Actor/singer/dancer by day, makeup enthusiast by, er, also day. During tumultuous mental health moments and growing pains in my career, makeup is helping me find another necessary outlet for creativity and healing me through self expression. It's an ongoing battle, but maybe I can help someone else cope with their struggles, big or small, by sharing my blunderings and discoveries, and most likely having some laughs at my expense.
I am obsessed with this look on you, I was with you (but from the future lol) the whole time.. the level of sculpting you do with your matte placement, both in general and with this look, is everything and more.. my jaw is always on the floor when you create your magic! 🖤💜 (stuff is sitting in my cart but good news now I need glitter gel lol)
Definitely here for this look, you really nailed it 😍😍 Have you tried the shimmers from the palette? I found that while the Melt mattes are usually consistently good, the shimmers are all over the place, which I find frustrating considering how uniquely earthy and olive their shades always are
I share with you the feeling of the palette being overwhelming, and for me the reason for that sort of impression is usually that the palette is poorly set up. While you don’t necessarily want to rank them in gradients to avoid restricting creativity, you do want to set up the shades to guide the user in creating a look using colour theory (for example, grouping shades of adjacent tones, or complementary shades, etc.). Usually the ideal outcome is that picking shades in a row, square, or diagonal would provide a workable colour palette. I feel like the palette doesn’t really give you any directions to go towards, the shades are meaninglessly scattered and i find it hard to come up with something that isn’t picking a gradient of shades of the same hue You worked it very well despite your struggles though! I love oil-slick-ness of the final look
LOVE THIS LOOK. I don't own any of the Cosmic Brushes palettes, but I've had my eye on Muse for quite some time. I would love to see you play with the greens in this palette!! Congrats on your role 🌹🖤 Love hearing you rant while getting ready!!
This look has me gooped, gagged, and gobsmacked. I am a lover of reds, and BAY-BEEE this is STUNNING. This vid was such a cool idea, and I would absolutely love to see a whole series of you going through the rainbow. I love when you take us with you to grab your products. A great personal touch. 🖤 I'm a big big fan of Juliette Has A Gun fragrances too, so it was really cool to see a mini review thrown in there! (My personal favorites are Lili Fantasy and Sunny Side Up) Sending love!!! ❤❤❤
I am BEYOND excited for you getting to play Adelaide. G&D is one of my favorite musicals and you’re gonna be a dream in it. also, love the editing on this with some of the voiceover on top of you silently doing makeup. practical choice AND an aesthetically pleasing one!
Thank you 🥹 I am very excited. I wish you could see it! It’s gonna be a great show. And thank you! I often am much more coherent when I’m not in the middle of application, so this editing convention really comes in handy! 😅
I know I'm VERY late to the game, but i thoroughly enjoy these shop my stash videos. Many of us are not content creators with access to tons of makeup. Seeing you use oldies, but damn good goodies, is so awesome and relevant to MANY of us. Plus your looks are always super inspiring. Maybe you could get votes on what to use next with a shop my stash (like brands), or have us vote your colors/finishes with products. Love the new set up!! Binging your last few videos now! 🖤 Thanks for all of the hard work you put into these wonderful videos.
I’m so glad the general consensus on shop my stash is extremely positive. It helps take the strain off my bank account for sure! That’s a great idea for a new spin on them as well, I’ll keep it in mind!
Congratulations on your Miss Adelaide role! I thought your ramble was very interesting, btw, its fun to hear you talk about theatre even though I don't know a ton about it. I am also interested to see you investigate further into this palette, I've had my eye on a couple things from Cosmic Brushes, but I wasn't sure if the color story was perfect for me and I also heard their shimmers were prone to creasing. I struggle with larger color stories too, but these kinds of videos are perfect for helping me see what the palette really is, so thanks for taking one (or several) for the team!
Thank you! I'm glad people found it interesting - it gives me a good gauge for future video content. I also was considering the Muse Palette once it launched, but I'm glad I held off making a second purchase for now. Shimmers creasing is a common occurrence for me with any formula, so I'm not the best test for that, but I found these ones creased the normal amount, haha.
