Something no one at the back of the line saw was the band arrived late in a white van at the back entrance of the store in the alley. The people in the very back of the line never saw them bc they were face forward in line. No one turned around. I was at the back door and the van pulled up everyone except Ozzy got out. I just remember yelling for security and their driver pushed them back into the van. Sharon was in the limo still driving in from the airport. It was so fast. No one saw them and Wayne County Sheriff's came and blocked the view of the door. They pulled their cars up next to a dumpster and no one saw the band enter from the back door off the alley. All of the officers were so star struck. They were so happy to be there working. They loved it.
I was the store manager. The line was cut off because the band had to leave. Ozzy had major back pain. About 50 people were given autographed photos of the band. One young man freaked out they took him to the hospital. His mother stopped him from being arrested. He had a medical condition. I felt so bad for him. Bob segers security, Wayne county sheriff's department and Taylor police all helped us out that day. It took 2 days to clean up the store windows and both parking lots. They sent us two trucks to sweep the lots and 3 window cleaning companies to get all the marker off everything. It was a long day. When they told me black Sabbath was going to sign at my store I was like ok, thinking Izzy wouldn't be there. Well we got late confirmation that he would be there and the rest is history. Thanks for the video, it brings back memories. I still remember meeting Sharon. I miss my record store days. No we didn't run out of CDs we had about 150 let over. People called for weeks offering everything see the band. I will never forget it

Teenage FBI @ 30:03 - you're welcome One of those songs where the live version, any live version, absolutely mops the floor with the album version, just kicks its little happy meal ass all up and down main street.
@simalakasatsimaganda That's awesome. I saw them in Asheville, NC last October and even from the back of the room in old tall guy mode, they matched the power, energy, and enthusiasm of when i saw them for a Space Gun tour stop at the same venue 5 years prior while at Bob palm slapping distance. Bob can project better than ever, is what I'm saying.
@@jicabo1 Awesome stuff. Per one of the Strut of Kings print interviews I read today, Bob is realistic about not touring so much after the next 1-2 rounds...(read: albums, hahah) so I feel fortunate to see these guys on the 27th in a peak form I didn't really expect. If Bob makes it, i presume there will be some tour dates in the future, but not as many mashed-together club dates, as the rumor is they will focus on recording forever;) Best wishes and good health for the Fading Captain... My old buddy from Pittsburgh texted me in a panic day-of, but it was too late for him;) ended up making a GBV pilgramage road trip with my dog, and completely worth it!! So now is the time to buy up those precious tix for another of the coming electrifying conclusions. Cheers!
Thanks for the fire on my ass to get to any gbv show I can. If only there was a way to inject Bob with whatever is prolonging Mick Jagger singing the same songs we've heard forever both ways... jk. I want Bob to have the happy, restful, and fulfilling life he's earned. He could hang it today and not be matched for centuries.
Are you saying this is the live debut of the song or just its debut at this venue? Because they played this in Asheville, NC last tour! Opened up with it as I recall.
Ahhhhhh.... Back in the time when the GREATEST GBV ERA of all-time had just begun...! This is ONLY my very own personal opinion and I'm sure there are those who would agree and of course the newbies whom are ignorant to anything from the late '80s and into the '90s of course! But for me this particular era started at the '97 Summer Stage in Central Park, Bob had just released Mag Earwig and hooked up with Mr. Gillard and actually used Doug's band, Cobra Verde to back him for that Summer Stage show and from that point on up to 2004, when they put out the last album of that great era called, Half Smiles Of The Decomposed...!!! And yes before anyone gets all pissy with me, I absolutely and completely believe and know that the current GBV lineup is probably the best lineup ever along with the professionalism of the band and each member's role.... Incredible Musicians, but for some reason it just doesn't have the same greatness of soul and just great riffs that Bob would come up with..... well if I had to compare the songwriting and the actual production and all around FEEL, I could only compare it to Circus Devils albums! And another HUGE issue with losing that FEEL that I've been harping on... 1 man - Todd Tobias, single-handedly Played, Engineered and Produced some of my greatest work that Bob has ever released and not just GBV, but most of Pollard's solo records, and a very good amount of anything from the Fading Captain Series...! There's a name for the newbies to research and study that only a real true GBV fan will get and understand.....! And remember, "This song does not rock!"
I love _all_ GBV albums, lineups, etc. I will say that if they had Tobin Sprout in the band today it would be absolute perfection. I'm also biased when it comes to Bobby Bare Jr. as I love his dad. And Doug Gillard is the _man._ I saw him live with Nada Surf before I considered myself a full-fledged GBV fan. But, I am still learning a lot and have quite a ways to go still. I'm a very late bloomer when it comes to GBV. But I'm enjoying the process of getting to know more and more about them every day. I'm also proud to say I discovered Alien Lanes on my own before I ever knew it was such a popular album. I love that, Bee Thousand (my friend made me a copy of that and Under the Bushes Under the Stars 20-something years ago), Propeller, Vampire on Titus, Tonics & Twisted Chasers, Space Gun, Let's Go Eat the Factory, Class Clown Spots a UFO, Motivational Jumpsuit, Please Be Honest (ALL Bob; every instrument which is awesome), and How Do You Spell Heaven. That is so far - SOOO many albums! Haha! But that's what I also love: A songwriter who works his butt off the way Bob does inspires a musician/songwriter like myself. I also love Bob's side projects and solo albums. Airport 5, Boston Spaceships, Teenage Guitar are probably my 3 faves in that department. I'll have to pay attention to what you're talking about with Todd Tobias. I JUST got "Crickets: The Best of the Fading Captain Series"!!! I'm still collecting _all_ of the albums by every band Bob's done but I just wanted to get that to start with. :) Anyway, I'm long-winded enough. Lol Cheers!
