i know i'm 6 years late, but i've actually watched some of your videos back then, i know this sounds too much to ask, but i would want to see you post more videos again, i've been trying to find your videos for years now and only now did i remember this anime which you made a video about, your videos were VERY high quality, writing the scripts and reviews for animes and other more, like seriously good considering the fact that watching your old videos could mistakenly think that it's another new youtuber making video summarizations of animes, but it's 6 yrs old, if you wont tho it's still okay, i just hope you're happy with the decision you've made with putting a halt to your videos or taking a rest, but nonetheless, i'd love to see your comeback.
Thank you, sincerely. I don't make videos anymore, but hearing this genuinely makes me feel like my time on RU-vid was a positive one; where I achieved my goal of creating something worth watching.
I think the need to repeat the call to the "hero" three times, which happens more than once in the series... This is no coincidence but a reference to Hermes Trismegistus, the "thrice great", whose writings greatly influenced the more recent Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam). The hero is very similar to the Greek God Hermes, from which the Trismegistus (fusion of Hermes and Thoth) starts. Hermes connects the human with the divine, just as Peco acts as a link between the mundane and the divine (talent?). In case there are doubts, Thoth is, coincidentally, the Egyptian God of the Moon. And of this last God I would add the fact that he has two forms, a more "human" one, of a baboon, and one coincidentally of an ibis, a bird; I could interpret this as the two versions of Peco throughout the series, or as Smile and Peco, since in his Baboon form, Thoth besides being more "human" represents balance, Smile always seems to abound in balance, even being in the shadows (while Thoth has the Baboon form when he resides in the underworld). Ibis's form obviously represents Peco. The scene of Peco's transformation (when he throws himself into the sea) is a typical scene in works with a philosophical content, both in an allegorical sense and in one related to alchemy. The water (as well as the fire, although this is not the case) cleanses or purifies the entity / being, in the case of Peco, it strips him of the residue of worldliness with which he carries, allowing his superior version (divine) arise. The match between Peco and Dragon is another example of a philosophical allegory: Dragon, ironically called Dragon (in alchemy a Dragon is, allegorically, a snake that has devoured another / Mercury), there are many possible interpretations for the character, but the one I think the most appropriate is the one that proposes the Dragon as an impediment, he is powerful, but has to be defeated in order to free himself from his confinement (we constantly see Dragon locking himself up), this is because Dragon is not the being itself but the container that contains it. Curiously, Hermes carried a staff containing two coiled serpents, devouring each other, the "Caduceus".
For everyone here are some answers you were looking for... 1. Remember the very first scene of Ausuna, she was on the cliff listening to the radio and heard a strange song, it was Shun's song befor his death. He somehow got to know that Asuna heard his song and came to find her. This created a unknown bond between them. 2. The main reason I think why Shun died is because he knew life was short. He was afraid to live the life he got and hence judging from the uncertainty of it he decided to go on the surface. And also because of no.1 point. 3. As of what I remembered from reading the manga, that Asuna's father was someone from Agartha and he was Shun's teacher. Hence Asuna belong half to the underworld and thats why she had the sprit to discover it. He also gave Asuna the crystal. 4. Mimi was a yodoriko, creatures who were ment to guide. She was there to help Asuna. Perhaps she was Asuna's father's pet. She was also requested by Shun before he died that he wants it to guide Asuna to a better place. 5. About Arcangles, they might be mithologists or reashers who wated to prove the existence of Agartha, after finding some evidence. But had done it secretly as the government may not allow.
My personal favorite anime is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. So influential, every part having a great narrative. My personal favorite parts as of now as I've yet to read JoJolion, are Steel Ball Run and Stone Ocean. My Favorite JoJo is Jolyne. Favorite JoBro is Gyro. Everything else is just as brilliant. There's a reason people always reference it, there's a reason memes are made from it. Everything is Wonderfully *bizarre*
I just don't understand why would Asuna's father have a stone of whatever it's called? It's either he himself was an Agarthan(which would mean he stole it from them) or he found it somewhere randomly(which doesn't make any sense, cause except for Agartha, there is no other way or place to find that stone. And if Asuna's father was indeed an Agarthan, Asuna would have been welcomed there, but she wasn't. And if her dad really stole the stone, they would have to realize at some point, like "hey she has a stolen stone, she must be his daughter" But no. They just wanted it back, and in the end they didn't get it. And also why would the "teacher" stay in Agartha? Why didn't he leave? And if Shin was bannished, he should have leave too, and go with them... They needed to explain it better, but no.. They made a beautiful movie, with a bad rushed ending...
