Hi we are Bec, Sam, Isabella & Euan. After selling our house in the UK & travelling Europe in a motorhome for 10 months we have bought a derelict farm in Ireland. We are keen to try and live an off grid life, free from debt whilst bringing the farm back to its former glory. We are doing this on a very tight budget and plan on doing as much of the work ourselves. Please follow along on our journey...we need all the support we can get!

Whereabouts in Ireland is the cottage located? I’m a new subscriber. Loving the video after watching episode 39 then clicked on to this 40 episode one. The dog staring at the cat and chickens and scooting around was so delightful to see. Amazing work ethic. Excellent camera work that makes for really interesting content. I applaud you both and wish you all the best in your endeavours. I shall be an avid viewer from now on. 👏👏👏🫶❤️
Great tile work, and the messier it is the more fun it is😂. Also, the more you progress the more professional you sound, "Globs of cement" , a perfect description.
That comment is correct you need to get another big strong friend to help with those weights. Start taking body building supplements too. This is wisdom I've learned from my own experience too 👍😁😉
@theirishhomestead I live in the United States and ordered it on Amazon after your last show. The red rose brand here in the US years ago tasted like this yorkshire tea. I'm glad I decided to try it out. 🤗
At the end of the day, we're all mere "armchair builders" giving a running commentary. It's Sam and Rebecca's story, their build, their dream, their home they're working on. May they be inspired and blessed..
Thanks, Jeff. Sam likes to think on things a while and hates to be rushed. Plus we have two kids we have to home ed. There is a lot more to our lives than the renovation, although some days it doesn't feel like it!
More progress 👏, it will come together. Pity someone can’t lend you a mini digger, makes a huge difference to lifting and shifting, just handy for loads of things.
Cool books to find! The second one looks like a school reader. ? I really like that you are turning the extension that you just knocked the wall down on, into a formal sitting room. :) Hello from Oregon!
I think so too, thanks! It took us a while to figure it out and a few subscribers mentioning it before we realised, but I think it's the best layout option.
Thank you. I loved finding those books. It's really interesting as there haven't been kids at the property since the 40s or 50s which makes sense as reading other comments the type face changed for Gaelic in the 60s so these books must be from the 1950s I'd say.
Hi. It makes my head spin thinking of all the wall preparation before you can even start the inside renovation. Its amazing how you work out what has to be done to make this house a home.....
I helped my husband some years ago 2015 lifting a replacement lintel for the bottom of a terraced back window for my old house in the kitchen. We had to lift it up from the yard to the kitchen window. Big stone thick lintels. Then a new window on top of it. But that was at ground level and I struggled then! lol
What a beautiful partnership u guys have, just watch the backs as those Lintols are heavy and it only takes a second to cause permanent damage. Keep it up Guys......Love it 🙃👏👏
I love the progress on the house. You are both doing a stellar job. Please let Rebecca help you with the work. You are a team, and things will go a lot smoother this way. Your back is not meant to do such heavy lifting. If you hurt yourself the build stops. Please be careful. Thanks from Canada.
Yes we have been doing more together this week. I think he realised how much he was putting his body in jeopardy. We need him fir and able to complete this project and enjoy it all afterwards.
Rebecca, what a beautiful intro you did with all the animals at the beginning - loved it! You folks are such hard grafters. It's fascinating and amazing to watch as you transform your Irish homestead. Loving each and every bit. I know it's a lot of hard work doing all the video stuff, but I have to admit wanting more longer ones! Take care across the pond and stay safe. :)
Aww thanks. I try with my editing to set the scene as honestly I love waking up here every day and want to try to convey the beauty of the place and what we saw when we first arrived, despite the fact a lot of it is currently a building site right now. ♥️
Hi guys! Watching the menagerie enjoying their repose was delightful. All is well in their world. Love that the chickens go into the house when it rains. Glad Sam got help lifting. I am so excited to watch the progress...cannot wait to see you all celebrating Christmas in your new digs, feet up in front of the fire, relaxing. You are truly keepers of a 300 year old legacy. What a joy to have actual documentation of the road from ruin to restoration. Bravo. Too many buildings are discarded these days. The pointing is wonderful...the stones look beautiful. Cool book finds! Amazing! Cheers to you all from Canada 🇨🇦🫶
Ahh now I'd love for us to be in by Christmas! The kids especially want that! The caravan is better now cladded with a log burner and diesel heater but it's very cold a some days...and damp.
