Hi there I was wondering about the x-frame? Because I plan to do the same to my two-door hardtop it sat under a tree and rotted out the top and beams sogo and convertible is a good idea for me but I'm not sure if it's safe to drive the car around without the x frame on the chassis please give me an idea I appreciate a reply God bless!
You do NOT need the "X" Frame at all. These cars were very strong and stiff with a fully boxed frame from the factory. My car is a California built car so it has the seamless frame. I drove it 1100 miles all the way from the Peoples Republic of Commiefornia to El Paso Texas as it is now and there was no door rattling or popping open But that being said I do intend to upgrade this frame. In fact I already have, still in the box from Art Morrison a chassis stiffening kit that I intend to weld on. But again you really don't need to do it, but I figured what the hell, I will make a video when I get around to installing it and post it on my channel. So be sure and subscribe and hit the notification box. And in the mean time I will make a video just for you showing the kit I bought. Also I will show you how the exhaust will be routed and to save you money you don't need to buy the complete kit, if you have a Iron supply company near you you can pick up the non-complicated pieces from them to save on shipping costs and from Morrison mark up. I bought the same van same year n the previous owner payed alot of money to have a hightop installed profesionally im lookin to trade someone the hightop for there metal roof they cut off so i can weld the roof back on.
I certainly do not blame you for wanting to do that. Check your local wrecking yards and ask them if you can use a Sawzall or better yet a cut off grinder. I cut body panels off all the time at my local "you pull it." But I'm sure you know that will be a monumental job. Might be better off reselling or even trading for he van you want. I would run a Craigslist ad offering the swap. Take photos of your van put them on there and see what happens. I bought 3 of my 5 vans through Craigslist wanted ads in the auto parts category. Hey restoring my 77 g10. Been checking out your vids. Lowering mine 4.5 in the front and 6 in the rear. Haven’t got it back yet but hope it all works out. My question is where did you get the new window door seals? My van could use em too!
I bought them on Ebay. But they do NOT make seals for the older vans I think 1980 down. So you need to buy them for 81 and up. Because the wing windows are slightly different on the newer vans. The channel the seals fit into Are a LOT skinnier on the older wing windows. So the newer seals do not fit unless you cut the wing window portion of the seal. Or replace the older wing window with a newer van wing window. The newer and improved wing windows bolt right on and are a direct replacement. You might have a lot of issues with a "4.5 inch drop" in the front. I had to replace my front wheels for 17 inch wheels so the rims would not hit the lower control arms. And I had to cut about 4 inches of drip rail out of my lower control arms.
Appreciate the info on the windows. I am hoping to avoid the rubbing by installing tubular lower control arms from western chassis. Also 15x7 wheels and 195 50 15 tires . Small I know…but with Chrome 100 spoke standard dish Daytons . Trying to get it as low as possible without cutting it all up. Classic California lowrider look. It’s a shorty with keystone wheels and had a slight rake. Every time we have the van out cruising… it sure turns heads and always getting comments. All original and shag carpet and velvet on complete interior.

What size Allan Key does the cross beam take by they way? I have this cross beam but I lost the damn key that came with it and now I think I might of really stripped it out and now I am stuck with the cross-beam stuck on it. So I was going to just buy another floor jack so so I have a regular one too but I would love to try and get the blot out.
If you work on cars regularly I would buy another floor jack I myself have 9 floor jacks and never intend to remove my cross beam from the one it is attached to.

Yea I mean I used a 10MM Hex but it would just not turn and it started to mess it up a little so I just stopped. I will buy a new one and just have both to go along with my 4 jack stands lol
If you're going to do this try it using only 1 bushing so you do not have to grind the hinge. Or grind off the "brim" of the "hat" bushings instead of the hinge.
Hey Rick. Loving the videos..! I also have a 1968 "Scooby" Chevy G10 van. I've shipped it over here to England and it's nice to have a rare good looking different van. My drivers side door upper hinge pin has snapped (looks like 2 places, as the hinge just separates when the door opens) Do you know who sells the pin? Also......I have the 230 or 250 cu 6 cylinder original engine and need a fuel pump. Where can I order that? Obviously from the States, but that's ok. Not a lot of info online for G10's..!! Snuck out of our houses - parents were clueless) and a creepy guy in a van similar to yours picked us up and tried to kidnap us... dunno what else... and we saw that the door handle inside was removed. Our hearts sank but when he stopped in a dark alley, my friend kicked the door open and we ran away. I don't know her any more but I always wanted to know how she was able to do that! Didn't ask her at the time, I was just happy to be alive. I bet it didn't latch because it wasn't pushed back, as you show. We quit hitchhiking after that! It was about 1972 and I still thank God we got out. 😅 🙏

