Easily and efficiently mark up any counted stitch chart on your tablet or phone. This channel contains videos to help you get the best from Markup R-XP.
Hi Julie, it sounds like you may need to load your chart using 'Extra' mode. Have a watch of this video for details ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KBkProkMe7c.html. Thanks
This video saved my project. I have a PDF of a Dimensions chart that they kindly sent me but unlike the other PDF charts I've gotten, Markup didn't like it at all and I was so confused on how to get the grid lines straight. The chart itself was perfectly straight but the auto-grid was wonky and I didn't know how to fix it until I manually set the number of rows and columns. Hopefully that helps someone else too. Thank you!
How did you get Dimensions to send you a PDF? I have a Christmas stocking that I'm working on and need a digital file but can't find contact info for Dimensions. Thanks.
@@lgmorris64 Standard practise is to contact Simplicity (the parent company) through their website’s contact form and ask! They do require proof you’re working on it as a personal project so be prepared to take a photo of the kit with all supplies laid out and they will also need the kit number (above the bar code).
Thanks so much for this video. Up to this point, I had only used downloaded pdf patterns but I wanted to do a piece out of a magazine. I had no idea that adjusting the contrast would allow MarkUp to find the grid lines. Thought it was just for finding symbols. 🤯Thanks so much for all you do in leading us through this marvelous application.
Fantastic video! I've watched the majority of your videos and this one really stands out as the most helpful so far. I've loaded 2 PDF (scanned paper charts) so far and I was still having some trouble aligning the grid on my multipage chart. I believe that's because I was not hitting the apply button when I was finished adjusting the free drag. The chart seems to be lined up fairly well now but I may go back and play a little more after watching this video. Thanks so much for all your effort and attention to detail!
Great video. I’m currently trying to put a paper chart on to the app, so this will be helpful. My chart is on two pieces of A3 paper. Do I put both pages together and take a photo of the whole pattern at once? Or do I photo each page and make it a two page pattern. TIA
Most of our users get good results by scanning in their patterns. If you are taking a photo, make sure to use a good quality camera. It would be better to take smaller separate images of your chart and combine those images (along with a Key page and an picture of the chart as the first page) into a single PDF using a free online tool like www.sejda.com/pdf-editor. I would probably aim for A4 size. I would also load your chart in Extra mode for more detail. It might also be worth joining our Facebook group 'Markup R-XP Users' for more helpful hints and tips. Thanks, James
@@markuprxpHi James. Thanks for the fast reply. I have already joined the Facebook group. Tonight I posted on it asking this question (before I saw this video) 🙂 I will look into it tomorrow, as it’s bedtime over here 🙂
I have loved using Markup RXP particularly with PDF charts because of the ease of setting them up, however some of my favorite designers only sell paper charts. Instead of photographing them, I use the scanning function on my computer and seldom need to do much more than manually enter the the symbols. I have tried selecting several files and "printing to PDF" but frequently the resulting file is in a relatively random order. I have found that if I import the scanned files into a word processing program first then I can control the appearance of the exported PDF. Thank you for demonstrating how to adjust the contrast function. That helps immensely!
I was in a shop this week and mentioned to the owner that I use Markup RXP for literally all my stitching. She said she didn't like this kind of software because it discouraged people from buying paper charts. I pointed out that I buy tons of paper charts (from her shop!) but that I convert them to PDF. It is the same as making a "working copy" of a pattern. I'm so happy to have this video to send her to show this process! Thanks for being so responsive to my request for a tutorial on "wonky" charts. I now understand that "Contrast" function much better!
In this case, you'll need to line up your grid boundary first and then adjust the contrast setting to try and let Markup R-XP automatically determine the layout of your chart. See this video for details ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qi-GMnLkO_M.html. Thanks, James
That was very helpful thank you. I have also been running into where there is more than one chart on a page and I have only been able to work with just one of the charts which makes it difficult. Is there a way of using more than one chart on a page or even duplicating a page to make it work? The chart I'm working with right now is a Hands on Design PDF file that I purchased from her website. It is called Live Life Simply.
I'm only a user - not an official answer here. I had the same issue with a chart from Modern Folk Embroidery. It has 10 pages, but three charts on each page. I used a PDF editor program to store each of the charts on a separate page, and created a new 30-page PDF file.
This does help a lot. Most of my issues come from charts that are created by scanning a paper chart and thus end up "wonky". Can you do a detailed tutorial on importing scanned charts?
Hi, new app user, I am trying to import my pattern to my app installed on bluestacks(I have app on my samsung s20) when watching this video, neither my app on my phone or my desktop show the import button option? I have Restore, Camera, Image & pdf only in the Add new project folder?
Yes, just click on the text area below the project you would like to delete and this should bring up the Project Summary form. You can delete your project from there. Thanks
Fantastic app, just bought and found your youtube videos which are a great source of information on how to use the app. love it and can't wait to load all my projects! Thank you and great job hope to see more new developments!
I am trying to add a Golden Kite pattern that is password protected, but I get an error message, I am assuming because it is password protected. Is there a way to still use your app with a password protected document?
If you join our Facebook group 'Markup R-XP Users' and search for Golden Kite you should find a few different options that might help resolve your issue. Thanks, James
In your example, are the two symbols you selected ones that were missed when others like them were setup, or are they just small numbers of symbols that weren't setup in the first place? For example, after the symbol "9" is assigned DMC 739, it shows 13 symbols like that on the page. Were they the only symbols like that on the page, or were they missing from the initial setup? Can I use this process to check for missing symbols on each page I initially setup?
