The Tenchfishers have a heritage going back to 1954 and are in fact one of the oldest single species groups. Today the group still pursues specimen fish but the traditionalist and the pleasure angler, who have a sustained interest in tench fishing are just as welcome.

We are organised by region across the country, each region headed by an RO (Regional Organiser) so you will have a number of local tench anglers to meet immediately on joining us. We have a wealth of tench angling experience in the group that we are only too happy to share with our members.

The Tenchfishers are seeking new members nationally who are interested in furthering their knowledge of this sporting species. Members will receive a regular professionally produced bulletin, a chance to attend our "fish-ins", have access to our web forum, compete for trophies and much more.

For information about joining the group please go to www.tenchfishers.com

Good video guys ,until recently I have had a good season on maggot feeder and maggot hookbait .but suddenly I'm getting plagued by roach and perch ,would you suggest I use small boilies to fend off the nuisance fish !!!
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 4 дня назад
I have this problem on my club lake and yes, a change to boilies is my approach. I would be happy using 12-16mm boilies for tench. The carp guys catch them on 20mm boilies often when targeting carp so don’t feel like you have to stick with 8-10mm boilies.

I've been told ill never catch Tench using worms, I make a good kebab, but had 2 blanks recently on a lake where Tench are in good numbers. So good to hear that the reason I didn't catch was because they weren't there. Confidence restored🐟🪱🎣👍
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 5 дней назад
Our annual catch returns show that hundreds of tench are caught on worm kebab each year from all sorts of venues. Yes, Tench can be fussy at times and sometimes you do need to work through a number of different baits to try to find the thing they want on the day but the worm kebab is consistently up there at the top of the list when you look at our catch returns. If you aren't catching on the worm kebab it is highly likely that you just don't have them in front of you so move swims or cycle through a few different baits just to check that they aren't being fussy on the day.

Eg. 7.75 lbs is 0.75 x 16 = 12 ounces, so the weight is 7lb 12 oz.

It varies year to year but at the moment the weed is not bad and you wouldn’t have any problems finding fishable areas. Just remember that tench love the weed so find it and you will likely find tench nearby. Good luck!

I have found that there are many makes of float stop that slide very easily along the line therefore making a very safe top stop. This looks great and functional though I still think you can simplify the rig using rubber stops as long as you select them well ensuring you have easy slide stops. In fact I use the same rubber stops you have there, I get them from Ali express, on 8lb mainline they are perfect to get a hook up but also slide away safely if I get a break. I guess I'm asking .. are we over complicating this?

Paul, its possible to create a tapered bump in leadcore by threading in another folded over length of seperate lead core outer inside using a latched needle. If you fold it over by 1/3 (to a 2/3 tail) ratio and pull that inside the leader; the bump will be tapered. Now thread a hard bead on to rest on the 'bump' then the hooklength, then using the latch needle pierce a rubber bead sideways and thread that on to act as the top bead..... This creates a perfectly safe helicopter/chod rig every time. If you want the top bead to be more secure you can position another single thickness piece of seperate lead core just above the position where the top rubber bead will be (i use a sewing needle for this). I carry several of these leaders made up but without the beads (just the lumpy leadcore leader). The top rubber bead pulls off after a tiny bit of initial resistance, very very easily.
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 2 месяца назад
I use the ESP leadcore heli-rigs for my chods and when tested the top bead does release easily with a low amount of pressure. They are pretty good kits. However, yours is a really interesting idea that I shall play with. Thanks
@timothyridge6136
@timothyridge6136 2 месяца назад
Note.. to get the lower hard bead on (over the loop) you will need to use a doubled over length of mono. To get the splice/bump in, the lead in that area (only) needs removing. Its fairly easy using the hook on a latch needle, to hook it up and pull a couple of inches of lead out. The leadcore expands (and gets shorter) when you put the needle in to facilitate all these operations. Make the length of the area you push the needle in /remove the lead, just a bit longer than the doubled up splice. When the latch and the end of the splice emerges, unhook the splice and stretch the outer braid to cover the emerging splice. It sounds complicated but its really not.

You only need to walk into most tackle shops to see that 'carp tackle' is where the money is made. Having said that, recent research has suggested that tench are in fact the most 'popular' fish amongst anglers... Here in Essex, not exactly a 'hotbed' as far as tench fisheries is concerned, but some angling clubs hereabouts are beginning to 'see the light' and stock more waters with tench, rather than solely concentrating on the percieved need for yet more carp... I wonder, if perhaps some tackle manufacturers will begin to see the growing market, for more tackle designed wih tench in mind ie: rods, reels, landing nets, fish care & retention gear. I use rods for tench that are described as for 'light barbel' the rest is usually 'scaled down' carp gear... Peter's very nice and skillful 'conversion' of a carp retainer for tench fishing was probably beyond most of us, but wouldn't we love the chance to walk into a tackle shop and find something similar on the shelves?... We're spoiled for 'terminal tackle' these days, but some more quality tench hardware from an innovative tackle manufacturer would be wonderful...

Drennan & Shimano used to have dedicated Tench/Bream (ledger!) rods in their ranges until recently, the only one that comes to mind at the moment is Free Spirit (but as I'm in Ireland I don't have exposure to all the brands)
@andypandy9
@andypandy9 4 месяца назад
Yes, I have a pair of the original Drennan Specialist (11ft. 1 1/4 lb t.c.) rods, that I bought back in 1990 (I think!), they're lovely rods, but you're a bit 'under powered' in weedy, snaggy conditions using them... As you say, 'Free Spirit' do some lovely rods too. You can get beautifully built rods at 'Johnson Ross', 'The Tackle Box' and other good tackle shops, but it would be good to have other 'tench tackle' items freely available...
@markkelly9135
@markkelly9135 4 месяца назад
I had a 12ft Specialist myself many moons ago, lovely rod but as you say under-powered for weedy waters. My current favourites happen to be another set of Carp rods, Daiwa Amorphous 11'6" 1½lb but I feel guilty chucking feeders on such lovely rods, I usually only use them for close-in work.

Wow...i remember making the precise points made by this film some 15 years ago, on tench talk. I got laughed at when I suggested that the species was under threat and that late spawning contributed to poor fry survival. The vast majority of those with an opinion, preferred to side with individuals who had conflicting interests. I left the group shortly after because I felt that the group weren't fulfilling a role in conservation. Still its good to know that the membership is no longer too busy kissing the arse of an amateur fishery manager, to talk to the experts..

Not sure what you mean. The sleeve protects the line and the rig slides down to buffer above the feeder, meaning that tge fish being played is beneath tge main line and any bouncing feeder or lead.