Selling that T A was not one of them don't get me wrong I loved that car, but it didn't have T-Tops. If it did I would still have it. My regret comes from a day or two prior to selling it. I was driving it behind an 78 - 80 year old man in a 1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hard top (no post) turquoise with a white top 100% factory condition unmodified and a 9 and 3/4 from 1 - 10 in condition. It was basically in show room new condition. So I followed the man to his house and asked him if I could look at it. and he told me he had bought it brand new. I mean the chrome was like new there wasn't a scratch, dent or ding anywhere on this car. the only flaw I could see on it was on the drivers side of the bench seat. It had a 6 inch split at the seam. Then I looked at the fender and saw the words "Fuel Injection" 1957 was the first year GM came out with F I. I knew even at the time I was 19 or 20 that the F.I. alone was worth $5,000.00 So any way I asked the man if he wanted to sell it and for how much and he told me "My wife and doctor told me I should sell it because I don't see to good any more. and then he said I was told it was worth $5,000.00 then he said but I'll take 2. then the next day I sold my Trans Am for $3,500.00 and bought that stupid BMW! What would you say the length of it is at minimum extension? I have a 2012 Impala with rotted pinch welds for jack points (Minnesota vehicle). The pinch welds literally crumble when lifting. I'm thinking about buying this to give myself more surface area to disperse the load. The problem is I don't know what's safe to lift/jack from besides the designated lift points since this is a unibody with no obvious frame. Maybe I could take the pads off and lift with the center beam itself. Or just use a 2x4... FJB
At minimum extension you're looking at 28 inches. If you remove the 2 extensions/outriggers it is 21 inches. You might want to look into having some steal chassis extensions welded to the subframe to the rear chassis. Not sure if they make a universal kit that will work with your impala but it would be worth looking into. Sounds like the safest place to jack would be under the engine crossmember or under the lower control arms with the extensions and jack stands for added safety. Best of luck. And thanks for watching! It's not safe to believe you can work under vehicle ....you still need the safety of solid support stands ....never ever get under vehicle with the belief a hydraulic jack is safe.
I just went out to make sure, the wheels are 6 inches and the creeper hight is 10 inches. That is the only drawback so if you're working on a car you'll have to lift it higher than you would with a normal low profile creeper. I bought it with my trucks in mind. But it really is worth the money I have no regrets and I will use it on my low profile cars as well, and not sweat the few extra pumps of my floor jacks and I will use my truck jack stands. Or if I am lazy I will use my low profile creeper. But if you have a truck this is a must have.
Sorry I thought you were replying to my Icon Harborfreight creeper video. This Pittsburgh is junk. And after upgrading the casters you will have very near the money you would have in the Icon. So do yourself a favor and just buy the Icon instead. The casters I installed are the same size as the ones from the factory 3 inch and it sits 4 and 1/2 tall.

But I also think you'ed still be better off just buying the Icon as it is MUCH better, and should last you a life time. This Pittsburgh is the worst thing I have boughten at H.F. Knowing what I know now I never would have bought it, or spent another $35-$40 fixing it up, because that money would have and should have gone towards the Icon......

I had the exact same van with the same wheels! It was a 1978 G10 shorty with no windows, Cragar S/S wheels, and a 350 motor. Mine was Dark grey though. I ended up painting it to look like the A-Team van.

