shad along banks praying that Gods Holy Spirit blesses your ministry.
Thank you! Most of the time, I can manage the four boards and get the fish in without issues. But every once and a while, I have to spend time untangling. But that happens in a boat as well. Regardless, it's fun and can have its challenges. I like the idea using a balloon and may try that. Thanks for the tip and for watching. God's Blessing to you and yours!
Thank You! It works great while trailering the kayak. When I'm camping with an RV, I haul it with a load extender on a Jeep Wrangler. I found out the trolling motor/battery is a little too much for me to handle when loading on the load extender.
Great Trip. Always fun to watch & learn. Have you tried launching from abercrombie boat ramp off of Bluff road, and try out the train trestle bridge for sheepshead?
I bought some Topfin water conditioner from Pet Smart for a few bucks and it has a measuring cup for the cap and takes very little per gallon I never thought of using rock salt though. I’m still trying to figure out what causes the water to lift out of the top of the PVC 90?
The volume of the water in the PVC pipe becomes less dense with the introduction/saturation of the bubbles. It's effective to raise the water a few inches. Same principle as an aquarium airlift filter. Here is my link to an improved version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zAUTgbW7TOw.htmlsi=r4vCiGs_KDWeiedH
I actually have the smaller Magellan bait box. I bout the dual battery/12v bubble box from Academy for 14 dollars and bought the 6” air stone from Pet Smart for 10 or 12 dollars and I use ice cubes to regulate the water temperature
Really like your setup. I am starting to setup my pedal drive and happy to see that the way I want to do it is similar to yours and that it works. I like your kill switch that’s a great idea.
Thank you so much! I really enjoy the versatility of the kayak. The kill switch is pricy, but I consider it an essential once you add an electric motor. Thanks for watching!
