If I understand your video correctly, it should be possible to toss the digital board and use the red/black/yellow wires to supply power and RX on an SDR with the microwave signals converted down to around 1GHz? I have been wanting to play around with microwave but without the expense of microwave equipment. :^) I tried to build a horn antenna, but a lot of things went wrong since it is difficult to buy quality materials locally. Thank you.
What antennas and what frequency did you use? These have literally no frontend with filters and the spring antenna is very poor. And that is before getting ot the fact that these have less than 10mW (+10dBm) of output power.
I Have Teared Down SOO Many Walkie Talkies In My Time That Its Not Even Funny, Sadly I Did Not Videotape It. :) Most Of Them Are PMR These Days, But years Ago, They Where Crazy Frequencies, EVEN 7.150MHz, Some Of Them Are Just 27mhz and 40mhz, still have them around somewhere :D
7.150MHz I'm yet to do and I'd love to do some 2.5MHz FM one's from russian railway/metro. And I liked looking inside radios, so I figured others might as well.
cant believe this thing isnt from 20 years ago…and it still has more character and taste than abt every other laptop released nowadays. love it when japanese tech companies occasionally just straight up refuse to catch up to the shitass minimalism trend and go backwards into 00s to do their own thing
I’m a new Ham at the Technician level. Looking at getting this for my car. How do I charge it while I’m using it? Also, what antenna do I use? And is there any better Ham radio that you’d recommend for an absolute beginner (as in licensed for literally less than 10 days)? I’ve subscribed to your channel. Keep it up and 73!
There is no battery. I use a cigarette lighter plug adapter with the Icom IC-2725e (I got it cheaply at a hamfest) I have in the car currently. You should be able to find one at a local autoparts store, if you cannot find some compatible ready made cable. As the cable in the box does not have any connectors on the car/power supply side of it. As for is this one good for a beginner? It might be okay. I would not start with a 400-700eur rig from the Big3 and surplus commercial radios assume you know a lot. And sourcing a 386 PC to program that Motorola Spectra is no fun. The radio does have loud audio and is sensitive, when there are no other strong signals on the band. With radios money does correlate a bit with what you get. The next step up from this rig might be Wouxun, Zastone, Tyt or Anytone mobile radios. It all depends on what's most active at your location. As an antenna I'm using a surplus Cojot dualbander in a M6 thread on a magmount. But finding 1eur deals at hamfests is hard to replicate. Genuine (not Amazon, Aliexpress or ebay) Diamond, Nagoya and Sirio antennas are all performant and good. Check your local retailers for a compatible magnet or trunk lip base. Like Hamradio outlet, Gigaparts or DX Engineering to name a random 3.
Well.... The meter is lying as much as it is "bending the truth." Your full-scale power is going to be on a harmonic of 50 mhz. My guess is either 150 mhz or 450 mhz, since the output filters are optimized for that frequency range.
