This channel focusses on urban, travel and countryside EDC and tips.
I look at the small items that make a big difference in helping you navigate modern life in simple, confident competence.

By EDC - I mean - Everyday Carry, Everyday Convenience & Everyday Competence

EDC starts with pocket carry and extends out into useful tips, tools and toolkits. It includes anything that makes life a little easier. I show a range of equipment reviews and ideas to help better prepare for everyday and unusual situations that crop up as we go about our lives. This includes some everyday tech for non-techies as well. I am based in the UK so you won't see any guns or large lock knives.

As a modern man/traveller/Dad/Grandad I have a lot of life experience with some suitable and usefull ideas for everyone. I know that EDC is often more of a boy's (man's) interest and I will try to make sure that the videos interest women as well. I really welcome all comments helping me to get better.

I carried a Victorinox Explorer for a whole month earlier this year. I was buying too many knives, too compulsively, and I needed to remind myself that something simple with a sharp edge is all that's really needed for utility, everything else is just flavour.

Despite having plenty to choose from, it's been a Marbles copperhead every day for getting on for a year. We just get on, and let's face it, it's expendable. So, challenge cheerfully accepted. Were I to swap, there's a Boker congress currently on pencil sharpening duty which would do nicely ... but I won't.

Thought provoking, thanks for another great video. If we define it as "one knife," I can cheat and carry a knife AND a Knifeless Rebar or a SwissCard Nail Care or Jetsetter or a Roxon S501U with a file or saw paired with the scissors. Even a Roxon Flex without a blade. I think you may have been thinking about it in terms of "one tool."

@@MB_EDC Tangent incoming. You can get A LOT done with the Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1 paired with a Roxon S501U for scissors and file/saw and a pair of Knipex 100s or 125s. If I was limited to "one knife," I'd be VERY happy with this set up for September. Great little three tool kit with some spare bits. I REALLY like driving screws with that Milwaukee. Perfectly centered, locked in place and very ergonomic handle. And the utility blade is so easy to deploy. The Roxon S501U scissors are the best I have ever seen on a multitool. More like shears. Knipex makes incredible pliers of course. Every tool is exceptional save maybe the Roxon file and saw which are at least average. Throw in a Swiss Card NailCare in the wallet and I could go YEARS with that combination and not suffer any FOMO.

Victorinox Evowood 10. I love wooden handles and they are shaped nicely on this model. I've never heard of anybody using water on a whetstone, they are known as oilstones for a reason. most engineers who know how to use one use oil. No mouldy residue with oil. you shouldn't use one dry as you need lubricant to stop the stone glazing. It's worked for me the last 60 years. PS soak the stone in paraffin or light oil for a few days before using, then you rarely need to lubricate, they don't need to be soaking wet.I'm not being Negative, but trust me water is no good. Originally whetstone's were lubricated with linseed oil, but, these days it's deemed too thick
@MB_EDC
@MB_EDC 22 часа назад
There has been some confusion over this point. This is definitely a water stone - not an oil stone. The instructions with it day to soak in water. Water stones tend to have higher grit ratings than oil stones..
@thefoodiechannelcookingfro1822
@thefoodiechannelcookingfro1822 14 часов назад
@@MB_EDC you'll probably find it is a translation error and is often seen in instructions from Chinese sourced products. It is highly probable that during translation whetstone was thought to have ment wetstone and so why they are telling you to use water. Having bought some years ago a Stanley chisel set with a whetstone, it came with light oil.
@Boomer-Dude

Oilstones and whetstones are both used for different things for sharpening tools like chisels and plane blades you would use an oilstone but for sharpening kitchen knives a chef will use a whetstone.

@@MB_EDC Wouldn't say... I draw a clear line between pricy and expensive. I paid 23€ for my new classic SD when getting into SAKs. Not very pricy and definitely not expensive when accounting that it's Swiss made and comes with a warranty and the excellent quality and comparing to other quality brands. Then for example anything for 500€ is very pricy but you wouldn't call a really good car (Ferrari or something ridiculous) for 500€ expensive. 500€ for a SAK is definitely extremely expensive and impossible to justify utility wise, maybe as an investment. See what I mean? "Priciness" is purely based on price, "expensiveness" on price per value. Sometimes something can be extremely cheap but still way too pricy. Imagine the worlds grandest manor and its surroundings for 1 000 000€£$.

ALWAYS pull back on the blade, If you push the blade into the stone you stand the chance of cutting the stone rather than the blade, also you do not create a good bur. Concentrate on ONE SIDE ONLY to make a bur on the other side then lightly do the other side BUT only enough to remove the bur, your blade should look like a chisel end when finished, and not a " V ", that way it keeps it edge longer. Just look at any new kitchen blade.
