Taking things over the top, again - a record player costing more than $100 is not there for the music but for the ego of the user - this is like buying a Rolex when you already have a digital watch giving you precise time - all the time - but people like to play around and temper their ego and impress others with what they can afford.
I totally agree that floating suspension turntables are superior to those that rely on plinth mass. The used Sota Sapphire I purchased recently is better than the Comet I used to own which was superior the Technics 1200 I owned before it. The Sapphire along with the Grado Opus 3 cartridge just sounds absolutely glorious on everything!!
It is possible that there is not enough dampening fluid in the lift. Before talking to your dealer about a replace. Try exercising by raising and lower 10 times (not using a record). If the problem persists, contact your dealer.
Hi, is there any way to slow down the speed of the lift of this tonearm? Mine is lowering too fast, and the cartridge hits the Lp too abruptly. Thanks!
Where is part 2?? Always wondered about SOTAs but the website seems to make it look too complicated, thus this video alleviates some of my fears....very well done....but would like to see the part 2.....
Sota is just wonderful. Mine is a Star Sapphire iii from 1992 with vacuum. It also has a mod of a Cosmos bearing. You are going to love it . They are incredibly reliable and make real music.
Hi. If you have not already bought an Atom, then you can by a Naim Star which includes a slot-loaded CD player. Otherwise, the Naim CD player is the CD5si.
Mick, you're such a classic...seen you in Murcia Spain last summer🎶 Simply Red music will live on way past our lives for future generations to enjoy...Just like Van Morrison- David Gilmour-Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler-Dire Straits - Moody Blues- Bread- Steely Dan - Al Stewart - Jim Morrison- The Doors- Eric Clapton - Cat Stevens- Elton John - Lionel Richie- Bee Gees- David Gray- Willie Nelson-..and So Many more...these are just some of my absolute favorites...I could go on and on...consider yourself lucky if you have grown up with this kind of music🎶🎸
HI just bought the KC Vibe to replace my Project DS2. My Project started losing channel separation on my Mofi Ultradeck. I noticed you had the DS2 in the background on this video. Have you ever heard of this issue, it would play but like the song Girl from Ipanema the woman’s was totally muffled and distant yet the sax and Joao’s voice was front and center. I bypassed the DS and went directly to my Receiver and it played perfect. If you have any input I’d appreciate it. Thank you
Had the KC Vibe two years ago. Loved it. Would still own mine but moved up to a MC cart and traded it in for an Aria MKIII. Most of my gear is Rega and as they say “Rega likes to play with Rega”! Once had a question so called Sutherland and Ron Sutherland himself answered and helped me out. Talk about customer service!!
Ive got a system consisting of used speakers that cost £75, a free 30 year old Harman Kardon amp, a £25 pre amp and a used technics turntable that cost me £150 to service, and in the space I have to use it, it sounds wonderful. Gives me about 200 grand spare to buy another house.
We all have different priorities and dreams in life and different budgets. That's the beauty of life and there's nothing wrong with any of them. I loved my first budget systems too, but there is no comparison in ANY shape or form to my current 100K stereo/cinema system. On a budget I listened to music, with hi end I experience music. It's like every time I play music I'm sitting in the front row at a concert. Stunning berillium resolution, instrument seperation, sense of space and low 19htz bass. Some of my cds I've known very well for over 30 years, but only now I can hear for the first time sound frequencies which were not possible to reproduce before.
@robotstonka7118 each to his own man, but would be a complete waste on my dodgy ears. Constant tinnitus in both sides and several frequencies missing. Enjoy your passion, if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters.
I had that same arm then upgraded to the TA 5000. Great sounding arm and well engineered apart from one thing. The counter weight has 3 grubscrews to nip up to keep in place once set. Only one needs nipping the 3 positions just help with access. The problem with this design is it is not good engineering as you have a grub screw bearing down on a thread which is ridiculous to any skilled engineers mind. I put broken matchstick down the hole to protect the threads, but then it wont tighten firm enough which isn't good. Over time you finish up with a damaged thread on the stub. On tonearms costing many thousands Acoustic Signature should do better than this as this is typical on all their arms so I would not buy another. Last year I upgraded again to the Origin Live Agile, which is a better design and engineering, apart from the rest clip which is plastic and breaks. I find this arm sonically is far superior but it is expensive. The A.S. Decks are excellent I have the Thunder but even on that one slight poor design on the Tonearm fixing collar but not a serious one I wont go in to, but really kit in this price bracket should be better refined. Excellent design engineers with great minds, but many of them have never done anything practical on the bench, and its the hands on craftsmen that see these flaws instantly.
For what that thing cost, it should come with a high-quality AM/FM/FM-HD receiver and separate physical controls for bass, midrange, treble, loudness, etc. What a joke.
Good evening. the maximum neo together with the TA 1000 arm from which platform in Europe do you think is better in the same price category? Give me three or four examples. Greetings from GREECE!
Construction majority made from extruded heat sink is dirt cheap as compared with Dan Agostino, Milled from solid blocks of aluminium and integrated seamlessly with copper heat sink.
Hi! Thanks for the video! There is so much contradiction regarding surge protection for amps/phono stages. Is it preferable to plug my kc vibe directly into the wall outlet? Thanks for your help!
Hi Erin. Power conditioning is indeed a controversial topic. At the store, we plug our phono stages into power conditioners. However for most amps over 150 watts Class AB or 50 watts Class A, we plug those beasts directly into the wall.
I listened to the Apex with a pair of 80,000 dollar Wilsons. Seriously folks, there is a significant law of diminishing return. Not remotely better than a system costing 1/10th the cost.
I hope we could have a Part 2 of this.. With under the hood close up shots of the built boards with the tube sockets mounted, or if it is point-to-point in certain parts…
That is a good question. If you use a tonearm from the same company as the turntable, you can ensure compatibility. Sonically, that is up to you in terms of pairing with a table. The same goes for the budget. Like all things audio the opinions on the price. Some will say the arm is the most important part of your setup (like arm manufacturers) while others will say to spend as little as possible. Personally, I spend anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of the cost of the table. From a technical standpoint, you have to consider factors like arm mount compatibility, length, and compatibility for the cartridge.
