This channel is my documentation of the many species I chase...all on fly! Small stream brookies to offshore brutes...I pursue it all normally using modern fiberglass rods with a variety of vintage reels. My fishing throughout the year is a mixture of freshwater and saltwater using rods from 2 wt to 14 wt. Occasionally i will use antique/vintage silk or nylon fly lines and antique/vintage flies from yesteryear to connect with fly fishing's past. I try (though poorly) to highlight some interesting fly fishing gear history from time to time as well.
Hey man just experienced the same exact thing a week ago during the heatwave here. Had my line in the water by 6am, was having so much fun (glassin with the Butterstick) by 2pm I hadn't realized I did not drink any fluids but my caffeinated drink which probably dehydrated me too. Temp went up from 70s to a humid 98 by the time I realized how winded I was and how hot the sun had gotten. I sprawled out on the ground dizzy and took all my gear off, barely got to the car where I had to cool off. Lets both remember to stay cool and hydrated man!! Also awesome video besides the heat!! You sold me a Moonlit lol
Thanks. Yep, heat can definitely sneak up on you especially when not drinking enough...which im prone to do. We all certainly need to stay hydrated this summer.
I had to contact Bass Pro Shops reel repair in Springfield MO...check their website under reel repair and call them. I also will be parting with some of mine soon. PM me if you want to discuss that
What line were you using? I have this in a #4 with SA #4 Frequency Trout. I think it’ll perform better with a shorter taper or their multipurpose which is more like a #4.5, though I still enjoy the slower action. Takes me back to the 80’s only this is a much better glass rod. For the price, this is a great value and feels like my Orvis Superfine. Admittedly, I feel ashamed for having spent $500 on a rod that performs on par with a $40 rod.
Enjoying your videos! You seem to enjoy the moonlit 6wt. Saw you also have the 5wt. How do they compare? In my limited experience, there can be quite a difference between rods only a single line rating apart. Just curious... Thanks for the inspiration the get out and fish more!
I had that exact rod and it made me hate fiberglass until I got rid of it and tried a custom built glass model. I hated the SLOW action of the rod and it definitely takes a lot of adjusting to set the hook without missing lots of fish.
@@daniel42020 i think it was age...they were secondhand rods that may have been stored in a garage or the material was just old....both showed no signs of prior use....the first surprised me being an Orvis...second was Redbone and didnt surprise me it broke.
Great video, you are valuable source for local fishing content+info. Is the Watauga along 105 in Foscoe decent these days? New to trout guy here, love exploring the area.
Small poppers work for both and for subsurface, beadhead wooly buggers can be good...Roanokes can be finicky and ive not done well with them lately out there.
Those fish aren’t pure southern app strain. They stocked fertile northern strain in there many many many years ago. I used to know where I read that but can’t seem to find the article anymore.
I had always heard interior gulf drainages had them and Atlantic drainages were stocked...no idea if thats true...either way i still havent seen a Newberry brookie yet.
Thanks for your honest and up front reviews on both reels. I'll definitely keep in mind those Gold Cups. I'll take the System 2 anyday. I have all three generations of SA System 2's. I dig the 1st and 2nd gen the most (especially the 1st) although I have a 5/6 3rd gen that is just fine by me. For the money, these reels are tough to beat.
Also a tip on RU-vid shorts, you can have videos up to 1 minute... But you have to tap the circle in the top right corner of the edit page that says "15" until it says "60" It's a terrible design
Very Nice. Got a spot scoped out for Cahaba bass east of there. got the Coosa, Bartrams, suwannee , shoal and made a trip for the Chattahoochee bass but didnt get one. now the new owners have posted it so got to re think where to go on the hooch bass. Very nice fish you caught.
Excellent 👌 Thanks for the vid! You ll need to invest in a bigger net! 😅 What line / leader / fly were you using on this Lunar 6wt? I ve got a trout 4wt 7’6 fiberglass fly rod and I m considering building another rod on a Moonlit Lunar 6wt blank for bigger fish… Cheers 👍
