DIY solar guy off grid projects with Pappa discusses practical uses for the power you produce. We are unboxing, connecting, programming, testing new products with different array setups .We discuss how we built a off grid solar system with no experience and how it works. Installing mini split heat pumps that run off solar. Running whole house heat pumps that cool and heat house upstairs and downstairs 7/24 with solar and battery bank. We also run our pool pump 7/24 with only solar and battery bank. We can even run 2 different pool heat pumps pool heaters to keep our pool heated in the winter and cool the water in the summer heat. We share the many uses with the power we produce using solar in day and stored battery backup to run appliances at night. We live in a city but use off grid to reduce our power consumption by over 80 percent. The following links will take you our affiliate partners. I keep checking this project cause it's SO COOL. I'm buying a 2KW Chinese (what else?) pure sine wave inverter for less than $200. I'm in Florida and lose power once in a while and have an old fridge in the garage I'd like to keep food in without running my generator. I already have a 100W panel and Renogy controller from an old project that I can use (for about 5a constant charge in sun). If this works I can have cold beer and frozen burgers after a hurricane (if the garage stays together).

Check out my other newer videos with the EG4 3000 watt inverter and also running mini splits. The more you improve on this design the more stuff you can run but this was a bare bones very basic example of runny ac on solar. A 12 volt solar system is extremely limited to around 1000 watts input, 24 volt system is around 3000-4000 watt solar input and 48 volt solar power system can go up to around 20,000 watts input. The best bang for your buck right now is the EG4 3000 watt off grid inverter that will give you true 3000 watt output with up to 5000 watts of solar input. Add a second EG4 3000 watt inverter and you can run a 3 -5 ton ac system on your house, would need 8000-10000 watts input total but can find used mixed manufacturer mono solar panels 25- 230-260 watt mono solar panels for $500, freight might be $200-$350. Check out my other newer videos for more ideals before you decide what to do. You will find it amazing of what you can do with off grid solar and how easy is is to do DIY. They have other pallets with less panels sometimes starting at $200. Links in video for SanTan Solar used panels. Hope you get a lot of ideas of what would best suit your needs.

Also they add new products almost daily. I check there website several times a day to get the best prices because they post new listings for solar panels throughout the day. So I catch a lot of really low prices and last 2 months they had a very large amount of mono solar panels extremely cheap. The more often you check their site, the better deals you will find and for me, it usually worth it to get pallets of mono used panels for $18-$30 each. Hope you find some great deals, I know I bought over 25 different pallets of poly and most mono solar panels are mixed manufactures and different watt output but usually within 30-40 watts difference. Lately like I said they have been getting in a lot of used mono panels but it’s different every week since these panels come from them removing from large solar arrays around the country with either replacing older panels or decommissioned systems that a business is no longer open. So check back often to get the best deals and be patient, there are always great deals often.

The Biden administration is raising the tariffs on solar products and EV products being dumped into our country at low prices on August 1, 2024. The increase in tariffs is from 25 percent to 50 percent for products from China and Southeast Asia. They have been avoiding the tariffs by shipping to countries without tariffs and then shipping into US. The tariffs from what I understand are for solar panels, inverters and batteries along with electric vehicle components. It was not in the news that I saw. I noticed that Signature Solar and SanTan Solar has the news on their websites. So I went and investigated it and shared about the increase in video. Hope this helps clarify and for some it will delay them or keep them from going solar until prices come down. This tariffs is supposed to help US manufacturers be competitive in prices but the consumer ends up paying more. Used solar panels which I use a lot that are removed and then tested and sold should not be affected by tariffs increase since the panels have been in use for several years here in the US. Hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.