My favorite series on beauty youtube ever 🥹🫶 i actually don’t mind larger palettes bc i love versatility but anywhere from 9-24 pans is the sweet spot. I’ve been on the fence about trying out cosmic brushes because something about the formula seems like it’d be somewhat like the Kaleidos eyeshadows (which I hated, unpopular opinion lmao). I never thought that i would say that shadows are TOO finely milled for me but something about formulas like that tend to dust away, crease, and disappear on me 😭 they blend beautifully but don’t have the greatest longevity so it’s a bummer :( Everyone and their mother seem obsessed with the Cosmic Brushes palettes and though the girlies are right about the hype A LOT of the time, they missed me on Kaleidos and im scared it’s gonna happen again 😂 thank you always for your honesty and slowing down and giving us thorough reviews and color story explorations! ❤
What?! Geez that is so nice of you to say, thank you! My knowledge of Kaleidos shades is limited only to the Angelica collab, but I also had a bit of trouble with those mattes, mostly with precision blending, so that tracks! I also find that I have to fight with really finely milled shades. I was very curious if this formula was worth the hype, and I guess we shall see! In my opinion Shroud and Unearthy still take the lead on Cosmic, but we shall see! Thank you for being such a huge fan of this series. <3
@@Madelaide 100%! I absolutely adore Unearthly’s new formula and Shroud’s mattes and shimmers! Shroud doesnt have the shiftiest most sparkly formula ever but there’s something about that classic, pressed shimmer that is so much more long wearing than the squishy shades we see most brands using. The squishy shades are awesome too, just dont wear as well on my hooded lids 😭 Shroud’s one of my favorites ever but the situation they’re in now is so disappointing 😭
Thank you, Blythe! I'm so glad these videos bring calm to your life. I can't say I feel similarly when in the midst of filming the dang things all the time, haha, but I'm glad that doesn't bleed through all of the time. <3
Love that you shared your setup and studio! Thanks for reminding us that doing something (like a look) for the umpteenth time can always be a banger and really just a confidence boost! ❤ Keep on doing you babe!
Ohh man, I know what you mean about palettes only being able to go dark to light and not both or vise versa. The Bella Beaute Bar formula is one where dark to light works out better. Blend Bunny can go both ways. It certainly, to me, isnt user friendly if it can only be used in one way of applications.
This is also how I feel! I know some people have the patience to be versatile with techniques, and good for them, truly, but I think the marker of a really good formula is ease of application for every technique.
If/when I can afford them! I have two palettes of hers and some blush, and would love to try more when I can. Any products specifically you’re interested in seeing?
A) this look is so pretty and it makes me wish I could wear blues, but I totally feel you on the "this turned out well, but the journey was a real bitch" vibes. And B) I'm really surprised to hear you say that people don't always see you as a candidate for traditionally feminine roles, because I feel like you have a very feminine look. I mean, your hair is androgynous, but like, I know casting people have heard of wigs. I don't know, gender is just a dumb social construct anyway and we should all be able to do whatever feels good and right. I also might not be the best judge of typical femininity, because I wear men's clothing all the time and I'm totally femme, imo. Aaaanywho, I'm glad you're in a role that makes you feel good. That's always nice when work brings you joy *and* money.
Hahah, I am sure it is a relatable journey to lots of folks. And thank you! I also feel like classifying traits and aesthetic choices as either "masculine" or "feminine" is becoming more and more antiquated the more we deconstruct and expand gender presentation altogether. I too think men's clothing can be femme, absolutely agree. <3 I do often get wigged for shows, which changes my look drastically. Actually, funny story - just today I had an interview for the show and the interviewer was wandering around, and she finally asked me if I knew where Madeleine was, lol. When I told her that was me she was actually stunned I was the same person as the one on the poster, because I didn't have the same hair...). I do find theatre creative teams on the whole have much more imagination than film/TV; for whatever reason transformation is just more prevalent in theatre than in film - at least at the level of film/TV roles I am often sent out for (think hacker/tech whiz/DJ vibes, lol).
