Thank you so much for doing this video. I love Lord of The Rings movies to the point that I have this tradition of making time every year to watch them. Actually, I just finished rewatching The Hobbit for the nth time right now. I was just a kid when these movies were released and if time traveling is just possible, I will go back to those years when these movies were shown in cinemas. My uncle has a CD version of these movies and they usually watch it before from time to time and as a kid, I always see these movies as kinda weird. But then when I was in 3rd year college, I was able to watch a copy of The Hobbit and there I started to wonder about the connection of The Hobbit to LOTR. I was so curious so I watched The Hobbit unexpected journey for sooo many times and then I borrowed my uncle's old CDs of LOTR and I was so amazed after watching it again as a teenager. I even bought a copy of JRR Tolkien's books and read some parts. My friend gave me the extended collection with the behind-the-scenes shots, and just like the movie, it is around 2 hours if you watch the full documentary. Watching these movies for so long made me feel like I was also a part of their group. Imagine filming for 3 years straight and most of the time, the cast bonded with each other, had so many memorable memories and that bond is kept up to this day. Their friendship is still there after all these years.

TBF, I think The Hobbit would have been great if Peter Jackson wasn't thrust into the director's seat when Guillermo del Toro dropped out last minute. Peter asked to restart pre-production from the beginning but was denied and only given a few months instead of the year and a half he really needed. I still enjoy the 3 Hobbit movies for what they are, but they could have been so much more. Not to mention, the source material (The Hobbit book) is way smaller/shorter than the LoTR and is meant to be a children's book, so it is supposed to be a bit more whimsical and playful than the LoTR. I love that they took material from The Silmarillion to expand on the universe as a whole.

I call BS on that title ... Rankin and Bass did this series of hobbit and LOTR and people said we would never see a bigger movie ... along comes PJ and we see it ... I have seen both versions many times over .... there is NO SUCH THING AS NEVER

I watched the first 4 seasons of Community during that gap between 4 and 5. I was stuck at home at the time due to a surgery and was watching shows and movies CONSTANTLY to get over the fact I was stuck at home. When you watch it all back to back like that, Season 4's quality IMMEDIATELY makes itself known. One of the big problems I noticed was that the show leaned more into drama, akin to the Jeff and Slater storyline from season 1 that does dick for the show (Troy and Britta was basically Winger/Slater part 2). The character regression, the over-relilance on gimmicks, it was all insulting. I think what I found the most insulting, though, was "Heroic Origins", which insisted that a group that originally met by happenstance driven by Jeff's desire to fuck Britta actually ALWAYS WERE CONNECTED. Contrived, stupid, and insulting.

I absolutely love this trilogy, it holds up exceptionally well even all these years later. The one thing I wish they had done in hindsight was name all the subtitles after war, it wouldn’t have even been that difficult Captain America: Current War (Cap is fighting the war of the time then goes to the future) Captain America: Cold War (fits perfectly with the spy thriller espionage style and the Winter Soldier) Captain America: Civil War (no notes it’s already a perfect title)

The trilogy was a safe bet because (a) The Lord of the Rings is one of the best stories *every*, and (b) Peter Jackson was mostly faithful to the story, especially with regard to what made the story good. The reason Hollywood was skittish was because they are not accustomed to producing films based on good stories, and because of this it always seemed to them as if random chance or fashions in story elements was responsible for the success of films that did well.

