What about the opposite problem, a truss rod is all loosened out but need to add more relief to a neck?

I have an allen key nut in the neck of my bass inside a tight hole, i can't tighten it at all and the neck is bowed quite badly. Might see if i can find some sort of spacer. thanks.

I just bought a mustang squier for 100 dollars and the truss rod doesn’t do anything. What do you do?

I used this system once, back when I was young and dumb. I tightened, then used spacers, then got a longer Alan wrench for leverage and cranked it some more. Then there was a loud POP! and I was holding the end of a broken truss rod in my hand. That 12 string had a short but informative life.

Question: I have an 1986 Yamaha LL5 that I had refretted but when I got the guitar back I noticed immediately that the truss rod nut was “way loose” like it could pop off. I knew that the rod wasn’t all the way loosened when I gave my guitar to the luthier. Now I don’t know what to do. Any advice or suggestions, please? Thanks for making your video.

It really helps if you bend the neck and then tighten. then it's less strain on the truss rod

How can I achieve this in the opposite direction? The neck is back bow’d and needs relief but the truss rod doesn’t seem to have any action in the opposite direction (clockwise if looking at it from the bridge perspective). It was cranked to the left, back bowing it, and when I went to try and add relief, the nut loosened and then seemed to get looser and looser as if it was gonna fall off and wasn’t actually turning the rod. (The nut/threads aren’t maxed out either) it’s a Japanese 1987 ESP mirage

I used a heating pad on the neck to get it good and warm and clamped the neck into an upbow and left it for a couple of days, it gave me a bit extra upbow and I was able to get the truss rod under tension again and adjust it properly.

I have tightened my truss rod and the inner metal piece applied pressure on the fretboard and made crack and unglue. I don't understand what's wrong exactly because my neck wasn't really front-bowed, except under the first fret where it cracked.

If you can't find a nut that fits - just use some washers...
@umami0247
@umami0247 2 года назад
That was helpful simple and not doing any damage. Possibility go with a stainless steel washer that is fairly thick for individuals that don't have a router. However I'm going to say everyone should get as many tools as possible in their life just in case you never know when you may need it.

I have the opposite problem! On a Ibanez RS130 the bullet tip on my truss Rod tightens fine and the maple neck is really straight! With 11s it’s .20 at the 8 th fret and with 10s it’s about the same! When I loosen the truss Rod the bullet tip comes loose and feels like it might come off! I need more relief! Why couldn’t I just JB weld the bullet tip to the truss Rod ? So I can get more neck relief?

I have the opposite problem on an old Les Paul copy where there’s a ton of back bow and the truss rod has no further travel and is positively loose.

Awesome info. This worked perfect on my 1976 Yamaha FG295S. Good looking and sounding guitar that got left sitting a lot because the action was so high. I had even taken it to a local luthier that told me the truss rod is frozen, buy another guitar.. following your video I drilled out a nut and was able to adjust the neck to be playable again. Now I may buy and install a LRBaggs Lyric mic system. This guitar may start to be played in church in rotation with my Ovation. Thanks again.

The truss rod in my Squier Jazz must've been a fluke or it's a used instrument rather than brand new because the rod never worked to tighten the the neck at all. When I needed it most to get rid of some up bow the tightening did nothing and now the nut is stripped. It's a double action and I do not want to take the fretboard off to fix what never should have been broken.

I have an old aria acoustic guitar with a truss rod located in the headstock. When I remove the truss rod cover all I see is a regular nut that is at the bottom of the rod with some threads exposed. There is no eggcorn or bullet that is in front of nut like you have in the video or possible way to fit a socket in to tighten it since there is no clearance in front of the rod because the wood head stock is in front of it. It can probably be accessed with a open ended wrench. I need to straighten the neck. it has a bow in it and the strings are pretty high from the fret board. Any input?

Thank you! After a few guitar repairmen telling me that my truss road was at the end of it's thread so would require full replacement of rod in order to adjust the neck I'm baffled as to why they didn't know about this! Anyway, you do, and that's all that matters! Kia Ora from the Antipodes! (Aotearoa/New Zealand) :)

I own an E-series Squier Stratocaster.too. Its also has a white body that yellowed a bit. It is still all original, with heel truss rod, vintage style bridge, rosewood fingerboard, gotoh style tuners ("Fender Japan"), and 8-hole pickguard. Looks to be a copy of early 60s Strat. Excellent build quality, equal to my USA Strat. These guitars are a great value these days. People see Squier" and think of a bargain brand, but back in the 80s, Squier only meant made in Japan. By the late 1980s, Fender started putting the "Fender" brand name on their MIJ instruments.

If its a non bullet type like my 2007 Epiphone EJ200-CE/N what do you do? It is a MM Wrench style adjuster which is deep inside the cavity!?

Nice. You could also cut the capped end off the bullet (at the point where the threads end inside) and use a deep socket wrench for adjusting. That way the threads can come all the way through the bullet and keep going.