First of all, ilysm. 🫢🫣 Secondly, congrats on getting cast in a hyper fem role! As someone who has identified as androgynous since around age 14 it brought me so much joy hearing you talk about gender & dysphoria & non traditional roles!! I've always been on the slightly more masc side of the spectrum & for many cis het folks they immediately associate that with "oh you must be a lesbian" as if gender has anything at all to do with s3xu4lity. 😮💨 It's really annoying. When I started my new job one of the guys was trying to gauge or figure me out & came out with the "soo.. Are you married....?" & I answered "kinda" to which they followed up with "..... To a man....?" I so badly wanted to say "trying to figure out if I'm gay huh?" but instead I said "yeah, at the moment" 💀 Anyways I'm rambling. I also wanted to say that I've recently seen quite a few people say that they don't particularly love the cosmic brushes palettes. Which is interesting because it seemed like they were so hyped for a while!?
<3 Thank you so much! And please, ramble away! I'm so glad this chat spoke to you. And I relate to your story massively - my sexual orientation often gets speculated on, even by people who know me pretty well. It really doesn't bother me, since I also see sexuality as a sliding scale for myself personally, even though I date mostly cishet men. But it is often assumed that I am a lesbian, purely based on my outward appearance. Interesting to hear that about CB palettes. I didn't know if my experience was unique, but sounds like it isn't. We shall see how the rest of it shakes out! I don't want to rag on them too hard since they are an indie brand who appears to work really hard to produce quality products.
@@Madelaide right! I guess I'm from a time (lol the old days of yore!) when being openly queer meant ridicule, potential danger & violence. In some ways it feels like a lot has changed & in others, not so much! I remember being bullied mercilessly in school because I shaved my head & dressed masculine. As for CB I totally hear you & it does seem like majority of folks love their palettes, so that's a plus!
@@blendofdays That is very valid. The ridicule towards anyone on the fringes of society was still prevalent when I went to school (ie. the days of yore, haha), but my style didn't shift to androgyny until I was out of school/college, and coming into that in a later stage of my life definitely changes how it affected me personally.
I don't do makeup, this is not even the neighborhood my wheelhouse is in. But I love watching these, and I love hearing your 'rambles,' especially the theater thoughts! I don't comment often either (normally too shy), but blue is one of my favorite colors and just. Holy hell, that look is stunning to me. Really a sort of, light reflecting off ocean waves sort of feel. I hope you ended up liking it more later, because at least to my very amateur eye, it's really dang impressive.
I love this - it's rare but so lovely when non-makeup lovers still enjoy my content! It's very validating, so thank you. And I did end up liking it more in hindsight - it photographed well too, which is a bonus. Some don't! Thank you, it means a lot that you're here and watching. <3
Hey! I have been waiting for other palettes to be restocked, have never tried CB. I am team light to dark too. I have 2 Beauty Bay palettes and with that formula I have to work from dark to light. Changing how I apply shadows is a bit annoying 😁 I am curious if all/most pressed pigments/mattes coming from the UK are all like this?? It's just best with a packing brush, more of placements & not so blending. Just saying....
It could be a regional thing! Interesting thought for sure. Although I’m not sure if all UK brands use the same labs. I’m going to try the reverse in the next video for this series and see how it works!
You’ve come to the right place! A lot of my content moving forward will be using the makeup I currently already have. Maybe throw a couple new things in here and there, but I want to showcase my collection better!
I recreated (sort of) your rainbow clouds look years ago but I wasn't particularly happy with it. I haven't properly played with makeup in forever, maybe this is the oomph I need!
