Florida State could join the expanded Big 10 sooner than later according to Florida State athletic director Michael Alford. While speaking recently to FSU Alumni and Boosters at an event in Chicago, Alford hinted he may be in the area a lot more beginning this summer. It should be noted that the Big 10 offices were just a few miles away in Rosemont, Illinois.
LAWSUIT CITY
Florida State and Clemson are embroiled in separate lawsuits attempting to extract themselves from the ACC so they can join more lucrative conferences like the Big 10 or SEC. Hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake and everything hinges on these court cases. Or a settlement could be in the works. Stay tuned!
BADGER QUARTERBACK BATTLE
Last week we updated everyone on the Wisconsin football quarterback situation. We have an update as a front runner seems to be emerging. Offensive coordinator Phil Longo says the situation will play itself out.
SIZE MATTERS
Size matters so we will compare spring football attendance between a handful of Big 10 schools. Who came out on top? Everything is competitive!
Finally, we have some great transfer portal news for the Michigan Wolverines basketball team. Dusty May and his team keep getting better and better. We will fill you in.

Afterall, they are the ones paying the conferences and decide which geographical markets fit their footprint. As other Nole fans have commented, we don't like the snobbish SEC in general, and hate ESPN and College Gameday. Lets clear up somethings: 1) FSU will announce that it will be officially leaving the ACC between June and August 2024. The legal stuff will be resolved at some point, but that is not what Alford is referring to. 2) The GOR is through 2027 with ESPN having the ability to unilaterally extend the contract till 2036. From I have heard, ESPN will not pull that leaver until its knows 100% the status of the conference and its membership. ESPN has until Feb of 2025 to make that decision. 3) Rumors have the SEC and BIG 10 working together to carve up the ACC (quietly deciding who gets what.)
@walterabbott5347
@walterabbott5347 17 дней назад
I'm thinking that if FSU and Clemson pull the trigger in June 2024 making it public that they are leaving the ACC after the 2024 season, ESPN will pull the trigger on the ACC cancelling, or renegotiating their media contract. ESPN is the one driving this bus and they probably already have a plan dividing up the ACC with FOX along lines of SEC, Big 10, and Big 12.

When agreeing to the ACC contract I’m sure FSU was all in due to the benefits of being a Power 5. Was there anything said or written about a undefeated Power 5 going undefeated not being bypassed by another Power 5 team that had a loss? These discussions will be interesting. Valid point, but it's because of the unhealthy trajectory of the sport. Sport is headed toward a league of 2 super conferences, B1G vs SEC (20+ teams in each). The last few years have been about stacking as may national programs as you can to increase TV value and to campaign for more automatic bids for the expanding CFP. None of the other conferences will matter and you'll have 9-3 or 8-4 teams making the CFP.

I already pegged FSU into the B1G schedule for 2024....THEY may go undefeated in the ACC AGAIN this year....but may face 1 to 2 LOSSES in the B1G....which STILL puts them in contention for The National Championship!! PS : Since there are 2 Bye Weeks in The B1G in 2024, FSU can fit in IMMEDIATELY in several different schedule set ups. There will be some teams though that will face 5 to even 6 "power"/"marquee" matchups. Everyone will have to play a minimum of FOUR "Marquee" matchups. Gong undefeated in The B1G even without adding FSU will be very difficult. Fos Sports said they wanted to turn The B1G into an "NFL-like" "conference" (LEAGUE)....I can see it happening and I think it may end up being a good thing.....restores "regionality" and preserves and/or renews old rivalries and/or creates new "rivalries". It will take more than 24 teams per LEAGUE to achieve this though...so...BYE BYE ACC....bye bye Big 12, At least as we know it now.

According to shady sources, expect to hear FSU, Clemson, and maybe others officially file to leave the ACC before June 30th, 2024. That's the deadline for ACC teams to file to leave, play the 2024 season as an ACC member, and then play the 2025 season in another conference, or independent, or whatever they decide. That's also the last day before SMU, Cal, and Stanford officially become ACC members. Theoretically, 8 members (magnificent 7 + 1) of the ACC could make a power move and vote to disband the ACC before July 1st. After July 1st, with SMU, Cal, and Stanford, that would require 10 votes from members. The magnificent 7 (FSU, Clemson, Miami, UNC, NCST, VT, VA) have been meeting since at least the summer of 2023 to discuss getting out of the ACC and the grant of rights.

For one, ESPN can decline their option on extending their ACC deal within the next year. It would limit their TV rights to 2027. However, the more pressing issue are the current lawsuits. ESPN is fighting tooth and nail to not let their shady business dealings in the ACC deal be open to discovery. The most likely outcome is that ESPN pushes the ACC to agree to a deal to allow FSU and Clemson to leave with their TV rights (unless they choose to join the SEC).

