Greetings, I am Liath Wolf. I make youtube videos on Scottish mythology, folklore, the paranormal, occult and anything that interests me. Hopefully some of them interest you.
Really great video! I am a big fan of the analysis! I have a podcast called Witches n' Stitches where we dive in to the story of Major Thomas Weir in Episode 2. I took the liberty of putingt the link to your video in the podcast description. Please have a listen! open.spotify.com/episode/2gcCxUJdGdx4nSLndNe16T?si=f3b399680b884d78
A Douglas!; A Douglas! My mother was a Douglas from the Scots-Irish Douglas Clan. Came to America in the 18th century. I grew up hearing about the family. Thank you for this video.
Whilst the Black Douglas was undoubtedly a great warrior and stalwart friend, his sense of direction is, perhaps, slightly suspect. Charged with carrying the Bruce’s heart from Scotland to Jerusalem (direction approximately south east) he manages to get killed in the second battle of Teba - which is in southern Spain (direction approximately south-south-west.) Perhaps he should have paid the extra and got a direct flight. I had the pleasure of living in Andalucia and seeing the grave of the Bruce’s heart before it was returned to Scotland. So much for the King’s last wish. 600+ years and it’s back where it started. Great story, though.
18:28 I do wonder if the idea that fey are fallen angels or Nephilim is entirely a Christian imposition. All mythologies are interlinked. Take Greek mythology for instance. We see the roots of European fairies on Greek mythology - so many examples to list, Dionysus and maenads, nymphs, Persephone , Artemis, etc and within Greek mythology we do have a big storyline about a certain lineage of gods going rogue - the titanomachy , and then the gigantomachy, resulting in a great flood. That seems to be a thoroughly pagan version of ‘rogue gods being related to fey’
Is it just me or does the wife’s kidnapping remind you of alien abduction stories? I.e., the sidhe abduct the laird’s wife by floating her out the window, cause her to lose consciousness, resulting in lost time.
Being part Scots-Irish from my mom's side of the family, I'm always fascinated to learn about the stories and legends I never knew until curiosity hitting me hard in the head. My first time hearing this tale was from a song known as Tamlin, sung by a band known as Faun. Such a strong tale of courage and love.👏👏👏
These stories viewed through a modern prism seem to imply that wolves as a species were in trouble in Scotland possibly centuries before they were finally wiped out. Even the one bit of old oral tradition that you quoted mentioned how hungry the wolves seemed to always be. The behavior they exhibited in all of those stories seems to imply the same thing. They were scavenging graves, opportunistically targeting children, and even attacking grown armed men according to the stories and pretty much none of that is normal for major predators when their habitats are healthy and primary food sources are plentiful.
Unfortunately, I have lost some of the older videos, so I don't have just the raw audio for them, the next one will definatly not have it or be very quiet. (I will check again for the old files) Thanks
@@LiathWolf thanks for take the time to reply and look in to this . The story you read are great and your voice is just perfect to listen to and relax and escape for a while or even fall asleep .
I'm so glad to hear about the original version and ideas of this story. It really makes a difference when you're a girl (woman? haha). Thank you for your video and research. 🌻
I am a bit embarrassed to say that, only ever hearing the song and never seeing the lyrics in print, that I thought that it was “Carter Hall”, like the home of the Carter family. My favorite performance of the song is by Anaïs Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer- it’s exceptionally beautiful. Thank you for sharing this, and for choosing such appropriate artwork for it. 🩶
Thank you very much for making and sharing these videos!!😊❤ It's so strange that many different Countries have such Similar Tales!! I'm part Welsh//Dutch , and I recognize many of these experiences!! I've even seen them in Holland, whereby I saw 5/7 Dancing around my Gerbils cage!! About 6 inches tall, very pale white, and until I screamed they were happily dancing around this tank!! My Dad remembers this, because until my Nan taught me about them, ~my only frame of reference was "Ghosts!" Thus terrifying the 6yr old me!!
