The fantastic Mike Keneally, Bryan Beller, Rick Musallam, Joe Travers at The Night and Day Cafe, Manchester 22 March 2013.
A huge thank you to the above for coming to the UK and to the excellent Godsticks (not forgetting Rhiannon), the support band on the tour, for helping to make it possible. You have made me and a lot of other folks very happy!
A lot of people sadly missed the show due to the snow - not sure if this video is consolation or torture for them, but here it is anyway.

This is truly incredible playing. I greatly admire Mike Keneally who also stood by Scott Thunes when everyone else was acting foolish in '88.

'Cause of Breakfast....one of my most favorite musical experiences of all time was listening to this at the Baked "Pertater" in L.A. oh so very long ago, now, it seems. It was a friggin' sonic wave, and I'm still looking for my head...

I sought Keneally's music because I saw him play with Zappa in 1988. Mr. Keneally is a master technician which is not to be confused with a good songwriter or composer. I cannot relate to his compositions and they make no statement to me,they're incomplete. Zappa was a master composer and song writer and would use technicians such as Keneally to execute his music,under this circumstance,Keneally is brilliant. My motivation? The love of any and all music.

These are some if the most awe inspiring videos I've ever seen. Genius is an overused term but not in the case of Keneally. I'd give my right arm for copies if these videos on a disc. And as a guitar player I don't say that lightly.

If there were no Zappa there would be no Keneally. Thank you for your very busy,over worded explanation. It's very much like Keneally's music.

I'm a huge Zappa fan so I looked up Keneally. Why is that hard to understand?

LMFAO, Keneally has more SOUL and technique than Zappa ever was capable of.If you really find Zappa's juvenile snarky output(we won't even get into his farcical late life wanna be composer period) superior to Keneally than I cant honestly help you.Zappa is like delving through layers of byzantine in gags and jock humour to find the good nuggets,which ironically were done by everyone in the band BUT him for the most part.Keneally is the real deal,up front,passionate and honest

I didn't realize I could create such a stir. I agree with your reply. Don't get me wrong MK is a brilliant technician and a sincere man. I do not like his compositions they lack the intangible X factor that all good composers and song writers have. The style of music is inconsequential.

Um, well, considering that "this music" has already been out for well over ten years, it looks like you're mistaken. And, considering that he's getting more exposure touring with Satriani and collaborating with Andy Partridge, who, by the way, disagrees with your assessment of his songwriting capabilities, methinks his music will be known long after both of us are long forgotten. But to each his own...

Just like Britney Spears this music too will be long forgotten in ten years. Zappa's music is still sought out and purchased without the aid of big industry. Orchestral Duke Of Prunes,The Black Page,Enchidna's Arf and Filthy Habits, are all works by Frank that are a beautiful blend of composition and technical prowess, and the list goes on. The only thing I hear here is a bunch of technical jibber jab.

Yes I'm sure,Keneally is a powerful technician. Aberrated and dissonant doesn't matter, his compositions lack something. Prokofiev used dissonance all the time his compositions are very complicated,yet beautiful and complete. Keneally is a virtuoso not a composer.

The only reason there was any stir I think is the lack of "I" in some of your statements. You think he is one of the worst song writers. Other people including myself do not. And that's fine either way. Its art we aren't all going to hear it the same way. But we agree on FZ (RIP) and that's cool.

One of the best guitar players in the world,and yet one of the worst song writers. Under Zappa, Keneally was a whole different animal.

hIs style is very aberrated and dissonant but according to Steve Vai, he had the best musical ear next to Zappa in history of pop music!

Simple keyboard doodling, complex guitar doodling. It's still all doodling none the less. Yes Mike Keneally is a far superior musician to myself. Hip Hip Hooray!!! There is still nothing here to listen to.

"One of the worst song writers" what an odd thing to take the time to say here and the other places you have said similar. It's not like Keneally is on the radio/tv,if you want to listen to his music you have to activly seek it out. To do so repeatedly and then criticise it..? You are entitled to your opinion but I am curious, really, what's the motivation behind that comment?

This is silly. that list could go on and on till there are no more people left. Keneally> Zappa> Varèse> ect ect to man beating on rock with bone. Ain't nothing new under the sun. MK's music is not for you. Lots of people do not feel that way. And if FZ was still alive I think he would disagree with you as well.
