Hi, I'm Melanie, a twenty-something crafter from Toronto, Canada. I love sewing, making jewelry, baking, thrifting, and and anything creative or crafty. Thanks for stopping by, I'm so happy you're here.
Okay I just made this and I feel like the size 12 is smaller than the measurements listed, but I agree on lengthening the straps for the bust area the sit lower. I did just get some nicer fabric to hopefully make all needed adjustments on the 2nd round with this pattern!
This is on my cutting table and I admit I'm a bit nervous about so many steps. I appreciate you showing us the process Mel. Your blazer turned out to be gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing more of what you make. xx Karen
Lydia Naomi designed a KnowMe pattern (ME2049)that really hits the nail on the head for a draw cord gathered dress. I’d love to see your take on that pattern.
The Worker Trousers are a pattern that I've been stalking probably since it was released! 🙃 Hetti also has a wonderful newsletter that gives lots of inspo and shots of other makers using her patterns. They are very versatile. Thanks for this roundup!!
Mel, I'm not sure if it was this video or another recent one where you asked us to share other interesting online fabric stores. There is Former and Latter Fabrics in Edmonton Canada. They seem to get in high quality fabrics at a great price. They are also now selling LDH (Canadian owned) quality well priced scissors.
I really loved the blouses/tops that ranked lowest, even though I can understand your reasoning. I hope to see you make those again and be successful. They were really pretty!
I enjoy listening to other people's reviews of their sewing journeys. I realised a couple of things you said were also true about me like when you were talking about your fabric preferences and the importance of fit and so on. You inspired me to sew more challenging things, like for example there's this dress that I like and I have no idea yet how to sew it😅 There's nothing like wearing your own clothes. Sewing is so rewarding. I've been sewing for a year now and I'm proud to say my entire summer wardrobe is handmade and unique. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm so glad that you found it interesting and relatable! You should definitely go for that dress, and let me know how it goes! Goodluck with your sewing! 😊
Great review of your sewing journey. You have learned so much. I wouldn't call any of your projects fails. You learned what doesn't work and what to avoid in the future. You also learned what you like and don't like. This was a good assessment of your feelings about sewing.
I smiled when I saw green cotton satin with flowers because I just bought the same fabric, it's from designer called Nerida Hansen. I'm planning on making Rose Caffe Bustier dress with it :)...I enjoyed the haul...I'm gonna check out this fabric store 😅
Ooh that is so cool! You have great taste😆I think it will look lovely as a rose cafe bustier dress! Can't wait to see the finished result, will you post it to your channel? 😊
@@MadeByMelm you have great taste too! the fabric is so smooth right? I just received it yesterday😍 to be honest I would love to post it, let’s see how much free time I’m gonna get from my “little boss” 😅
You’ve got some gorgeous fabric to work with!! The dress pattern that you are thinking of making using the cotton fabric I would be cautious with. It looked like and you mentioned it might not have enough drape which is what my thot would be. Happy sewing!
Yes I feel very spoiled with all my recent purchased! Thanks for your opinion on the cotton fabric, I honestly agree with you and I need to find a different pattern for that fabric. Thanks for watching! 😊
Great fabrics Mel, I recently went to a semi new Fabricland on Orfus Rd near Yorkdale Mall. They had great fabrics on sale, but nothing like the ones you feature. I dont like downtown, but I will definitely have to make the trip there. I can't wait to see what you create with those incredible fabrics.
I've been to that location before! It is better for basics, the downtown location is definitely better for something special. Worth making the trip down if you can! Happy sewing! 😊
Thank you! Yes, the address is 15 Bloor Street West and I also linked it in the description! It is definitely worth the trip in my opinion. They are having a big sale for the month of April too! Happy sewing 😊
you're right, I wear my black wool crepe Tapioca Trousers all the times at work! Black pleated pants are just a must😌😌 Last week I flew to London to go to the Stitch Festival and I bought some summer fabric. Can't wait to make other linen pleated pants. 🤩
Ooh the stitch festival looked incredible! I saw bits and pieces of it on Instagram. I would love to go someday! Glad you are also on team pleated pants 😊
Great job, it turned out beautifully. I think in winter with a lovely pink turtleneck sweater underneath over jeans for a casual look or dress pants for work would look awesome. I agree with you on the satin/silk linings they make you feel sweaty when wearing a t-shirt or tank underneath. Thanks for the in-depth review.
Great question! It isn't always necessary to finish enclosed seams, but i do tend to finish all my seams so that they will last longer (especially if the fabric loves to fray!) Plus, I was just excited to use my new serger! 😊
