Does the exchange rate between dollars and yen factor into the $2500 limit for informal import? Is it based on what you paid in dollars on the day you paid, or is it based on the price paid in yen, converted at the exchange rate at the time of arrival?
In my experience customs based that rate from the invoice I received from carfromjapan. That invoice had the price in USD that I paid for the truck both before and after shipping. I would assume it would be a bigger issue if the prices listed on the site were in Yen. However, most of the sites that I’ve seen tend to receive payment and print invoices in USD. So yes for me it was the price in dollars that I paid on the day of purchase/invoice date
It's from the Japanese. It's terrible that you can't get it unless you follow America's 25-year rule! There was a deterioration accident due to rust. Although this rarely happens, there is an example where the loading platform was damaged by rust when attached to the loading platform with a rope due to overloading (separation of the frame and loading platform). ★The solution is to reinforce the joint between the frame and the loading platform. After removing the rust, use an L-shaped angle and reinforce with welding and it will be perfect. It can be used until the engine stops working and this type of engine is cheap and there are many in Japan (if you have a spare engine, it can be used for 100 years lol). The choice of 4WD is very wise.
It’s weird they aren’t built for hills considering Japan is insanely mountainous and the majority of its industrial areas are amongst mountains and hills. You’d think they would be purpose built for the environment they live in.
I also live in South Carolina and had a question on the SC DMV Translation document. Where did you find the translator? The JapanCarDirect sent me a translation that had a Certified Translation stamp on it. Do you know if that will suffice? Thx
lol that driveway is way better than mine. I tend to take my rather rugged driveway in a front wheel drive daily car at around 20mph. Of course, due to clearance, I wouldn't want to do the same speeds on unknown ground in it. That kei truck, not sure what sort of clearance it has.
Currently dealing with japan car direct. Bringing one to Canada. Great people to deal with. Only issue is I paid for the truck 3 months ago and it's still sitting in port racking up storage fees. Apparently spots on a boat to Canada are hard to find
My 2021 model is consuming 3.2 L/100 km which translates to 73.5 miles per US gallons. That's taken over several thousand kilometres in all types of terrain, speeds, weather and road conditions. That's 531 km (330 miles) per tank (including reserve) which is phenomenal consumption in anybody's language. I've been riding for 51 years and this is my sixth motorcycle in that time. I previously had a 2015 CB500X on which I rode 29,000 km. I liked it so much I updated to my current 2021 model (gorgeous red tank) on which I've ridden another 23,000 km. It's an absolutely awesome motorcycle - the most versatile, smooth and comfortable of all the motorcycles I've ever owned. 🦘
So your one of the k-trucks running around locally. I’ve been interested in getting one the main issue being I have to daily on our local highways. If your not able to get above 70 I find it’s dangerous when mixed with the local idiot.
I have been running them for 20 years and imported a lot of them. Their productivity and efficiency and reliability puts north American trucks to shame
I had a 4cyl Jeep TJ. Totally freeway legal. If you saw a hill, it could not hold 55mph. It could only do 70 going downhill with a tailwind. It had factory tires, nothing crazy just no power.
Correct. Thank you for this enlightening information. Still not sure why people are bothering to bring this up. We are all very well aware and choose to accept that potential. Same reason I accept to ride a motorcycle knowing it’s limited protection
Sheesh that blue kei truck was clean, do you remember any info about that truck? Im assuming all that after market stuff must have been hard to find if there is any
I know he had it up for sale recently, it was mainly just super clean stock parts with a nice blue wrap that he put on it. He 3d printed some things as well