@@theirishhomestead it may not be THIS Christmas, but sizeable progress will have been made by then Perhaps a celebration in what will be the lounge on New Year's Eve will suffice, a toast to all accomplished and to what will be! 🫶🫶
Just seen my name on one of those old books, back in the day there was a dot on the top of the t when I was at school,it was dropped and a h was inserted. We also wrote in Irish letters as you can see in the old text.
❤ thank you for another wonderful video. Traveling through this massive project of yours in a piece of the world unfamiliar at first to many of us. Some of your editing brings a familiar sense to my part of the world. Birds sharing their delightful stories. Flowers that seem to know no boundaries. The whispers of the trees in the air. And yes even the rain that sometimes is natures way telling us to rest. Reflect and remember why. We do what we do. Thanks for sharing. And yes. Know your strengths and weaknesses because you have to continue working To get to the finish line. Great job. Thanks again.
Thanks Karen for such a beautiful message. Really glad you enjoyed the intro and outros as much as I do filmimg them. Ireland is such a beautiful place and I love to show people this as well as the renovation.
A HUGE WELL DONE YOU HAVE WORKED SO HARD AND IT WAS LOVELY TO SEE YOU ALL YOUR FAMILY WORKING AS A TEAM TO GET THE JOB DONE WELL DONE ALL, ITS BLOOMING HARD WORK BUT WILL BE OH SO WORTH IT WHEN ITS COMPLETED. Enjoy the journey and the family memories will be there forever. Love to you all.
You two are like machines! Apart form the fact that you have fab personalities and enough enthusiasm for us all. It is so exciting and heart warming to watch the progress that you are making. Your home is going to be so pretty and functional, and filled with love. Thank you for sharing it all with us xx
Thank you so much!! That's really lovely of you. We are enjoying planning the inside now in the evenings. I feel like I can see it better since we stropped the thatch and cleared it out a bit. Plus of course knocking through.
I always love the start of your videos, showing the animals and nature. And all the old relics your finding, love that you are finding use for them. (That would be me been a hoarder lol) ❤ respect from Dublin.
The next question to ask is did you ache the day after i know I did just watching you whilst eating my poached eggs on toast for breakfeast. Crack on be safe and stay sane
Again, another busy week for you both but the progress is definitely rewarding. Look forward to watching next weeks video. I was disappointed Toby didn’t try and drown you out as you were commentating😂😂
What a beautiful beginning to your video! Soo jealous of your menagerie and now a fluffy bunny too. Does she/he live with the Guinea pigs? I can’t wait to be able to have some more animals. Haha I resonated with Sam moving the first lintel and then realising he might, after all, need your help! Ben does the same! 😂 It’s all coming a long rather nicely. A lot of hard work but the results of that are showing. The pointing is also looking mighty fine too! It’s quite a therapeutic job to do but I bet you’ll be glad when it’s done? Oh and those books!❤ what a lovely thing to find. It’s amazing learning the history the place you now call home isn’t it? So many 100’s of years of people that stood in the place where you stand now is just mind blowing. Beautiful video 😊
We actually have 2 rabbits. They were rescue ones. We have them in with the guinea pigs but they have their own hutch/run. But a shared social space lol. It's slow progress for sure. We are over stone work now! Sam is just ready to move on to the roof lol. ♥️
Does Building Control have to inspect any of the work you are doing as they would in England ? Only asking due to your thoughts on the stairs , as I don't think they would let you do it . Great vid's keep going !!
