Welcome to The Glass Toe where we will immerse ourselves into the world of shoe shining.
Why this channel ? well I love to shine shoes. I find it very relaxing and I figured maybe others would too. I enjoy shining shoes on camera because it creates a new dynamic to an already enjoyable hobby. Making videos causes me to slow down, feel the shoes and my tools in ways I normally miss out on. Its sort of like stopping to smell the roses. Recording video has caused me to take the scenic route in shoe shining, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the trade. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Cheers !!
Thanks for the clip. Got a pair of Dr Martin boots with splitting shoe sole. Tried Shoe gooe glue didn't work. Believe , has to be a polyurethane base . What brand would you suggest? Thanks,
Your title says the "correct way to clean Thursday boots rugged and resilient" but I wouldn't agree. You shouldn't be using any oils on the rugged and resilient leather, and you sprayed mink oil all over the boot. This is not advised for this type of leather.
Thank you for watching! That's why it's a spray, it's special made for textured leathers. Creams and lotions will alter texture. Mink spray will do nothing if you do it right. And it will not darken your leathers. I've used it on ivory suede boots with no issue. Mink oil will darken leather though. There is a difference.
@@TheGlassToe Ah, right on. But isn't Mink spray just mink oil in spray form? Maybe they key would be "if you do it right"? By that, I assume you mean just very VERY lightly? I will say I've seen multiple people on the Thursday thread on Reddit complaining about making the mistake of using mink oil. That includes spray. I've also seen countless people advise against it. That includes people on Reddit, the owner of Thursday on Reddit and Thursday in other places online, as well as two or three cobblers on RU-vid showing how to cleaning videos. The common theme is not to use it unless you want to change the appearance of your leather. That's just what all of the experts and the creator of the boot say. So I don't use it on any of my R&R leather, and my boots are all doing great.
Mink oil, yes don't use normal mink oil its too heavy. Exactly why it's not recommended for any textured leathers. Mink oil spray, although still Mink oil, by nature applies thinly and evenly, you also apply it evenly and thinly. Mink oil alone is too heavy. You also need to understand cobblers and owners will often tell people not to do something that isn't inherently bad but can be if done incorrectly. This avoids being held responsible for issues from user error. This spray is made for textured leather. Do you have to use it, no. Can someone use it and complete mess up their shoes, yes , if they don't apply it correctly. The same can be said for any conditioner for any leather. You apply too much you will over saturated your leather, clog pores, and create dry Rot. I've done this for a long time with no issues. I work in a cobler shop, I work with leather, I create things from leather, Take that to mean what you will. Everyone has their own methods of doing things, just because some say it's wrong doesn't necessarily mean it's the only way. My title is to catch attention. Whichever way keeps your boots looking how you want and healthy is all that matters.
@@TheGlassToe Ah, I see. Yeah, that makes sense in terms of the owner. I suppose it could be easier to say don't use mink oil whatsoever, than saying it's only okay to use spray, and only if you use spray very lightly. Although there are ways to circumvent the companies liability due to customer misuse. Maybe that's just chose to say don't use it at all because it's not completely necessary and to avoid headaches. I can't see why independent third party cobblers on RU-vid and people commenting on Reddit and other places online would also feel the need to say this, all for the sake of not being liable for damages caused by improper application of mink oil. Anyway, I'm not trying to argue or be a jerk about it or anything. Tone of speech is lost though text. Especially when you don't know the person. So, although I've said some things in contradiction to what you've said. It's not a challenge and I'm not trying to be rude. I genuinely appreciate your insight. I'm just trying to share my thoughts and perspective. Regardless, I appreciate you sharing yours as well. All the best to you.
You made your boots look awesome and unbelievable. Great job. I have the exact same boot but didn’t get in depth with shining them all up yet. But great video.
Some things are meant to be maintained and quality boots are definitely one of them ! Not only are you respecting the animal by making sure you don't just toss the boots away at the slightest sight of wear BUT you are doing what was intended by makers of quality good. Long lasting sustainability by repairing and not replacing. Plus, Nothing beats a well worn boot !
@@TheGlassToe Thats too true, if you nourish the leather it will last many years. Sadly dr matens, they sold themselves to china for cheaper labour. Im gutted cuz its gave them a bad name past 20 years!!
I have a special edition double stitched pair of dockers 16 lace in cherry red made in 2010, my left boot is like new but the right has many black marks on the front creases on toe 😢 Any idea how I could repair these? They were a coloberation by a company that were made at the original England factory for a Thailand brand
Without seeing them I can't recommend something 100% you can email me at theglasstoe@gmail.com and send me some photos. I'd love to try and help you out
@@TheGlassToe Thanks, I have recently applied some trg dye since first piston this matter, 3 times 24 hours and it seems to be working mate, what's your fav clear go to shine?
I'm guessing that , that's water? If it said, then I missed it. I've owned red wing work boots, lace up. But I didn't even know they made cowboy boots. Learn something everyday!!😊
I can't stop smiling after watching this splendid Red Wing Iron Ranger Clean & Care ASMR video. Not only because I absolutely loved it but also after reading ridiculous comments from some "I-know-better" tryhards, ignorants and your responses to them. They are as smooth as great the boots look after you've taken care of them. Thanks, best video I've seen so far today and I was looking >exactly< for that. I'm just waiting for my two (used) pairs of classic Mocs from RW to arrive (should be tomorrow) and I'm preparing to cleaning the shit out of them during the weekend. I will mimicate the procces on my Iron Rangers too. I'm only jelous mine are black, so they won't have that beautiful patina. :)
I watched your video, and I felt it was the best among any shoe care videos. Thanks to you, I'm getting a new pair of boots, and I believe I'll be able to enjoy the best aging experience, all thanks to you :)
I tried just cleaning my rnr tobacco, but it was getting to be a light brown and looked really dry.Tried renovatuer on the top of the shaft, but it got very dark.Got some bicks and I'm happy with the color and mostly the feel,so much better!
They look so good ! Unfortunately not. These are the original Iron Rangers. The boot today's model is based off of. Like the saying goes, they don't make them like they used to.
I absolutely love the Allen Edmonds Hillcrest style! At first i thought they were odd looking with two seams going down the front of the shoe. But now they're are my absolute favorite! Well done 👍
