Thank you for sharing all the details about applying for the residency. I hope the Turkish economy will sort out soon, particularly for all the lovely people who live there and welcome cruisers. Finike is on our list to visit. Cheers.

(Baz) We are seeing some price rises due to inflation, so far it's mostly on imported goods. As you saw in the video the cost of a weekly food shop is quite low. That same food shop in Australia would have been around AU$120. Turkey is still very affordable. Cheers.

Behind on vids just catching up. You will be in for a shock. There is a 250 boat waiting list at Netsel. 700 boats from Croatia have arrived and most likely many other places including Greece. Here is the shocker. Netsel and other marinas here have doubled their prices. Plann accordingly for next contract.

An enjoyable video, and Finike looks lovely. The cost of the residence permit is actually calculated at the current equivalent of US $ 25 for the first month and US $ 5 for each month thereafter, plus the cost of the card which I seem to recall is about 300 TL now. As a British expat living in Istanbul I renewed my permit last August and the card arrived in the post just three days after the interview which was excellent service. Hopefully yours will arrive this week.

I know I'm going to seem patronizing. I promise I'm not. I want to bring attention to your manners. I didn't notice what you bought at the gift shop. But I heard you say good health to her hands. And you thanked Turkey for giving you the opportunity to buy quality food for astonishingly low prices. I hoped you tipped the driver well. I noticed that in spite of inflation most restaurants and services have not skimped on their high standards. That speaks volumes. Enjoy life. I may join you soon.
@SailingABSea

(Baz) The health to your hands is a common expression in Turkey. It can be applied to anyone who works with their hands, from chefs to mechanics. After a little bartering moment Aannsha came away with a nice bracelet made of dark blue spherical glass beads, and also a little necklace made from dark blue painted wooden beads. Cheers.

Great video guys. I was in Kas for 21 days, just came back 2 weeks ago, but I didn’t bother getting in touch as I figured you’d be elsewhere now. I did take a walk along the marina though, beautiful setup and scenery of the peninsula. Back in Sydney now but I wish I never left Turkey :/ have to make it permanent next time hehehe Take care…!

I didn’t get the chance to go there as Kas has always been the place I’ve been looking to move to so I wanted to try and get a good feel of the place. Now that I’ve seen how it works there, next time I will be able to plan properly and travel much easier. Next time I will give you a heads up before I leave for Turkey if you’re still around there and try and meet up for a chat ;) Take care of yourselves :)

Turkey is such an interesting country. Have a friend living and working in Istanbul from the Ukraine. The current president here in the US is wanting to get involved between Russia and the Ukraine many US politicians and make money of a war. Purchased a sailboat in the state of Maine and two destinations from here is the pacific or the Med. Would love to base out Turkey as you have but it most likely would not happen. It is difficult to travel as from information put out the only hated more than the US is North Korea by a world survey. Russia will get the Ukraine then beat the US into sand for getting involved. I am getting out. I am not sure which direction to go yet. Turkey appears to be safe with beautiful friendly people.

Happy to see you are doing well. You are a true ambassadeur for Turkey and the cruising life. One question: regarding the first application for residency, do you have to wait for 3 months or you can apply right away?

Interesting video - has it been a year since the last residency video? - That bazaar looked nice - with all the fresh fruits and veggies - since that was three months ago - and we've been communicating in real time - have you guys been enjoying your time in Finike? What's better Kas or Finike?
@SailingABSea

Yes mate, time flies. We are so glad we made the decision to move to Finike. Our home has been a constant 15C temperature even though it has been -1C some nights and that's all thanks to the free electricity at this marina. We were talking with our friend Kris who has a catamaran at Kas and he was complaining about how much he was paying to heat his boat. Next week with a forecast of 7 nights in the minus temps he's considering paying to stay at a hotel which would be cheaper than his marina electricity bill.

Hi, Just arrived in Cyprus on our continuing attempt to hunt you down and invite you out for a meal. Any advice about Kas would be great

Hi, we are currently wintering at Finike Setur marina, stop by if you can. There's plenty of room in the marina or excellent holding if you want to anchor. Kas town is beautiful, the marina is easy to maneuver in. Try to get onto B pontoon and try not to get on the end of any pontoon, they bounce around quite a lot when the big winds come in. The fish and chips at Oxygen bar and Alps Wine House are highly recommended. Ask to be introduced to Aydin (The engineer) in town. He's a magician who can fix anything. Cheers.

Have a question; If you get the residency for Turkey (or any other EU country), can you still sail your non-VAT-paid boat for 18 months? Because European citizens are only allowed 3 months.
@SailingABSea
@SailingABSea 2 года назад
Hi Rodrigo, A B Sea is VAT paid in Spain when we bought her. Turkey is not in the EU which is why we chose to stay here. In any EU country with either our UK or Australian passports we can only stay 90 days in 180 days.

Interesting and a great market with very good value for folks whose income is not TL. Things are really tough for Turkish citizens (especially those at the bottom) right now and no real signs of action to improve matters. There is very little about the serious economic position in Turkey being covered in U.K. mass media which is dominated by U.K. political shenanigans and the Ukraine/Putin situation. Are you firing on all cylinders yet? Best Regards 😀👍⛵️

@SailingABSea
@SailingABSea 2 года назад
Hi Jean-Luc, the answer is many layered. Turkey was never on our radar when we started out in Spain. Our friend Mike encouraged us to spend our first winter on board in Kas. We took his advice and instantly fell in love with the people and the country. The Turks are welcoming, generous, helpful and polite people. Turkey is much more affordable to live than any European country and we can stay here for as long as we want. We can only stay in an EU country for 90 days. The Schengen shuffle, as we call it, has been the reason why so many liveaboard boats have decided to come to Turkey. The economy of Turkey is hurting right now due to economic policy and we are seeing inflation of prices. But it is still very affordable for us and our Australian dollar. Cheers.

When we bought the boat in 2018 we had zero sailing experience so we thought that we'd gain some knowledge of sailing where help was never too far away if we got into trouble. Then we spent many months on the hard in Greece doing lot's of maintenance. Then covid came with all sorts of travel restrictions and border closures. We decided to winter again in Turkey and wait for borders to begin reopening, which we are now seeing signs of.
