A further video showing this diesel generating set manufactured by Tilsley & Lovatt Limited of Stoke-on-Trent in December 1974.
This gen-set set was originally powered by a Gardner 6LX engine, which was subsequently removed and replaced with the existing Gardner 6LXB unit.
Manufactured in December 1980, this 180bhp Gardner 6LXB engine was supplied new to Bristol Commercial Vehicles in March 1981. The engine was originally fitted to a Bristol VRT service bus (chassis no: VRT/SL3/2948), which was new to Crosville Motor Services Ltd as YMB 507W. The bus entered service in May 1981 as fleet number DVG507.
This engine was fully re-manufactured by Midland Engine Remanufacturing Limited of Stoke-on-Trent in September 1994.
Gardner engines are beautifully engineered and built to last. Filmed in May 2023, this set is still working as a standby generator.
