The greens don't have any redeemable qualities so it portrays them pretty accurately. Is Rhaenyra perfect? Hardly. But Alicent and Otto are constantly grasping for the throne and commit treason to do so. It is literally all that matters to them. Cole is just scum. And Alicent raised two monsters who together are pretty much Joffrey Baratheon. She and Otto caused the strife between the branches of the family. Daemon (who could not have killed his wife in the book unless he sent an assassin) is a special and brutal case but the blacks are just people prior to the Dance getting serious. Honestly, Viserys should have done the realm a favor and put Otto and Alicent down like the rodents they are rather than marrying the queen rat. The show was even biased in favor of the greens by aging down Alicent to male it seem like she wasn't simply a grasping, vindictive witch who just wanted power.

I kind of disagree with this video. Whitewashing Rhaenyra is essential since all good stories should have a 'good side' vs 'evil side' so that we, as readers/viewers, can empathize with one side and feel satisfaction when good prevails over evil. I truly believe this is the reason why George can’t finish his books-he is such a nihilistic person, and all the characters in the books are morally grey. Characters like Tyrion, Dany, and Jon Snow became so popular only because they were whitewashed in the TV show. In the books, the further the story goes, the fewer characters we see that we can connect with and feel compassion for. At some point, it becomes evil characters vs. evil, and where is the morality in that? It’s a crossroads: either he makes a clear distinction between good and evil, or it becomes a pointless story. But how can he make good characters when he has such a nihilistic view of the world that it becomes impossible for him not to create another Ned Stark 2.0? Good, honest, and just characters will always lose to morally grey ones.

@lok5
@lok5 3 дня назад
@@fildanfernanda8729 Walter White is a completely different story. First, the whole TV show was about his downfall from a good to an evil character, how he became a hardboiled criminal, how he lied to everyone, and even at the end of the show, he redeemed himself. He told his wife the truth - that everything he did, he did because he loved it. Then he saved Jesse and died. Furthermore, we have good characters to root for, such as Jesse and Hank. Hank was good from the start to the end, and his death added to the drama. Jesse also redeemed himself; he wanted to quit, but Walter White manipulated him. Jesse's biggest crime was murdering the fellow who cooked drugs, but it was Walter who manipulated him again. Even then, Jesse cried and was forced to kill him. Now, compare this with Tyrion in the books. He committed the cold-blooded murder of Shae without any real reason. In the books, she didn’t try to kill him, and he knew she was a whore and didn’t love him. Plus, she begged him and said that Cersei Lannister had forced her to testify against him. So, I don’t think Breaking Bad is a good comparison. This example with Tyrion shows that he was whitewashed. All the beloved characters from the books were whitewashed, so it’s no surprise they’re doing the same with Rhaenyra, Alicent, and even Aegon, who was also whitewashed in season 2 compared to the first season.

Considering daemon's penchance to deflower young maidens. I imagine nettles may have played an uno reverse card and enchanted daemon. I don't think their relationship was carnel in nature. I think daemon having someone to care for made him realize the carnage his decisions have caused. As much as the show downplays this daemon was the epicenter for the dance of the dragons. Thats why he agrees with aemond when he says he has lived too long.
@Anantinfinit
@Anantinfinit 5 дней назад
Showrunners didn't want to depict Nettles because it would portray Daemon as a pedophile groomer, which he essentially is. This man was famous for engaging with very young virgin girls. I am confident that in the book, Rhaenyra had no issue with Daemon's extramarital affairs until Mysaria manipulated her perceptions regarding Nettles. Rhaenyra sought to eliminate Nettles because she did not want anyone to entertain the idea that even those with non-Valyrian blood could claim a dragon, which would undoubtedly jeopardize House Targaryen's rule in Westeros.

Pretty sure Nettles was Daemon's lover, the fact the show (the "so called true version of the story") goes out of its way to delete Nettles speaks volumes, the show wouldn't remove her if it weren't true. It fits Daemon's habits with young girls, and also the fact that Jesters are the only ones allowed to hide behind the "it's just a joke!" thing and exaggerate in their tales about kings or enemies of the king while also telling the truth, so yeah, I firmly believe Mushroom and the maester were right this time.