We have pretty similar taste. My top 10 is 1. Mob psycho 100 2. FMAB 3. HxH 4. Ping pong 5. Welcome to the NHK 6. Aot 7. Parasyte 8. OG Dragon ball (for nostalgic reasons) 9. Psycho pass (season 1) 10. Steins;gate
This series was so unsettling and hard to watch. Just finished it! I thought it was masterfully done and I think def the tone is everything in this. I found the realistic art style very refreshing and haunting. I wish they continued it since the last ep says end of part 1 or something but since it's been so many years, I doubt they'd continue... thanks for the analysis! Not nearly enough youtube videos on this
So much respect for having NHK and Ping Pong, just finished both of them recently, they made me realize how I've mostly been watching the popular anime and not the actual good ones.
I think you summed up alot of what makes this anime so poignant and emotionally demanding. I think more could be said about Nakamura, i didnt necessarilly think she was monstrous or unreadable, i saw her as a tragic figure. I'm not disagreeing with your interpretation tho, i think she can be both. Also: facial expressions. I don't think it's possible to make such effective use of characters facial expression to imply emotions and intentions in any other medium than rotoscoping, those really intense, uncomfortably close shots and subtle cuts of realistic but not quite real face parts really make this anime something else, ive never seen anything like it. It's really good to see someone treating this anime seriously, i dunno why it hadnt got more attention. Your presentation style is clean and for such a short vid you did a stellar job investigating what makes this anime so interesting. nice one!
While I appreciate a good Kierkegaard reference, a psychological description wouldn't be amiss either. Anxiety is in the domain of affective psychology and psychology has some awesome insights about how our mind creates anxiety, how it affects us - this is important, because this helps creators understand how to evoke the feeling better, and also helps viewers to know how to face it.
I loved the visual style and animation and even the music of the movie. The two things I disliked were the plot holes which were left (like why did Mimi die, why did the teacher guy stay in Agartha at the end, why did the big brother die and many more) and the other thing was I didn't get too emotionally (yes I loved all the characters in the movie) connected to most of the characters unlike in most of Shinkai's movies. But overall it was a good movie with a clesr message it was try to show us (how everyone eventually dies one day and how we should move on to find happiness in our lives having that loss in our heart). It's one of those movies which deserves a remake to fix these major issues.
That was one of the best interpretation to the unique hooks of Aku no Hana. It's a shame that most of Oshimi's (the author of the manga) works are hiding behind stacks of mediocre, popular, manga, and anime. The story and the animation is one of a kind, it is piercing through your heart, almost as if we are the main characters, trying to find our true identity, aside from what society tells you need to be. So much depth was put into this work, and so little the number of people who heard and liked this series.
@@anjafrohlich1170 yep, I get what you're saying, the psychological mess isn't for anyone, that's why it it's a niche. But I still wish that more people will notice that amazing niche overall. 😊 I think that in general anime shouldn't be restricted to a certain narrative, for the sake of popularity.
nice list... my top 10: 1. Neon Genesis Evangelion 2. Serial Experiments lain 3. Mirai Nikki/FMA togheter 4. DBZ 5. One Piece 6. Gundam 7. Death Note 8. Xenosaga 9. Attack on Titan 10. .Hack +1. Advent Children
Its a shame you aren't making anymore videos now that that thought is out of the way i came here after reading the manga. i had started the anime a few years ago but was thrown off by the artstyle for the people as i was still fairly new to anime at the time. I am how every struggling with the feelings that the manga pushes onto you as i am not often affected by anxiety and find a level head in most situations so i was really struggling to understand what sequence of emotions lead the main characters down the path they went and even more so that of Sawa who seems to suffer from depresion... just my thoughts Thanks for the video