I believe the SEC will get first pick if the ACC schools break away. The reason being ESPN/SEC would be willing to pay higher shares. I think the B1G is locked in at at half shares max till the next deal in 2030, because that's what they gave the PNW schools last year. Outside of Notre Dame, who is only school listed in the media deals escalation clause, the school Presidents would be hard pressed to give out anything more than half shares and create unequal revenue amongst it's newest partners. Plus the Presidents are academic types who actually care about AAU, so the jury is still out if they would even consider a non AAU University. So if the Max payout is half shares till 2030 in the B1G, does ESPN/SEC offer a life raft to any ACC teams with a payout higher than half shares? I think they probably do, but i wouldn't expect full shares. Like the B1G/Fox, ESPN/SEC are in the midst of their media deal and ESPN might not be in the giving mood. ESPN just balked at paying up for a SEC 9th conference game and let's face it Disney isn't having a good couple years itself. At worst they would just match the B1G and offer half shares till the next media deal. I think the SEC would actually target UNC first, but if they are tied to State, does the SEC take them both at reduced shares or just pass, cause they only want UNC? They of course would offer FSU because they are a huge brand in a huge market, Clemson would be the 2nd team innthe same state, but Clemson is to much of a fit, it just makes sense. The 4th team i could see the SEC offering is UVA, this because it Extends the SEC footprint, instead of just protecting it, plus UVA gives them more academic points, whatever that's worth. If that happens i really don't see the B1G adding any of the leftovers, the big12 is happy for the scraps though. Until the day it comes for the big12 and it will.

@@troywest7045So you assume. And wrongly. First, USC is getting a full share. FSU would, too. Fox determines how much they are willing to pay for a school. After getting into the lucrative California market with the addition of USC/UCLA, they have their sights firmly set on the third largest state, Florida, which is also the home of hundreds of thousands of B1G alumni, family and friends. Also, only FSU and ND are Top 10 in viewership and not already in a P2, and FSU has better numbers than ND. Viewership is the new currency of college football and FSU is a money machine. An Ohio State - Florida State game would be the national game of the week. FSU earned the ACC $78-81m last year which would place it in the top half of the B1G in revenue generation. Only ND could match that. Academically, FSU would be mid conference, so that would not be an impediment. So, yes, FSU would get a full share and it’s not even debatable. Fox will pay it and the B1G will offer it.
@troywest7045
@troywest7045 14 дней назад
@@tomsmithdeal775 USC and UCLA got full shares because they we're added before the current media deal, not because of TV viewers. I highly doubt Fox offers enough for full shares and even if they did the B1G Presidents wouldn't offer it. That's a rabbit hole they wouldn't want to go down by creating unequal revenue sharing amongst it's newest members and like I said USC/UCLA is apples to oranges, completely different situation. You also have to assume any such proposal would be an automatic 4 no votes from the west coast schools and the optics of that for the B1G would be less than optimal. The only way I see FSU getting a full share is if Fox rips up the current media deal and makes a new one, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. @@powell4661 That's not relevant to the point, on your second thought though, that's not even true. Schools that originally joined that are no longer members usually increased their research dollars the entire time (though perhaps not every year, year over year, there may have been some dips), by virtue of inflation if nothing else. The seem to prefer specific types of research as non-members such as FSU, VT, NCSU, Clemson in the ACC, Cinci in the big 12, and Kentucky and UGA in the SEC all do more research than a large number of current (and in some, most, cases recently invited) members. The point is, it is not an accreditation, it is a country club. Members have left (or in the case of Nebraska and only Nebraska as the only "tossed out" school) been kicked out without fundamentally changing the way they do business. Additionally, the method by which they are removed is a 3/4 vote to kick (the same as getting an invite). No standard of metrics is imposed, they clearly appear to have some sort of agreements by various factions to add schools (basically every top 25 USNEWS, every UCAL campus, every IVY, every UAA, and every big-10 except Nebraska, which bodes well for them to get it back at some point), and this clique system is exacerbated by keeping the bar so high to add or remove. To add to this, there are almost zero southern members before the 1980's. It was a northern thing. This makes it hard to add schools that do exceed say... Oregon, or Kansas academically and in research, which nearly every school I mentioned as non-members above does.

Armando sounds like a jealous Miami fan, so let me break this down for you. First and foremost, it's about money. FSU nearly generates more TV viewers and revenue than UNC and Miami combined. Last year, FSU averaged 4.16 million, Clemson 2.90m, Miami 2.65m, and UNC 1.93m. That data has been consistent since the ACC expanded in 2013. Second, it's about stacking competitive programs. FSU has played in 7 CFP/NY6/BCS bowls in the last 12 years. They've won a national title, 4 conference titles, and a Heisman in that period. For Miami, it's been more than 20 years since they've even finished top-10. They've never won the ACC in their 20 years as a member.They lost to Wisconsin in their lone NY6 bowl. They've won 1 postseason game (Russell Athletic Bowl) in the last 17 years. Next, comes game atmosphere. FSU has one of the best college gamedays in the country. They routinely sell out despite most fans having to drive 4+ hours in. It's on campus and provides an actual college game experience. FSU also has one of the better traveling fanbases for road games. Miami has less than half of their seats filled despite "buy one, get two free tickets" promos and being located in a major metropolitan area. The stadium is a 45-minute drive from campus and there is literally no college game atmosphere. Fans don't travel for away games (unless it's FSU) and don't add anything on that end. For academics, according to US News, FSU is the #53 university. Miami is #67. If you want to go to major cities for football, then go to NFL games. College football is about going to college campuses in college towns to watch college football. Look at every program in the B1G not named Rutgers or Northwestern. If you're looking to get murdered in the parking lot because your visiting team just won, then Miami is a great choice for you.