How do you have you inverters set up with your battery banks? Do you have the eg4 and growatts tied into the same battery bank?
@diy-solar-guy
@diy-solar-guy День назад
@@kenthiergartner1506 all 4 - EG4 3000 watt inverters have to share same battery bank but each EG4 3000 watt inverter has to have its own separate solar panel array.you can not share battery bank with different inverters at all. The Growatt low frequency inverters can not be paralleled together. Only the exact same inverters that are designed to be paralleled and with the EG4 3000 watt inverter you can parallel up to 12 inverters for a total of 36,000 watts of output. I use EG4 LiFePO4 batteries for all my battery banks. 2-51.2 dc volt 100ah 5120 wh batteries in parallel for one 12kw Growatt and another separate set of 2-51.2 dc volt 100ah 5120 wh batteries for the other 12kw Growatt. That is 4 batteries. Then I have the 5-51.2 dc volt 100 ah 5120 wh batteries in parallel for a total of 25.5 kWh battery bank for the 4-EG4 3000 watt inverters in parallel. Each EG4 LiFePO4 battery is 5.1 kWh. So 3 separate solar power off grid systems with 3 separate battery banks. Hope that helps you understand, you can also watch my latest videos with the EG4 inverters in parallel and I show that there are 3 completely separate system. If I had the more solar panels and more space in yard, I could theoretically have 36,000 watts of output since all 3 separate systems can output 12,000 watts each. I could never use that much but since those 2 Growatt inverters each weighs 186 lbs, they are staying on the wall till I rather sell or give to family or friends. Just to hard to take off wall. @@Greg-bx4id I started
@diy-solar-guy
@diy-solar-guy День назад
@Greg-bx4id I started out with getting the 2 12kw inverters refurbished and got 2 for the less than the price of one new one. They are solid long term inverters that you can buy replacement boards online if one goes down. The diy guy can replace the boards so I keep those on the wall since they were extremely heavy and hard to mount on the wall. (186 lbs). I was using those 2 Growatt inverters until I decided to get a EG4 3000 watt off grid inverter to install in my motor home to run a 12,000 btu 110 volt mini split. The efficiency was so impressive that I bought another inverter and was able to start my 3 1.2 ton whole house heat pump for upstairs and run all day on solar then switch to EG4 battery bank at night and not use the grid electric to air condition the house. When I was able to run my 3 1/2 ton 24 hours a day, I decided to get 2 more and put in parallel to run my 4 ton downstairs heat pump as well. The 2 ac’s use 6500 watts with both running. Too much for just 2 - 3000 watt inverters. So I ended up with 4 - EG4 inverters in parallel and soon will have rewired all my solar arrays to run everything on just the 4 - EG4 inverters. No sense in taking the 2 Growatt inverters off the wall since I can switch over to one of them when I have my other 4 inverters down for maintenance of emergency. I have 2 backups on the wall but not worth selling or taking down since already on the wall. That’s the story. I don’t need to buy another inverter, all 3 inverter systems run great. The EG4 3000 watt inverter fits well into storage area in the motor home and a large inverter would not fit such as the EG4 6000 watt it 18,000 watt inverter. Just needed to have 120volt output in motor home fit my mini split. That’s how it all started and I’m completely happy with my choices. I’m like NASA , back up of a back up, lol. I have a lot of different arrays because I try to show different ways to mount solar panels and they are so so cheap out here, I’m getting 260-400 watt used mono and bifacial for $18-$30 each that are giving me excellent output. When I first started , they place I buy used solar panels only had used poly panels and very little mono, but used mono panels were very expensive. In the last 2 months, they have been selling ridiculously cheap so I had to get and replaced my poly panels, I’m getting double the output with the used mono versus the used poly panels which means I can start running things at 6 am and keep running to 7 or 8 pm, then able to charge batteries banks back up to 100 percent by 9-11 am. Hey thanks for your input, hope you have a very blessed week.

There is a tariff increase on solar products imports starting August 1, 2024. To try to help US manufactures stay competitive in the solar products market. it is 25 percent now and will increase to 50 percent. So US made products will not increase. This increase is only for imported products. Most products are imported so it will affect a lot of products. The following is from an article earlier this year. The Biden administration has raised import tariffs on China and Southeast Asia as plummeting global solar prices hurt U.S. factory expansion plans. Last week, President Biden announced plans to increase U.S import tariffs on Chinese solar cells and panels from 25% to 50% among a host of other products, on the grounds of unfair Chinese business practices.

