LC Smith (the Smith of Smith-Corona) made wonderful SxS shotguns, highly coveted today and, when compared to modern, highly technological autoloading shotguns, completely analogous to the typewriter. LC's (pronounced Elsies) are lovely to hold and look at, delightful to carry. Sitting on a log, studying the lines, the finish, the fit and tolerances, feeling glad just to own the thing, is a wonderful break during the hunting day. Most of us shoot better with them too.
It's amazing how your values change when you have 500K subs and have a $13.8K a month patreon (where the patreon only videos are crap movies you made of your then friends 10-20 years ago). Yeah Ive got the shits with Van.
Thought I'd pop this here , a FB post from a local repair group. On Saturday, the volunteers successfully repaired 38 items in three hours; that’s more than one broken thing saved from landfill every five minutes. But it’s a stat that doesn’t quite tell the story. As Repair Café Hobart secretary and sewist Roz puts it, time works a little differently in the repair cafe. Repairs take time, and we encourage visitors to bring a book or to just sit and have a conversation with a stranger while they wait their turn. A repair cafe can be about living life differently, getting away from the mouse wheel of acquisition and notions of 'wasted time'. Roz points out that when we take the time to repair rather than buy new, we have time to create communities.
I realize this is a few years old but it really hit home for me ... I should say took me home. Unlike you, I was raised in New York and spent the first 40 years of my life there before I left for Los Angeles to get sober. Getting sober in New York City would've been impossible because every single corner and every single neighborhood and every single person was in someway involved, for better or worse, with getting high. I hit the lowest of lows in New York and the highest of highs in New York.. I knew the best of people and I knew the worst of people.. I lived in the best places and I lived in the worst places. But when I look on a map I realize how small my world was.. it only stretched 118 miles from the Bowery to Montauk.. Since my decision to leave New York City not only has the entire country opened up in front of me, but the entire world.. And I've been 'sober' for 30 years ... if you don't include a little weed. Thanks for the trip home..
I loved this video! It made me realize a few interesting things about do lists. First, our creativity can get drowned out when we focus too much on tasks, which can lead to burnout. Taking breaks is just as important as checking off items. Second, listening to that quiet voice in our heads can be a game changer for how we tackle our projects. It’s like our inner guide knows what we really need to do. Lastly, making time for fun and relaxation should always be on our lists too. It’s about finding balance! Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
I have no idea how someone could wear out a set of carhart double knees in 2 years, lol. My dad has been wearing the same pair for 15! Much of that working in a workshop and on construction sites
Are you going to sell the spirited man work shirts again? I’ve wanted one to become a part of my uniform but they don’t look like oh can get them anymore! Would love to have a part of your channel in my everyday life!
Totally have to check out that thrift store. I visit the area a bunch. Stay at the Vantage Point Inn eat too many times at Boulevard Burgers and go on adventures with the wife.
