Let's connect one of the simplest and most reliable diesel engines (Gardner) to an electro mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic controlled transmission. At least the passengers have heat when the bus stops moving...
Worked on venturas tigers as an apprentice in Melbourne Australia. They were leaf sprung when volvo b10ms and Scania l113s were airbags. The tl11 was a beast of a motor but agricultural. This video is well after Australia stopped getting them. Not many videos on them though?
I remember driving a. Royal tiger full executive .with A rear engine ,manual gearbox all cable linkage. Gears nightmare until Engine & gear box warmed up , the air accelerator took a lot of getting use to on long motorway journeys a great coach to drive.
London Transport liked theirs. Funny their Daimler Fleetlines which usually had them, mostly had Leyland 0680s fitted, yet their Leyland Titans and Olympians all had Gardners.
With regards to 'Non Starts' on Titan buses, we found a number of vehicles where the fuel delivery pipes had rubbed together, causing failure on the road. The armoured flexible pipes also gave trouble too. Some of the pipes were either collapsed inside, or rubbing on parts of the body. If you felt around the flexy pipes, you'd also gash your fingers if you were unlucky. So give me an RT or Routemaster bus anytime. Kind regards to all on here. Thanks for the interesting film.👍
6LX and 6LXB's .. takes me back to my apprentice mechanic days in the mid 60's .. Guy Invincibles and Big J's .. loved these engines and cared for them over many thousands of miles on day and night trunking work .. hardly ever needed a spanner on them .. satisfying to change oil and filter .. never broke down.
What an absolute faff to replace a window! In places like Glasgow where windows were bricked on a nightly basis in the 1980s and even to this day- this design would not work! 😂
The Volvo bus is similar to the Dennis version that was available as well. Stagecoach bus (owns Magicbus in Manchester), also had 3 axle Dennis buses before being sent to Kenya for several years. Those buses came back, and were used for a while until Stagecoach bought low floor versions due to DDA rules.

Lovely vehicle We had two tl11s in Colombo Sri Lanka operated by Ceylon Transport Board. Body built by Unicar Spain and with hydrocyclic gear box Both were scrapped. One is still lying in derelict state and there was a talk to say that it's going to preseved. Two registration numbers are 30-7501,30- 7502
I used to work on these at WMPT. DUDLEY GARAGE.. after MOT repairs. I would take them for The test. I loved driving the Lynx. 2 Had 90 MPH out of them..Cummins engine.. If you held the 1st gear button down and floored it let the button go these beast s would wheel spin...
These old tutorials are soooooooooo cool now 😎👍 No DPF filters, EGR valves, catalytic converters and engine management ECU's to complicate everything 😂 The good old reliable days 🇬🇧👍
You have not lived until you have thrown a Lynx down a country lane with "NOT IN SERVICE" dialled up on the knucle grater and just enjoyed driving. I preferrerd the Ambassador but you didn't get paid to drive one of those unfortunately.
Brilliant video. Very informative. Especially the brake band adjustment. I feel most bus companies don’t follow this procedure to the letter and their drivers are definitely not trained how to change gear properly. 😬

Brilliant Video In An Ideal World But Which Large Operator Of All These Variants Had The Time Or The Man Power To Keep A Vehicle Off The Road For That Length Of Time
In Plymouth we had a range of atlanteans. Nicer with every new model. But when the olympians came there was a massive improvement. Smooth, quiet, no rattles on rough roads and much more powerful on the steep hills Plymouth is renowned for.