@olaade2109 if you get a lot of clouds out there in the area of Florida you live in, you need to take that into consideration. Cloudy days and rainy days will be hard to produce power. If you build a system you might want to look at mono solar panels that do well in those two conditions. Solar input when cloudy or raining can drop significantly to where you might only have 20 percent input or less. In Arizona, we have over 320 days of full sunshine and very little rain, especially in Phoenix because of the heat island effect from very little trees or grass and mostly buildings, roads, houses and vehicles adding to heat keeping the clouds from being over the whole Phoenix area. It pushes clouds around the city rather than the clouds moving over the city. Hope you have a blessed day

For a cheap back-up system this is great! Solar panels are very cheap and so are window ac units. Even a basic mini split system will have double the efficiency of a window ac. A typical value for a window ac is a cop of 2.6 In cooling mode a basic mini split will be around a cop of 6 and easily hit 5 . Some very modern Mitsubishi electric, not Mitsubishi Heavy industries!! will exceed a cop of 11(!!!!!) In my eyes that is mindblowing! Midrange Midea models exist that can hit a cop of 8 and some models even 9 but to be honest, at that price point I'd pay the little extra and go for a Mitsubishi unit which will last for decades and will provide efficient heating as well. Also 98% of these mini split systems are inverter driven and thus way less of a trouble to start them on batteries. Last but not least. I'd slowly turn away from lead acid batteries. LFP has become so cheap, in my eyes there's no point in using them anymore unless you already have one.

@@aphilly2158 you could but would have to use at least twice as many components. You would be better off getting an all in one inverter, either 24v or preferable 48 volt inverter. I have videos on 24 volt and different 48 volt inverters. These all in one inverters are typically pure sign wave output and can take at least 2000 watts of solar input. I find most people that try to do this example of running window ac with solar go onto want to expand system to run even more appliances. Watch my other videos to see everything I have been able to run with solar. I started with this very basic system and now run my 3 1/2 ton (36,000btu) and 4 ton (48,000 btu) heat pumps in my 2450 square foot 2 story house with only Solar during the day and run my 3 1/2 ton ac overnight with EG4 LiFePO4 battery bank. When on a tight budget, used solar panels are a great alternative to new solar panels. Price wise you would probably spend same amount of money buying double the products used in video and the all in one inverter would end up being a less expensive overall cost to run the 10 btu window ac. A 100 amp hour led acid can only be run down to 12.1 volts safely.. and to handle the start up of the compressor it will spike easily to 15 to 18 amps at 120 volts... that will drain that battery faster then you can recharge it.. so even in full day sun at max solar generation you will not be able to run that AC long enough to cool down a small room in 95 degree temps outdoors no way.. Don't purchase a air conditioner that draws 15 amps if the btu's are under 10000,

I would suggest that you never purchase a modified sine wave inverter. They will shorten the life of electric motors. check the net for a modified sine wave vs a pure sine wave

Hey, thanks for your helpful input about modified sine wave inverter. We used this set up for a little over 2 years and had no problems.

Awesome video. Id love to know what model of ac can blow 43 degrees when it is that hot outside. Ac guys always tell you the reason ac doesnt blow cold is because its hot outside…on an ac inside. Ive always thought that was bs. This proves that.

Thank you. Usually out here it is hard to get lower than 40 of the outside temp for the room temperature. The temp of the air blowing out of the ac is much colder than the room temp. It can be 110 degrees outside here and my whole house ac or mini split can blow 35-55 degrees. But you won’t be able to get your room that cold with all the heat sources like windows, doors, walls, etc… Hope that helps to clear things up. Thanks for the comment and hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed day.

Thank you so much for your extremely blessed comment. This is what we started with over 4 years ago. Today will be 112 degrees and it is noon, the upstairs, downstairs and garage is at 74 degrees right now. All from just off grid solar during the day and we run our upstairs ac overnight on LiFePO4 battery bank.a at
