Draft2digital is a racist company that serves only people in the west. I used to have an account with them, one day, all of a sudden, they closed my account and deleted all my books. They did the same from all writers from developing countries. Then, I moved to Smashwords. A few months later, they acquired smashwords and did the same thing, they expelled people from Africa and other developing countries. I had over $250 in smashwords at the time, till this day, neither smashwords nor draft2digital has paid me my $250. Fraudulent, Racist company.

Great to hear Mark Reklau again - he always brightens my day. It's thanks to his generous support of the Foundation that I have a full-time career as an author. The foundation came at the right time, enabling me to give a fledgeling series the best possible start. I used the money to hire an excellent cover designer and an editor. The series is still going strong, gaining some firm fans around the world, and spawning a spin-off crime series into the bargain. I'm working on the sixth novel in the original series, and I still refer back to the Ads for Authors course to learn (and relearn) the skills I need to keep going in this business. I have a lot to be grateful for, so thank you to all involved in the Foundation.
My debut book I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE REAPER (GAY FANTASY) is on RU-vid and I'm super excited that it got 10K views in 24 hours. Loved this video it was super helpful for me.
I use Written Word media for my last three promos. The promo stacks were very effective. Over five thousand downloads from the three I ran. And yes I'm gearing up for more. I want to try their email promotion next 😊
After years of working with WordPress, both for my own needs and for many clients, I was lured away last year after listening to Stuart Grant in another episode of the SPS. I bitterly regret that decision, after wasting thousands of dollars and a year diddling about with Wix. It is so incredibly inferior to WordPress and all the hype about it being more user-friendly? Not really, because when you're used to the immense creative freedom offered by WordPress, Wix is shockiingly useless. So I'm crawling back to Bluehost like a whipped puppy and starting all over, now having to rebrand everything with new domain names that I stupidly gave up to go with Wix. There's also the point that Wix becomes tremendously more expensive than WordPress when you start to add up all the important "extras" that aren't extra at all for the serious writer or indie publisher, e.g., the cost of domain-specific emails. Never again!! More to the point of this episode, what a disappointment, as some others have pointed out. I resent having my time wasted by so much self-promo and absolutely no practical information, just Wix propaganda. I've so much appreciated the valuable interviews James Blatch has podcast over the years, but this isn't one for the archives.
Stuart has been super helpful for my career. He went above and beyond the usual website builder. Really helped me. Also his website was great, still going strong three years later
Sorry, Wordpress is far more flexible and powerful for a writer than Wix. I did not learn anything from the guest. However, I learnt that James would like to sell his audiobooks direct. I also learnt how James plans to use AI in his workflow. That info is the highlight of this video. Again, I learnt nothing from the guest.
This was really useless, sorry i love you guys and joined the SPF community but i did not get any useful information; wix and not Wordpress. If you were to listen to this episode you’d realize nothing is mentioned about SEO, best practices, colors, site names, links etc. James had good questions but the answers were about your speaker’s dog and the money he had to spend. Again James spoke at length about his new business venture These can not be just about promoting your products otherwise make it perfectly clear that this is what is it is.
Watching this in 2024 is kind of crazy when he says 'any plans for 2020.' Neither of them know that the next two years of their life will be defined by a global pandemic.
Interesting, thank you. I went the ACX route but I totally agree with Victoria about audiobook listeners often liking one narrator. That’s me. There’s something comforting in the one to one especially as I listen at night.
I think KDPs AI audio narration Beta Program is probably going to put a serious dent in Podiums future acquisition. The Beta program actually lets you set your own price, which is something you can only do if you sell it directly. That's a big deal. I haven't tried it yet as I don't have any books or series available yet. But I'll have two new series starting this fall, so we'll see if we go that route or not.
I'm looking forward to this. Curious as to alternatives for new authors who can not afford audio conversion. AI sounds fake. I personally listen to audio books daily. When doing kitchen duties walking the dog and every evening after dinner. I'm averaging 4-5 books a week this way. My writing schedule on the weekends is less hours so often I get that fifth book in. 😉
I kept waiting for something to learn or apply, but there wasn't anything. It was just two guys chatting, not teaching, just networking amongst themselves.
