Hey! Great video - very insightful 👍 I have a question though; I have no intention of dyeing discs, but I am into making custom figures and such. Do you think this method would work on a plastic action figure, if say, I wanted to dye it grey? So far my methods for dying are limited to heated water with rit - but that only helps if I wanted to dye a figure black, or if I have a lighter color figure that I’m trying to turn blue or red or something. Haven’t achieved grey yet. I’m thinking this chemical method may work. Do ya think it’s possible?
Can anyone explain why the disc are faded after a couple hours under heat? Even staying overnight the colors don’t pop like this. Am I missing something?
one thing i want to tell others that are just starting to dye is that acetone is super flammable so if you are going to use a torch then make sure your dye is either closed or put away from the work area
I’m confused what you do with the UV worm dip do u use that in place of acetone and the dye mixture so powder with the uv worm dip or is it an additive to your dye mixture?
Question for you, when your warming up your bottle in the water do you have to heat it up every time your going to use the bottle? For example i die some discs then I am going to use those colors again in a couple months do I need to reheat them or are the good to go? You might have addressed it in the video and I missed it. Thanks for the video!
What did you spray at minute 13:18? I really appreciate you uploading this video. Your discs look great. But, in my opinion, you explain things like you are talking to people who know what you're talking about. I think you need to explain better the steps and what you are using.
$15.00 for smallest quantity of Pro Chem 1 color doesn't really make it feasible for a guy who just wants to do a disc here and there and not turn it into a business.
I hear ya. There is so much basic stuff to cover before getting into the dye process. This video is just meant to be a primer. I have some other videos that show step-by-step how to do glue beds and cell dyes. 🤙
Yeah it’s one of those things that dyers assume that people know already. I talked about it in my first dyeing video. Using the torch is one of the methods for popping the air bubbles, that are almost inevitable. I still use the torch but now tend to prefer dipping a toothpick in alcohol and popping them one by one. It takes more time but it’s too easy to scorch your dye with a torch which messes with the colors. 🤙
Have you tied clear discs? I have a couple of wipes translucent orange Roc3’s I was thinking of dying. Wondering if this technique would work. Love the videos, man keep them coming