Modern feminist writers cannot write female characters because feminism has built in contradictions at its foundation. And before anyone says anything this is not a criticism of *women*. Women are people; feminism is a political ideology, and therefore fair game for criticism. Modern feminism holds two foundational precepts that are mutually exclusive. 1. Women are empowered and just as capable as any man, and 2. Women have been oppressed for hundreds, thousands, of years. That's a contradiction. Now you can write a character with contradictory motivations. Part of the drama in that case comes from them struggling with a dilemma. But you cannot write a narrative with such contradictions, because all it does is confuse the audience, and that's at best.

Are you forgetting that she is the only one who doesn't look Targeryan to tame a dragon, participated in the war and she was the reason Aemond refused to fight with Darmond(as she was with him) until she left and Daemond faced him alone, do you think none of these events would have changed? If she's not of Targeryan blood, she is a living proof that you need to be a Targeryan to tame a dragon as the Targeryan have claimed. Nettles popularly wouldn't be in this level if its simply bc she is black, maybe it may be part of the reason, but its not the only reason.

@@josephbulkin9222 belive me it is not :) I remember when fans of the book asoiaf where upset, when sansas best friend Jeyne Pooles storyline was replaced by sansa in the show. It just shows, that a lot of people get upse, when any interesting character has been cut out entirely... Now It's similar with Nettles and Rhaena.... Nettles is a very refreshing character, because she is presented as a mysterious child, who claims a dragon in a completely different way, then what we always see with the Targaryens. Not relying on blood, but more on patience and cleverness. I really love that idea, that possability makes not only her an interesting character, but als the dragons more interesting too. But hey I'll stop here, because obviously it triggers you, that a black character happens to have a very interesting storyline. Fans always wanted more book accurate adaptations...and that includes her character too.. I'm pretty sure people would have loved the storyline the same, if not maybe more, if she was white, because there would be less people like you hating on her, because shes black... ;)

@@Miis_98 the difference there is that Sansa has a story in A Song of Ice and Fire, completely separate from poor Jeyne Poole. I also think that Rhaena has her own role in the story, which is simply to NOT fight in the war. I would love to see her in Jeyne Arryn's court, or to see a budding romance with Corwyn Corbray. Nettles, on he other hand, could literally be replaced by a dragon riding sheep, and nothing would change.. The only think that matters about her is her effect on Daemon.

@@josephbulkin9222 I just think the way you said it in general, Nettles character has no importants at all, devalious GRRM character writing. Every character obviously has their role to play in Fire and Blood. That is how Books and Story Crafting works in general...So it makes no sense for you to even say she could be replaced, because she can't. It's every moment of Nettles life, that made her who she is. Brave and cunning enough, to even claim a wild dragon. So with Rhaena for example it immediately has no impact nor any importance at all to claim sheepstealer, because it's not an phenomenon for Rhaena to get a dragon. (So this version in the show is already less intriguing, then Nettles story!) And for your point saying, but anyone random could have been a Nettles character, sure, but then why not the Nettles that we already know and GRRM wrote. A mysterious poor random black girl?!... And that was not even the point of the conversation. You started your comment by saying her character has basically no relevance, people like her only for being black, which is not true. In the books she's very important regardless of being black, as long as she looked completely different from the Targaryens, her story would have still a big impact. And because she's important in the books, it makes sense that fans are mad for her being cut out and that has less to do with her being black, infact it's more because her story is tied to Daemons and Rhaenyras characters. She just happens to be black in the books, which is still cool and totally fine for fans to like, since she is the only official black character as far as I know. But in the end it just shows, how the show is trying to cut out good storylines, to make sure, that the blacks are seen as good as possible, rather showing their true ruthless sides, like GRRMs intentions was. And people where more mad about that fact....sooo still don't know what you're trying to achiev with your argument, because it still seems like you just hating on her, only based on the fact that she's black!!

This makes sooo much sense to me. Because I can’t stand Rhaenyra in the show (at least the older version) and I think it’s because she’s too one dimensional. She has no flaws and as such is dull and boring and ultimately so far has done nothing in the show. Actually a lot of the characters in season 2 have become dull and boring.
