Ohh I was so happy when you mentioned video game development. I am a game developer myself and as soon started talking about the definition of multipotentialites I immediately thought - oh this sounds like people who would be ideal for working in indie game development, hehe :D Because there are so many different things you can do, designing, art, programming, music, marketing, writing... I love this video, really very inspiring!! The phrase "it feels like sifting through a hoarder's house" was very funny and true in equal parts jajajajajaj. I'm glad this channel is in your "passion projects", that's a very good thing. And it's great that you also show parts like this and the content is genuine/real! (Seeing yourself overwhelmed even though you do so many things, made me remember what Sylvia Plath wrote, which I feel is something that can happen to us often and that represents us perfectly at certain moments: “I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited”). Keep it up! :D
@lifeinmultiplicity
@lifeinmultiplicity 2 месяца назад
Aww thanks!! Love that you quoted Sylvia Plath! From the book The Bell Jar, there's a scene where the main character imagines herself sitting in a sitting surrounded by fruit, each representing a different path in life she could take, and her starving to death because she can't bear to choose just one. I read that before learning about multipotentialites and scanners and all and yeah, it felt so real and relatable!

¡¡Very good!! Honestly, I've never thought about this, even though I believe that precision when using words is the best we can do! Each word has its nuances and defining ourselves with one instead of another can be very important. My favorites, after watching the video, are: scanner, renaissance soul and multipassionate (I like this one very much because "passion" comes from the Latin "passio" if I'm not mistaken, which would be "suffer". And we really suffer a lot, so I think it fits sooo well with us jajajajajajajajajajj). Excellent job, Genie :D

Those are exactly the ones I like, too!! I first was introduced to this whole thing through the word scanner, and while it's definition really resonates with me, the word doesn't seem like the best fit, haha. This multipotentiality got me everywhere i wanted, but at a point, it seems like i have bumped into a quandary. One of my solutions is to actually have all kinds of disciplines that i enjoy studying focusing on one particular big problem. In that way i can be sure that i'm productively managing them. The only person that can control me is me. Being a renaissance man is a gift, but at the same time it seems like entering a laboratory with highly precisely engineered instruments and having no clue of what you can do with them. If i were to choose videos that could demonstrate my lifestyle, your vlogs would do the justice.

Many people with this personality type say the same thing: feels like a gift, but a curse at the same time. I think society does so much to convince us that we don't fit in, too, so we lose confidence in ourselves!

When I was doing my masters I had a terrible time trying to figure out my research topic, simply because I wanted to focus on too many things :( What is your current idea??
@raz0rcarich99
@raz0rcarich99 4 месяца назад
@@lifeinmultiplicity Hehe I see. My current idea is to compare meditators who are motivated by religious/spiritual motivations ("spiritual enlightenment") with meditators who are motivated by stress reduction to see if they experience different effects from meditation and whether these differences can be measured in the brain (e.g. Default Mode Network activation). I study behavioral neuroscience if that wasn't clear hehe. So far, it seems a bit optimistic for a master's thesis according to one of my potential advisors. However, the same advisor actually has a pilot study exploring the relationship between music and mindfulness (I'm hesitant to reveal too much about it hehe), and he is offering me the opportunity to perform the full-blown study on that. And I'm very happy about that, because that research question overlaps so much with my personal experiences, as well as other ideas I've thought about as research questions. But I'll have to wait and see when we discuss it a little further. What was your thesis about? :D
@lifeinmultiplicity
@lifeinmultiplicity 3 месяца назад
@@raz0rcarich99 That's very cool!! I love any kind of behavioral studies that include real brain activity, we need this kind of research! I can definitely see your multipassionate nature haha both subjects hold so much meaning to you, it must be tough choosing one to put more energy into. Can you do both?? I was interested in the gamification of education since it's something ESL teachers are almost forced to do, haha, and I neded up narrowing it down to motivation responses in the gamification of classroom management, trying to figuring out whether or not motivation in learning decreases over time due to the novelty effect of gamification wearing off. I'm honestly a huge lover of games so for me, gamification and learning go hand in hand, but I think it definitely needs more attention and research to see if it's beneficial in the long run for our kiddos.

I agree. This happened to me when I i was in highschool. The previous years, i didn't find it difficult until my second last year. Once It was my second last year, I went all in studying and going through my strict timetable. However, after a few months, I began breaking down because it was too overwhelming to cope with. Balancing your studying with business and hobbies. Because of that, I started distancing myself from my friends and stopped hanging out which made things worse. That's why I believe that you should rank how PASSIONATE you are about something, since I later realized only in my last year of highschool that half the extra curriculars didn't matter and was only there for show.
@lifeinmultiplicity

Ohh yeah! That's important, too! Maybe having alittle "passionate scale" we can use for our pursuits, to keep track of how much we're getting out of them and whether or not we need ot keep pushing through or take a step back.

F O R E S H A D O W I N G Anyway, the stepping back from everything is a good move. I actually kinda jumped when you mentioned going through all your ideas and so on is like going through a hoarder house. I have been cleaning out two hoarder houses since last year, and it's very easy to get very, VERY frustrated when trying to organize things. Best solution? Step away for a bit, and your brain will come up with a new strategy on its own, and it works out fine. Like the silt being stirred up in a pond, stop stirring and it quickly becomes clear again. I had a similar thing happen to me a few months ago: I was thinking about many, too many, things I want to pursue or need to do (well, still ruminate on them a bit, unfortunately) and it was too much to process. My mind/body decided that was enough and I just stopped. Stopped worrying, stopped thinking (within reason), stopped reading as much, just basically went on an information fast. It didn't take long, and either new or buried ideas gently floated to the surface, just like that. It's like cutting through the static, to use another metaphor. Thank you for the video.