Hello, i have a 69 g10 and im curious if the later model 71 vandura back pop out windows will fit on it. Any chance you would know or be able to find out?
I just so happen to have 4 of the later vans I even did a pop out window conversion on my gold 1981 Chevy G20 Check my other videos to watch it. And I saved the fixed glass. I just checked it by placing it up against both my 2nd gen 1967 and and 1966 first gen and from top to bottom the fit looks just right. But from side to side it is 1 3/4th inches too long. And it is also slightly concave so even if you were to cut the glass and outer perimeter frame down to fit the newly cut glass it would NOT seal up on the right and left side. But, when there is the will there is a way. If you really wanted to fit your van with pop out windows. You can likely take the seals from the later 3rd gen vans along with the stainless and cut and fit it to your original flat glass. But you would have to cut both sides of the stainless to position the pop out lever in the center. And be sure to save some of the stainless to overlap and lock it in place. Or better yet use some double sided foam tape to keep the stainless fitted tot he glass. And then there is an indentation for the inside pop out pivot latch to fit into the door that you will also have to fabricate, or cut it from the pop out donor door and weld it in place. If you do this you will likely have the ONLY first generation van in existence with rear pop out windows and will be the envy of every first and 2nd gen vanner at the van show or run! Literally after I posted my comment, someone finally got back to me on the Facebook 1st and 2nd Gen forums with 3 sets of seconds gen pop outs. But if I can't find one more set to complete my 69 g10 long wheel base I might attempt to make some with the method you provided. Thanks for responding so fast!
I highly recommend using a cast iron that is preheated in the over at 450f, it'll give you an even fluffier pancake! Another trick that will also give good results is to let the batter sit for 30 minutes. This gives the flour time to hydrate and develop a stronger gluten network (called autolyse in the baking community) which in turn helps it rise more.

I was amazed when seeing an old timer fix his truck like this using a light pole across the street from his house and a come along. Just be sure not to stand too close! If the chain snaps, that ratchet will fly like a canon ball.
That can happen when using a come along with a cable but a chain is much safer especially when pulling something as light gauge steel as upper frame rails using a 3000 pound 1 and 1/2 ton commercial USA made puller like mine. I would NOT recommend using anything like it that was made in China or Taiwan that's for sure. But then again my puller was nearly $700.00 bucks. So for this job my puller was big time overkill. Your gold van looks like my 94 cuz I have the big van, with no windows except the Popout windows in the back but I don't have the sliding door I have the barn doors on the side. The motor is that a small block 350? If it is let me know the type of intake that you have and the carburetor size and the distributor cap, and the wires, I love the setup on your motor 9:27
My gold van is a 350 my white van is a 305 both have the same Edelbrock 1406 Carb, intake distributor and Accel Spark Plug Wire Set 4048 Super Stock 8.0mm Yellow for Chevy 350/400 SBC. But I had to jet down the carb on my 305 down to the 500 so if your engine is a 305 go with the 1403 or pick yourself up an Edelbrock carb tuning kit. It contains jets, metering rods and springs & instructions. Tune the carb to the motor. But a LOT of people run the 600 CFM Carb on 305 Chevys without any issues. I picked up mine used and it had a worn out throttle shaft so it was pulling unmetered air causing it to run rich "black exhaust smoke" I picked up a rebuild bushing kit just haven't installed it yet, but after jetting it down the black smoke went away. I might just have to jet it back up after the fix. As for the distributor I picked them both up new on ebay for only $50 each and they came with the cap coil and control module. It was a hell of a good deal, eBay item number:252772712164 and the intake manifold is just a 2701 Dual-plane Edelbrock Performer EPS intake manifold $195 free shipping at Summit racing .com
@@TomasMatos1 Congratulations on getting your Chevy Van. I had to sell my Cragars because they rubbed the drop spindle and lower control arms after lowering the front and they didn't fit on my gold van because of the spokes hitting the rear wheel drums even though the lug pattern was the same. So I went with Torque thrust 2's instead solving my wheel rubbing issue and I like the look better than the Cragars. I went with 20 X 10 in the back and 17 x 8 up front. I just wish they made ties that size with raised white lettering. I might try the tire paint. You can check out my other video comparing the Cragars to the TT 2's on my other video. I recommend people with wrecked cars like this just take it to the bodyshop and let them pull the frame. And then you can do the rest if you want to. Videos make things look easy and when you try and a chain breaks or snaps a rope and you get hurt, then you will be wishing you did. frame pull is not that expensive, its all the other stuff paint and parts that are..