Hey friend! Urgh you look so good in this look. I know you weren't as happy with it as you wanted to be but as you know, i love a good blue, and I thought this look really came together. You are right aboht that final shimmer, it didn't bring as much to the look as expected which is a shame because it's a gorgeous shade but that middle shimmer? That was stunning! I don't have much to catch up with you in this comment so I'll just say I'm so happy for you landing this role in Guys and Dolls and especially after hearing about how nice it felt for you to be cast in something super feminine! I'm proud of you! Also since you mentioned it, did you enjoy the most recent US Drag Race series? I love it, it's been my favourite since season 12 easily, and this blue look was giving me an homage to Sapphira Cristal the icon that she is! Thanks for another amazing video and I'll see you in the next one as always. Hugs and love from England friend! 💙💙💙💙
Thank you! Cool tones always make me think of you, haha. I think that one really good shimmer really tied everything together for me. And thank you, I am really thrilled to be in this role again. I played Adelaide many years ago in a community production and it really changed my life and how I see myself as a performer. It is a privilege to be with her again, especially in my home town. I really enjoyed S16! I thought the queens were all so stellar and it really pained me to see them go every week. I could've watched them all until the end! Also I definitely see Sapphira in this look now that you mention it! I was rooting for her by the end, such a QUEEN. Thank you as always for being here, and for being so lovely. Hugs and love! Also I hope the new job and band is going well! <3
9:05 I got the one/size matte primer for my t zone and then rare beauty mascara since it’s my fav right now. I wanted to get the 2 new Danessa Myricks eyeshadow palettes but they were sold out and since they are very popular I’m thinking they’ll still be around for black Friday. I’m trying to do a low buy this year and telling myself I can get stuff for Black Friday is helping trick myself into not panic buying whatever the newest trending makeup products are. Also once reviews come out and the hype dies down 80% of the stuff I thought I just HAD to have ended up not being that good/not interested in it anymore.
That’s the thing! Most of the time once the impulse passes I end up not wanting it anyway. That’s why I let products live in my loves list for awhile before making any purchases. I’ve always been curious about One Size though!
@@Madelaide i appreciate the full context and honesty! I do love Cosmic Beauty's palettes. They have glorious color stories but their formula could improve. They're fine. You can totally make it work and especially for the price point, its like yeah.. no regrets. I hate it when beauty RU-vidrs only praise and don't give us the real scoop on the product. It's a bit disingenuous. My latest gripe is Ensley Reign. It's SOOOOO stupid expensive ... and the formulation is mehhh... definitely not worth the money. It was the first time in a bit i truly felt bamboozled by the lackluster performance of a product
Hello :) I have the Delights Highlighter Palette from Cosmic Brushes. I have to say, I have better highlighters in my collection than this one. Thanks for your cool videos.
Idk why I'm even surprised when you asked for consent and I did give it.... but OMG! ❤ aww thank you! I guess I really should be posting my own looks on IG 😬 Watching this on my lunch break at work 😁 perfect break! I'm the weirdo laughing by herself (I use earbuds) in her room lol Also - I did pick up a little duo of Juliette has a gun fragrances from Sephora. Juliette being one of them and it does smell lovely. Getting used to it. My mom pegged it for a cologne when I asked her opinion lol wouldn't be the first time I buy cologne instead.
YES!! Absolutely post your looks! They’re fire. 🔥🔥🔥 A lot of Juliette fragrance can steer more cologne-like. This one in particular was quite feminine, but still has a bit of that cologne edge to it. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I wish i had that result from the milani lip oil i picked up. I got the pomegranate one and it has just been disappointing with very little scent. Maybe the strawberry would be better! Love the color theme of the video!
Yay you’re back!! Can’t wait to catch up on the content! Thanks for coming back and just being you! I don’t have much to say as to what content I want from you except that I’m excited for what you do post! I’m all for it, ALL OF IT! Thanks for being beautiful and so very open. You are amazing! ❤
Hi! I'm a new subscriber. First off, you're absolutely beautiful and the look you created is **stunning**. I enjoy your humor as well, and I look forward to more content!
Ohh Rocky!! ❤ Love the lips! And I'm super thrilled that you're a fragrance girl! I am just getting back into fragrances again, and I'm really enjoying the journey. You'll have to share your favs! I wear Kayali's Yum pistachio gelato to bed. I find it very calming.
Haha, yes!!! Glad someone appreciated the reference. 👄 I just love how fun it is to play with fragrance! So many different options. Ooh yum pistachio is so lovely! Very yummy, appropriately 😂
I’ve learned that most melt shadows perform the best when you use the darkest shade on your lid first. In my experience the darker colors don’t layer the best over any other shadows.
Absolutely - also Give Me Glow's formula is similar in this way! Try as I might, I can't bring myself to build my looks in the opposite way - despite it probably turning out better - out of sheer stubborness, lol.