Hi, this video was created before Erase Mode was added to Markup R-XP. I would now use Erase Mode to view what symbols are available and which ones have been setup - have a watch of this video for details (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rlsqYHIT_N8.html). To answer your question, the symbols were all automatically setup by Markup R-XP as this particular PDF file contained the necessary data to do so. Not all PDF files contain this information, and so Markup R-XP contains the tools required to setup your symbols manually. Thanks
Markup R-XP can work with almost any cross stitch chart as long as the underlying chart grid lines are straight and flat - as long as you can get an image of your chart with straight and flat lines into Markup R-XP then it should work. Thanks
I tested this myself, but I believe it will work on the Kindle Fire. The app will need side-loaded via the Google Store. There are a few posts about this in our Facebook user group 'Markup R-XP Users' that might be worth checking out. Thanks
You can upload photos, but for best results most users scan their paper charts. Also, if you have multiple images for a single pattern, you'll need to combine those images into a single PDF document to load into Markup R-XP. You can use most free online PDF editors to do this. Thanks
With the help of this video, I did successfully import a PDF of an older paper pattern and manually add all the symbols and colors. I’d like to reorder the Symbols page so it matches the order on the floss cards (with symbols printed on them). Is it possible to change the order on the Symbols page? It seems to be in the order I added the symbols.
Hi Julie, yes it is, on the Symbol LIst you cand drag and drop the symbols to re-order them. You can also click on the grid column title to sort by the column in ascending or descending order. Thanks
@@markuprxp Thanks so much for the quick response! I’ve now reordered my symbols. One thing though - all symbols are showing 7 of 8 chart pages are done with just page 1 remaining. I’ve run the symbol counts on page 1 a couple of times, and the columnwith stitches is correctly populated. Why won’t it show 8 of 8 chart pages?
@@julieknits pick on of the symbols showing 7 of 8 pages done, and on the Symbol Information Form it should also say which page is yet to be scanned. With that symbol still selected, navigate to the missing page and Markup R-XP should automatically search for that symbol on that page if it is still selected. Repeat this for the other symbols in the list. It might be worth joining our Facebook group 'Markup R-XP Users' where you'll pick up lots of helpful hints and tips on how Markup R-XP works. Hello i just joined the fb group and about to get the app. I do my cross stitch by computer and i was interested because some of the charts i have are black and white and i wanted to color them using this process. That way i can use the magic wand. So when i color the chart will i be able to save it so i can open it in my software to complete my project. i just want to change the symbols to color then digitize then. I stitch by machine. Thank you
How do you clic to highlight all of the symbols when you are going to the next pages? And why does my version not have preview? And how come I can’t add Sullivans? This is waaaaay too much work to get a chart on Mark Up xp.
It sounds like you a quite new to Markup R-XP. I would probably recommend starting with an easier chart to load and get familiar with the different features. It might also be worth joining our FB group Markup R-XP Users where you'll pick up lots of helpful hints and tips on how Markup R-XP works. There is also some written documentation in the Files section of that group. Thanks
Hi Jim, the app was originally designed to run on phone and tablet devices. Apple then stated that any mobile apps should be able to run on their macOS devices with the M* chip set. Markup R-XP will run, but there is currently an issue around zooming in on your pattern. We are looking into this and hoping to get a fix in place in a future release. Thanks
Hi Gloria, if you click on the text area under the pattern in the list it will bring up the Project Settings Form. You can delete your project from there. It might be worth joining our FB group 'Markup R-XP Users' where you'll pick up lots of helpful hints and tips. Thanks
Hey, so, I went to open the app on my iPad this evening and it just straight up crashed, every single time I tried again. It was fine before the update and I now can’t access my ongoing patterns, and of course, because I can’t get the app to open, I can’t back them up, either! Would love some help sorting this out!
Hi Emma, if you send an email to info@markuprxp.co.uk I'll talk to through a work around I've put in place to help export your patterns from your device. Thanks, James
Hi, I am new with this app and I have a question. I have uploaded about 20 across this chat so far had no problem. I am trying to upload a PDF and it starts doing it but then when it gets to the setting symbols, it won’t go any further there’s just a little that’s going around and around and around. So I uploaded another chart just to see if it was, the app or not it did load up correctly. I just don’t know why with this particular chart will do the first part of the uploading, but won’t finish it. The designer of the cross stitch pattern that I bought said that it is friendly to mockup XRP and otherapps, can you help me with this?
Hi Gayle, the update is on a gradual rollout and should reach all users within a week or so. Alternatively, I believe you can go direct to the store and download it now. Thanks
Once again, your genius with this program is evident. Whenever I go to a cross stitch gathering I demonstrate it and extol it's virtues! I use it everyday! Thank you, thank you, thank you! P.S.: Could you make it hold more than 100 projects???
As part of this new patch release we were forced to update to newer versions of some internal libraries so that the app remains compatibile with the Apple & Google stores. Although none of our testers reported this kind of problem, it is possible that these newer libraries consume more memory. If the memory limit on your device is reached then the platform will automatically close the app. It might be worth restarting your device and closing down all other apps.
Hi Judy, you should be able to access DropBox from the file selector - click on the Browse button to open more options to search from. f you’re using an iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to go to the iOS “Files” app and make sure the cloud services you want to use are turned on (click on the three dots in the upper right corner, select edit, and turn on the cloud services you use). Then go back to the Markup R-XP app and try to access Dropbox again. You might need to also turn it on in Markup R-XP by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner and selecting edit. It might be worth joining our FB group 'Markup R-XP Users' so you could ask other users how they do it. Thanks, James
