Thank you so much! I’ve been fighting my hair for years and really the only thing it’s good for is braids but they also keep my hair from tangling. I wanted to see what my ancestors did with their hair because my hair is not like other girls and won’t do trendy hairstyles. It may not seem like much of a triumph for some people to get their hair into these styles but it was for me. Thank you again for sharing them!
🙋🏾♀️ wearing this. My family was stolen by some Vikings and taken to America and sold. O and my hair natural hair color is ginger ( unfortunately) so the must have traffic my ancestors or worst so, welp I am related to thieves that sold my ancestors and I will wear my history on my head right withy indian and African dna
There’s a Danish book called Wikinger - it’s a step by step guide to authentic 20 or so viking hair styles, men and women. Might be worth having a look at for more tutorials. Most involve some French braiding. Only issue is it’s all in Danish so I’ve spending a lot of my time studying the pictures. Your tutorial help explained some of the aspects I wasn’t too sure on. Thank you.
I love this gorgeous hairstyle I really like how you make an effort and you show me slowly what to do. When I saw some other video they were way too fast I couldn’t see the braids because the fingers were in the way blocking my view., I really like how you explain step by step and your not in a rush, when I can see how the fingers work and what parts of hair to braid thankyou.❤
This is my absolute favorite channel to do copycat styles from and I really wish you'd come back. 😢One of the things that goes along w/having to hide from everything & everyone (Covid is still a thing) is I haven't been able to get a decent haircut in YEARS. I keep my ends trimmed, but I need a good cut & style which I can't go get. Having hair as long as mine isn't normal and it's a pain in the ass. It's 2024 and women simply don't keep hair this long anymore. It's a hot ass mess. But thanks to your channel, I get to look halfway decent and feel (and pretend) that I don't look a mess. Lol I've already told my husband that once this shit passes my ass I'm making him help me shave my whole damn head. So maybe another year I;d say before it;s time for that. I hope you still check your comments from time to time and PLEASE come back. Lots of things on House of the Dragon that I'd like to see tutorials for. ❤
I grew up learning how to « tie my hair in a bun » by my grandmother. We wore it tie up like this to keep our long hair out of the way while we worked. I never knew this was a historical hairstyle but, interestingly, her father (my maternal great grandfather) was from Rom, Germany.
"At any rate, it's not a hard style to do" Girl... 😭 I had to slow the video down to 0.25x the normal speed to be able to understand how to do the first, most basic style. I still don't get it either! 😅 I have a high IQ but I'm definitely going to have to watch this many times before I get any of these
Just a correction about a point that you made in 0:25 - There isn't any reliable evidence that proves there were any female Viking warriors. The "Shield Maiden" exists in legends only. It's interesting though to know about the various hairstyles of the Scandinavian women at that time period.
When wrapping braids over the top of your hair, it's better to plait them in 7, rather than 3, so that they will lay flat on the head. My grandmother, who was of German extraction, used this technique when she was young and taught it to me when I was a teenager.
Aww darn! I wanted to see the mummies! Regardless, thanks for this video! I just learned about the Suebian Knot and went to look for modern videos after I read about it and yours was on top. I enjoyed the other two styles as well. I'm weird in that I think details like hair seem unimpotant to most history teachings, but just as today, hair is an integral component to a person's look, same as clothing. Thanks for doing this. I'll have to look at the rest of your channel now.
Hey! You haven’t posted in a few years, so I don’t know if you even see these comments, but I wanted to tell you that I’m using the first hairstyle in this video for my senior prom in a couple of days. Your videos mean a lot to me, I would spend hours in middle school and the beginning of high school trying to braid my hair like you did and come up with my own hairstyles. Then I chopped off all of my hair two years ago and I couldn’t even do a rope braid on it. This is the first time since then that my hair has been long enough to do styles like these on, and I’m finally able to braid well enough for it to look good. Thank you for being such an important part of my adolescence and I hope you’re doing okay out there 💜
Thank you for the hairstyles. It is however the Scandinavian that was called Vikings. It is a mix for our beliefs, the boats, the runes and some were raiding. What is now called Viking age is an idea made between two battles. However, we lived the same way much before these battles, as rock carvings show. But to be accurate, the Scandinavian were called and known as Vikings, not just anyone travelling by boat. I just love that you focus on to get the hairstyles correct.
Thank you! I have been a Leia fan since I saw the first film in the drive-in as a kindergartner. We’re going to the Georgia Renaissance Festival Saturday, which is May the Fourth. I have learned the hard way that wearing my waist-length hair down is a very bad idea with the Georgia heat. So I think I’m going to do General Leia’s wearable hairstyle in honor of Star Wars Day! I’m experienced at French braid my own hair, even upside down. But still…Wish me luck! 😂
