I think it would have worked well, but my sister unplugged my PC while I was outside, and the process was still running, so my computer shut down. Now I only see a message saying the erasure didn't work well, "Click OK to restart the PC." So I can't even open my PC. Is there a way to make it work again? Thx
@JasonBagnell
@JasonBagnell День назад
Hi! If the PC no longer boots into Windows no matter what you try, you can perform a "Clean Install" of the Windows 10/11 operating system. I assume you were trying to completely erase/destroy all of the data on the hard drive so it can be resold or discarded. I made videos on how to perform the "Clean Install" here: For Windows 10: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bP03Y-l9NOM.html For Windows 11: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZMKl9wBJYD0.html You will need an empty 16GB+ flash drive and access to another working Windows-based computer to complete the steps that are required. Once you get the PC running again, you might want to re-run the "Reset this PC" program using the "Clean data: Yes" option to securely erase all unused portions of the hard drive. I hope this helps! -- Jason

Is it normal for my display to not detect anything during this process? I reset and after downloading Windows its been a black screen for over 20min. PC is on but screen detects nothing.
@JasonBagnell
@JasonBagnell День назад
Hi! Is the computer still stuck on the black screen? It has been 16 hours so I hope the problem worked itself out. Some computers have both onboard video outputs and also have an aftermarket graphics card installed. Try connecting your monitor to other video output ports to see if Windows is displayed. Sometimes changing from using an HDMI cable to a VGA cable between the PC and monitor might help you get through the Reset this PC process. Sorry you're having trouble with it -- Let me know what ends up happening. Thanks -- Jason

Hi! You can try creating a bootable USB (Flash Drive) Windows Recovery Drive for your PC, boot from it and then try running the "Reset this PC" program from there. I don't currently have a video on how to create a Windows "Recovery Drive" but I located another RU-vid creator's video that does a great job of explaining how to create it. Hi! There might be some corruption on your hard drive (or the drive's file table) that is causing the problem. Are you able to get to the Windows Desktop screen? If so, click the Start button and then type CMD Click on "Run as Administrator" and a command prompt window should open. Type the following command and press enter: CHKDSK C: /F Reboot the computer and hopefully it will work properly from there. If you can't get to the Windows Desktop, try this: From the Windows Login screen, click on the power button in the bottom right corner, hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard and then click on Restart while holding the shift key down. That will make the PC reboot to the Recovery Console. From there we should run the CHKDSK C: /F command. When the "Choose an option" menu appears, click on Troubleshoot, Advanced, Command Prompt. Hopefully the Command Prompt window will open. Next, you'll need to figure out which drive letter is your main Windows boot drive. Type C: and press enter. Type DIR and press enter. You're looking for the drive that contains the folders, Program Files, Program Files (x86), Users, Windows. If you see those, your boot drive is being called C: in this recovery environment. If not, type D: and press enter. Type DIR and press enter. See if that drive letter has the above mentioned folders. Let's say that you find them on D: drive. Enter the following command: CHKDSK D: /F Once the CHKDSK program has run, reboot the PC and see if the problem still occurs. If the problem remains, you can re-run the "Reset this PC" program directly from the Recovery Console. From the Windows login screen, click the power button, hold down your SHIFT key and click on Restart. When the Recovery Console appears, click on "Troubleshoot" and then click on "Reset this PC" and continue forward like you did last time. Hopefully things will run better because we ran the CHKDSK command. Hopefully some of these suggestions will help! Jason :)

Hi! The boot menu key for your Gigabyte motherboard is probably the F12 key. Try powering on the PC and then start tapping the F12 key and hopefully the boot menu will appear. If you have not installed the new/clean copy of Windows 10 yet, you should be able to select your flash drive (USB, Flash, Sandisk, Lexar, etc). The Windows 10 installation should proceed from there. If you've already performed the first part of the Windows 10 installation, you should unplug the flash drive and allow the PC to boot from the hard drive. If your PC doesn't automatically boot from the hard drive (C:), turn on the PC and start tapping the DELETE key. That should get you into the BIOS/CMOS setup program and you can make sure that the hard drive is the first device listed in the boot menu. It might be helpful to download the manual for your PC's motherboard because it will have information about how to make the adjustments. Here is a link to another (random) Gigabyte motherboard's instruction manual: www.gigabyte.com/FileUpload/Global/WebPage/954/images/B550_A520%20BIOS_e_Web.pdf It mentions how to access the boot menu and BIOS on page 3. I hope this info helps you! -- Jason

My last reply went under the wrong comment. Sorry about that! If the recovery environment is not found, you can create a "recovery drive" (flash drive) specifically for YOUR computer and then boot to it. The "Reset this PC" program is one of the options in the Recovery Environment once you've booted to the newly created flash drive. I don't currently have a video on how to create a "Recovery Drive" but I located another RU-vid creator's video that does a great job of explaining how to create it. Hi! The "Windows Update" program has become MUCH better at finding drivers for most PCs. If your computer is able to connect to the Internet after Windows is reinstalled, run the "Windows Update" program and allow all pending updates to install. In most cases you will not need to install additional drivers for your PC. I showed how to locate drivers for the people whose PC did not automatically install everything that was required. Hi! RU-vid shorts are a mysterious thing. RU-vid initially blasts them out to about 500 people and then they monitor how that audience responds. If the video gets the right signals, RU-vid might end up showing it 70,000,000 times if a larger audience continues to enjoy it. I "borrowed" the footage in this short video from two other creators so maybe that's why it didn't take off. My best ever RU-vid Short video has gotten over 51,000 views to-date and my best ever RU-vid "long" video has been viewed 290,000+ times so far. The short video, "Hump Day Camel" has made $0.76 so far while my 100% original "How to wipe PC before selling..." video has made $1,097.58 so far. I guess I'm better off making LONG videos! -- LOL! Great video! You earned a SUB. You seem to know your stuff, so I hope you don't mind me asking a question. I misunderstood what OneDrive was. I thought it was a storage space, but I found out it was just a mirror of your PC. I recently activated OneDrive so I could share a video via email. I was having trouble, so I wanted to delete everything in OneDrive and only put what I wanted there. Well, in doing so I deleted my entire Desktop. I thought my local drive would remain untouched. While deleting I get a popup window saying something like "Recycle Bin full. Remaining files will be permanently deleted." I clicked continue. Microsoft says there is no way to recover my files. Have I lost everything? Is there no hope? I restored my Recycle Bin, but nothing I wanted was there. I tried Microsoft File Recovery, and although 11,993 files were recovered, my PC says the files are unsupported? Any help or ideas? Thank you.

Yes, some PCs, laptop and Microsoft Surface tablets come preconfigured in Windows S-Mode and they DO require you to enter a valid Microsoft Account to continue the installation. I have not found a reliable way to work around that problem. I made a generic Microsoft Account for myself and use it to setup customer computers whenever I run into that problem. Once Windows is installed, I create a new (local) user account that has administrative rights, log in as that user and then delete the first account that was tied to the generic Microsoft Account. It is definately a pain. Have a great day! -- Jason
