It's great that the Sambar has provisions for a 4X6 speaker on the left and right (1:46). My Hijet has the Japanese AM mono radio and the speaker isn't even connected so it's just a digital clock. For a future upgrade (this fall?) I'll be installing a double DIN ATOTO Android stereo with a backup camera, and four speakers up in the corner of the cab roof out of harm's way in my rough & tumble 4WD mini truck.

I’m just surprised that someone hasn’t set up a Amazon or eBay store just to sell imported parts for these Kei trucks and sell lists of locally sourced (like your radio) items and diagrams if one is not available.

Man I’m STRUGGLING with setting the speakers! Glad to learn I’m not the only one. Did you have to trim away the openings at all to fit the speaker? That seems to be my only option for the Walmart-special Sony speakers I purchased.

I didn’t end up trimming any of the opening to fit the speakers that I used thankfully. It was mainly just that the holes don’t line up correctly. I opted not to cut anything but honestly it would probably be worth it.

I trimmed the metal around the speakers on mine with tin snips.

You, by far, have the most helpful radio install guide for one of these Sambars. I do still have a question for you. I was surprised to see that you fit a unit with a CD player in it and still had room leftover. Do you have any measurements for how deep that space is? I'm looking at installing a Pioneer AVH-2550NEX since it's pretty affordable and has all the features I want, but I am concerned about the backspacing. I don't have my own truck in yet to take my own measurements...

I don’t have any specific measurements without taking mine back out (I can when I have time). But I would definitely imagine it can fit just fine. I’ve seen others put in double din setups like the pioneer, so I know it can be done. The area where the head unit goes in, more or less just opens into the void under the dash until it reaches an air duct. So length really isn’t too much of a concern as far as I figure. It would have to be extremely long to start having issues.

How easy is it to get insurance for KEI trucks and is it expensive?

Short story is that it takes a bit of work to get a decent rate. But wasn't the worst, I was originally with progressive but recently switched to Hagerty after transitioning it away from my main mode of transportation. So I technically have collectors insurance on it currently, since progressive was just too expensive.

I have a 1998 Subaru Sambar ks4 in ATX Austin Texas and I'm with Progressive for close to a year now and it added only $10 to my premium. Hargerty programs are more geared towards classic or vintage with very limited use like weekends and holidays. Daily drivers need more which is why it may cost a little more because you're more likely to encounter an accident vs a weekend driver... This is how an insurance company would see you. Please all Kei Truck drivers move safely on these roads. Blessings
