Cardiacs release maybe best UK double album ever, play your local. Oasis release coked up overdubbed shite single album, play Wembley. England you don't GET it do ya?
Was privileged to see him in "The Zappa Band" last year playing at Whiskey a Go Go. Not well attended, so I had no trouble standing ten feet away and watching him play, alternating between guitar and keyboard with casual dexterity, sometimes playing both at once. I can't imagine having that kind of musical fluency. And he has said in an interview when when he first auditioned for Zappa, he had memorized all the music so he didn't read any of it, just pretended to, as he knew Zappa wanted musicians who could read.
What the hell did i just see?!?! Video was suggested to me by youtube. When i saw the thumbnail i thought "no way, he can't play inca roads all by himself using only voice and guitar!" And here i sit now, absolutely flabbergasted. Probably the closest thing to the definition of "unbelievable" i have ever experienced! Stunning performance!!!
INCREDIBLE!!! I have never seen him play outside of Frank's bands..he kills it!!! btw Tim Palmieri from LOTUS also does solo acoustic versions of ALL of Frank's great tunes!!! check him out you won't be disappointed!!!
This is one of my favorite FZ tunes and Mike did it justice, and then some. What really comes across is that he's just enjoying the hell out of it. I mean, why do anything if you can't enjoy it? A truly brave and masterful performance.
"You want to perform 'Inca Roads' on your own, on an acoustic guitar? Are you serious?" Apparently so,.. and well, ..wow. Frank would have loved it. I did. Magic.
I was a massive Cardiacs fan from 87 onwards, we supported them at this gig as it was a hometown gig for us, i never used to get nervous at gigs but i was shitting myself before this gig, i had no need to be nervous because they were all so lovely, i was so lucky to support Half Man Half Biscuit a few months later too, i used to DJ at the venue before and after the band too but couldn't get anywhere near the decks because of the gear and camera set up so i just got pissed instead on free beer , i was a lucky man 😎
Great setlist! I actually kinda prefer the live version of Insect Hoofs on Lassie they play. I think the rhythm on the chorus contrasts great with the rest of the song.
I missed this gig but saw them the next night at The Roadhouse in Manchester. Following a truly outstanding performance the band were kind and generous enough to sit with myself and a couple of friends, as we drank, smoked and talked all things music and all things thing for a couple of hours. Outstanding musicians, incredible band, some of the most decent homo sapiens I ever had the pleasure to meet. R.I.P. Tim, long live Cardiacs.
@@KieranFunzig I've seen a few mentions of it on the interweb, alas Google did not provide any clues as to where I may find it. Any pointers or clues would be much appreciated. P.S. Now that I think of it, there was a certain sound engineer at The Roadhouse in the mid-late 1990's who seemed to take soundboard recordings of many (possibly most) of the gigs there. I have to wonder if that was the source...
I don't know about a soundboard but the Roadhouse recording is very clear audience recording taped by Tarquin who also recorded Bolton. While that is good Roadhouse is much better. It is still on Dime but you will need to register. If it says that there are too many members then try again on the hour and at 10 minute intervals after that until you get a slot www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=685132&hit=1
@@KieranFunzig Thanks very much. I attended with a good friend (the person who first exposed me to Cardiacs, he was a hardcore fan since their first release) and he passed away a few years ago. I look forward to hearing that show again and taking a bittersweet walk down memory lane.
This man's gift is innate and uncanny while coupled with a strong work ethic. If you are familiar with this song then you know how absolutely mind blowing this is.!!