@@Madelaide yea I said the same thing too but then I did haha. I started doing all my looks starting darker to light with all my eyeshadows from all different brands. It became my new normal. Except give me glow, no matter what idk why I can’t seem to get their mattes to work for me. I just use them for the shimmers at this point.
You are definitely persuading me to at least give it a try in a future video. Give me glow’s mattes are so finicky! But their colour stories always get me every time. 😅
I love that this video had me thinking about colour and undertones and how shades pull certain ways. I keep seeing tik toks about what "season" you are. Do you know for yourself? I can't figure it out for myself 😅
Ok, baby rant incoming - I think the whole "seasons" colour consultation trend is really dependant on who is giving the consultation and their subjective opinions about the client. I always wonder if you went to more than one consultant if they would give you the same results. I can see it being helpful for someone who is looking for style inspiration, or maybe just as a fun experiment, but I also feel like this trend is just another way to put people in boxes and staunch their creativity and individuality. Another example of these types of trends is the "dress for your body type" nonsense - hourglass, pear, apple, other fruits, etc. It's an interesting theory and a fun exercise, but if taken as gospel it's just another way to categorize and police us on what is right/wrong or societally acceptable for the type of body we inhabit. I personally think you should wear the colours that make you feel good, regardless of what "season" one individual claims you are. I am way too particular about the colours that bring me joy to wear to let someone else decide that for me, lol. Ok, getting off my soapbox now.
@Madelaide I more took it as just colours that complimented your skin and underskin tone. Like I know I like wearing deeper or jewel toned colours, and pastels tend to wash me out. It definitely is a preference thing I think for people more than what you should only wear. If someone hates purple but looks good in purple, I'm sure they still wouldn't wear it.
@LSwanson89 that makes sense, I hear you. To be honest I go through phases of which tones I prefer on myself, especially with makeup. I toggle back and forth between cool and warm colours in makeup looks, and I think both can work, depending on the outfit, the vibe of the event, etc. In short I don’t think I actually know what “season” I would fall into!
That lip! Excuse me?! I know the eyeshadow is pinker than you wanted, but it's also stunning. I feel like a lot of red eyeshadow pigments lean pinky red, even if they look warmer in the pan and even swatched out (and my skin tone is like Simpsons yellow).
Before i start my usual comment I just want to say I'm so hyped for the return of Palette Potential!! 🥳🥳🥳 Hey friend! I'm sorry you weren't too keen on where the look finished up in terms of the eyes, but you were right, you looked stunning and that lip was freaking incredible! Also, as if an entire palette turned up broken, that's awful especially given that as far as i know, eye shadow palettes are by no means particularly cheap, at all! Hopefully if you get another from that brand it might be more durable. I hope you're having a good week Maddie. I'm just enjoying my week off before I start my new job and let me tell you, the nerves and anxiety are in full swing almost to the point where i can't enjoy my free time! Also it's fucked up my sleep so got to fix that now as well! Thanks for another wonderful video and I'll see you in the next one! Hugs and love from England ❤️❤️❤️❤️
OMG yay! It seems one or two of you are excited for its return, so it makes me look forward to making it! Thank you! I was quite pleased with the overall look, but when the vision doesn't quite line up irl I sometimes get hard on myself. <3 Some helpful viewers did mention they reformulated it later to avoid these mishaps, so hopefully I can reach out to them to get all the shimmer shades replaced. I would love to play with this palette - the colour story is dreamy. My week's been pretty good - just came home from a hike with my dad and Daniel, and it was HARD. We are both bagged, but it was fun. I hope you can enjoy at least some of this week off! I totally understand, first day jitters and anxiety are no joke, but I'm sure once you're there and meeting everyone you'll feel loads better. Fingers crossed for you to get some much-deserved rest! Thank you for being here, and for the updates! Can't wait to hear about your first few days at the new job! Hugs and love, friend. <3
Oh, great question! A lot of the way I approach makeup in general (especially in full glam) does translate really well to stage - barring the days my base is less full coverage - but there's a certain freedom in being far enough away from the audience that they won't see the finer details, so I am able to be less particular/obsessive over the process. It short, I take less time and am less precious about stage makeup and tend to do it with the mirror farther away, haha.
