Wow, hard to believe you didn't lay it down traversing the side of the mountains with all that loose rock. That's crazy. Just like another one of your videos I was like, uh, I don't think that's a trail. LOL. Seems you are part mountain goat.
I just road this trail a few weeks ago, also, solo on a 2021 KTM 690. That section at 2:15 was extremely difficult. Its hard to tell if conditions have changed since @disbanded video but the angle of the two track pushes you into the rocks. I couldn't get my tires to stick on the left side and riding over the big rocks seemed beyond the limitations of the suspension to handle at the necessary speed to keep stability. It kept bucking me off the bike, at 150lbs, maybe youre a bigger/better rider. If you're in the area Id love to see you attempt this again. I turned back after finishing that difficult section as a descending vehicle commented that it gets much more difficult and that he wouldn't take his dirt bike up it.
Yeah that particular section is extremely difficult because there is absolutely no traction and it pulls you down into the loose rocks. I don't remember it being any more difficult above that section though, so that may have changed. I was glad to make it to the top, but I don't necessarily want to do it again. Too tough!
@@disbanded1 absolutely. Almost as happy as I was to get down black bear pass, but I would do it again on a pw50 if I had to just to get those views again.
@@disbanded1 bummer. I went in 2018 and 19 in August. It opened only a couple of hours before we got there the last time. Super sketchy but so worth it. Hope you get another chance!
Colorado is so amazing! Ive been out there to ride either mt bikes or dualsport bikes 4 times. Enough to see endless possibilities. Im in CA and there is great riding here if you know where to go. But Colorado is Colorado. I recently picked up a lightly used 21 690 and am getting the set up done, its an amazing bike! I put in 3 years and 20,000 miles on an 890R but its just not really a dirtbike for me. Great bike, big bike. One false move it can eat you for lunch, the 690 is just a big dirtbike. Very rideable and fun to play on.
Awesome man, I hope you enjoy the heck out of your 690. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. There's never a shortage of epic stuff to do in Colorado.
I really don't know much about the area, it was my first time there. I was just exploring for the most part. I was in the North Fruita Desert area where they have over 250 miles of motorcycle trails. They do have some designated mountain bike trails in the area too.
690 is an amazing engine, I just got a 2021 and did some minor mods, fuel dongle/Wings muffler and just that wakes the bike up a lot. Getting rid of the sizzling hot catalytic converter is a great move. One tooth less on the countershaft would be good for roads/trails like in this video. Disbanded is using the stock seat..................son of a bitch that is a tough way to go. He may not sit much.
i run neutech tubliss a 690 enduro and on front wheel of ktm 890 adventure rally. i'm huge fan tubliss. plug flats in 5 mins. i have over 12k miles on pavement on both bikes at speeds up to 85 mph.
Was this from last year? I'm wondering what the snow is currently looking like. P.S. Mousses front and rear. They feel like taking a shower with a raincoat on but sure as hell no flats.
This was last year. After this I actually did switch to mousse and the front didn't last. It went flat after I rode it on the highway, which is pretty much a must for me getting to and from these places. The rear is still on and still working, but the front is done for. The manufacturer told me that they didn't have the exact right size for my front wheel so I'm not sure it's even possible to run one on the front. I might try tubliss. I would rather not carry tire tools.
Yes, amazing scenery and it gets more beautiful the closer you get to Aspen. All the sudden the mountains are red. Check out the change from 5:14 to 5:24.
Nice. No traffic going up from St. Elmo. Every time I've been over Tin Cup I've had to deal with a bunch of oncoming atv and sxs traffic always taking the easy lines. They leave the crappy lines for the two wheelers.
It was still pretty early in the day, so I didn't run into too many. I also edit them out for the most part, but I did not see too many people at all on the way up.
I was actually wearing some older Alpinestars and I do believe this contributed to the ankle sprain. I have since thrown those in the garbage and upgraded to some new Alpinestars Tech 7s, which are so much better and supportive. I don't think the sprain would have even happened in my new pair of boots.
@@disbanded1 That's kind of where I was going with the question. I know really good boots are stupid expensive but man are they worth it when you need them. Stay safe my friend 😊
dang. sorry, bro. thankfully, it's not broken. hope you heal quick. perhaps, this was last summer and you already healed? i rode red cone to webster, last summer, on the 2021 690. scariest part for me was dropping down to webster -steep and loose.
Nicely done, thanks for sharing! Those are some of the most idillic trails anywhere... I've ridden most of them on a 990, a few on my more recent 1190, and a 701 is on the way so I'll have to try them out with a bike like yours, can't wait!
No, that's my lights and apparently I have a twitch where I must always check to make sure it's not on high-beam. I never realized I did that until I watched my own videos.
Awesome video. My buddy and I did the Colorado 500 last year and man it was so incredible. Every pass is spectacular in it's own way, and the views are endless. Imogene has to be one of my favs too, I don't know which I like better, going up or down! Both a ton of fun. Thanks for the video, fun to relive the memories!
great video, right in my own backyard....literally....love my 17 690 as well...what editing program are you using, Quik? Im new to the video stuff and asking alot of questions. I like th pov from the chest mount. Which one is it? thnx from Ouray
Fun ride & gorgeous footage! I haven't searched your other vids yet so this may have been answered previously ... What tool are you using at the beginning? Looks to be an Allen wrench set if some sort you're checking your bike over with before you get rolling. Piqued my interest
I prefer to ride standing up, but on roads like these there is zero traction, so you have to sit down to lower your center of gravity enough to get that traction. Enjoy your new ride!
What time of year was this? Great ride. Also, what might help with the temps is getting a lower degree fan switch. I put one on mine and it seems to make a difference.