6:03, wait, wait... It has been some time, but, I'm pretty sure that by the end of that episode, the people who were kissing the whale's ass stand up to him and THAT'S when he does the cliche move of deciding that he respects them for that and chooses Greendale over the other community college... so they absolutely get an arc... what are you talking about? Did you saw the season for this video or you just reading a summary that leaves out a ton of context?
@2leftframes
@2leftframes 14 дней назад
I just think being sellouts, then feeling guilty over being sellouts, and still getting what they want isn't a great "arc". It's like the bare minimum needed to even call it that. Certainly not a hill I'd die on. It's in the "redeeming qualities" section because I overall found it to be one of the better episodes of the season. I'm more annoyed that Archie just disappears forever after that, with no effort to further explore the premise of a "Whale" attending Greendale.
@entropias_gonos
@entropias_gonos 13 дней назад
@@2leftframes I would personally count that as an arc. Maybe the fact that at the end they get rewarded for standing up to the whale narratively muddies the message a bit, but I don't think the point of the lesson they had to learn was that it's better to have less than sell your soul. That's such a cliche message, that trying to make a sale is by it's nature an immoral act, this the only moral choice is to deny yourself any material compensation for your fair labor. Lol, I realize I'm getting a bit too deep in the theoretical sauce here, but that's basically why I don't think it's accurate to say that there was no arc there, just cause the writers decided to surprise us so to speak. In any case, there's a ton of stuff. I could argue on when it comes to season. it ain't by any measure my favorite, but, when season 6 is staring right in your soul from the corner, I can't in good conscience call out season 4 as the worst thing ever to happen at Community. That is obviously Harmon's alcoholism.
@2leftframes
@2leftframes 13 дней назад
@entropias_gonos That last line got me xD I haven't watched Season 6 in a hot minute now! Still keen to do a video on it someday. I've never watched that stretch of the show analytically/critically. I'll be curious to see if/how my own opinion of it had changed
@entropias_gonos
@entropias_gonos 13 дней назад
@@2leftframes I used to binge the show, and later not even watch it, just listen to it while I go for walks or walk to classes and work, so I got a lot of it stuck in my brain, but truth be told I haven't watched in a while either. That been said, I remember feeling line the chemistry of the group had changed so severely that it was thrown out of balance. The new actors were all great picks, professionals with each their own nature of comedic timing and flavor, but, but they, basically, came pre build, pre assembled, while you feel like the og characters grew into who they were before your eyes. For some reason even today I feel that the show was really hurt by the lack of a clearly meanspirited character ike Pierce and the rest of the characters being split between professors and student, really didn't work out as I would have wished... In any case, I would like to give you some constructive criticism before I go. Mistakes are fine and will happen, I might have been a little harsh suggesting you formes the script by reading summaries of the episode, who knows. But, if I'm to throw some honest and fair criticism towards you, that would be that maybe you should start trimming the fat a bit? In my opinion, it feels like you looping your opinion every now and then, taking minutes to basically repeat it I slightly different ways or worlds. Now, I may be wrong in this. It's not like I've seen any other of your videos and I didn't even finish that, I think I watched up to 80% of it, but, what I can tell you that at some point I felt like you were looping, especially when it comes to trying to explain both the positives and the negatives of the season. In any case, I hope when next I happen upon a video of yours that I'll be compelled to stay. Adios.
@2leftframes
@2leftframes 13 дней назад
Having a clear "villain" absolutely held the group in balance! I definitely agree there. Trimming the fat is absolutely something I've been working on! I tend to write massive brain-dumps, then edit to get it to something more presentable. But as the final audio and video cut is taking shape, sections get rearrange, removed, or built back up. It's a rough pipeline, and creates a lot of bloat. Nowadays that early stage is: braindrump, edit, edit, edit, edit, then record haha. I'm still a chatty guy, so that will always come across. But I've been very consciously trying to avoid excessive repetition. Thanks for sharing. Have a good one :)

I agree. The PJ Trilogy was a rare moment of film making. The behind the scenes was a fantasy filmmaking 101 course. After hearing that Amazon had committed a Billion budget for the War of the Ring, While also completely destroying the Wheel of Time, A favorite of mine next to the Lord of the Rings. What I wouldn't give to have had someone dedicate a Billion to do the Wheel of Time and give it the same dedication and passion Pj and crew gave towards the Trilogy.

I got so much hate for siding with Cap in this movie, my friends were like "you actually agree with somebody who didn't even have a good reason to not sign the Accords" I don't see it being that simple, I'm on Cap's side because it boils down to whether or not you trust the government to do what's right in the time of need; I'd much rather depend on myself and what I can do than to depend on a government whose agendas can change at the drop of a hat Yea property was damaged, yea some lives were lost and that is very unfortunate, but the alternative could have been very much worse given Loki's plan in A1 & Ultron's plan in A2 #TeamCap4Life

Honestly lord of the rings is amazing but it's just themes and aesthetics There's very little genuinely intricate character drama or development Most characters just have a singular simple revolution that is their character arch with little nuance It's not like later fantasies like dune and GOT where there's legitimately deep interwoven characters and narrative
