Jose’s team failed him with this fight and its build-up. As a coach and teammate, you are supposed to encourage your fighter to keep their head clear and not become overwhelmed with emotion. At least don’t become emotional yourself, your job is to do whatever it takes to get your fighter to win. Jose’s team did the exact opposite. A great example of what I mean is when Jose’s teammate said to Jose “I told Dana that if Conor touches you, nobody will be able to hold you back.” Jose might not have felt that way himself because he knew becoming emotional would hurt him in the fight, but his teammate was trying to force him to lose control of his emotions. A lot of Conor’s opponents had this happen, like Dennis Siver, Chad Mendes, and Eddie Alvarez. Their teams got caught up in their emotions and lost focus on the real goal, which was to win the fight.
