Wow we know things expand but there’s the evidence. How many joints do you need in how many feet to keep It from buckling? And why do you water it down? Love the traveling shop w generator huge compressor and everyone you’d ever need.
@riograndeman
@riograndeman 7 часов назад
We water the ballast down to try to help keep it from moving .....however that particular section has the old Marigold ballast under it ...then the new red ballast.was thintop coated over it .....the Marigold ballast is like sand and does not hold the track very well .....needs to be dug out switched to full depth red ballast and then watered down .......the red ballast when watered down and dries sets like concrete.... then track wont move nearly as much

Thanks for the refresher course! I need to lubricate the locomotive and I'd forgotten how I'd gotten it apart soon after I bought it some years ago. (Memory.. they say it's the first thing to go. Or is it the second? I forget....) I had to fix a similar problem with the wiring to the pickups. I also thought the pickup wires were very stiff, so I replaced them with 30 gauge wire. Gave the trucks a lot more freedom of movement. Highly recommend replacing the wires if you can.

Hello, I wanted to add turntable to my layout because I see that not having one, and running pre 1930 steam locomotives makes operations a little tedious if they always run tender first 😂 I'll take inspirations to kitbash my own with some spare wood I have in my attic, just like you did :)
@StanFerris
@StanFerris 24 дня назад
Have fun, and good luck with your project! I could not find anything commercially to fit my space, so DIY was the only option for me. My locos are all small vs steam.
@bambostarla6259
@bambostarla6259 24 дня назад
@@StanFerris I wanted to make a turntable that sits on a board, and not one that you cut a whole on your layout to fit a well. Also, turntables are quite pricey, even kits, so making one for cheap is also a nice bonus. I would never get the hornby turntable, its to big and clunky for my layout and it takes forever to spin 180*

I purchased this same pole saw today at my local Harbor Freight at a great price... Only $49.95 plus tax. Got it home and easily assembled it for use. It cuts great... but there is an important thing I feel you left out of your review.... How poorly balanced it is. With at least 85% of its weight on the blade/chain end of the pole, and fully extended, this saw becomes a beast to lift and is very difficult to use when reaching upward and outward at a 45-70 degree angle. The only way it is really manageable is when pole is nearly vertical, directly overhead. When retracted to its shortest length, I would say it is pretty easy to use, but not when fully extended.... I would have loved to have seen you actually using it at its full length. Stan, if you can easily handle this saw when its fully extended, you are indeed the "man" as it take a pretty strong guy in very good physical condition to use this one....
@StanFerris
@StanFerris 25 дней назад
Great point! And Arnold Schwarzenegger I am not! 🤣 When not vertical, I agree there's a lot of weight at the top, but I would put it in place somewhat vertically, and then back away so I was not right under what I was sawing and the weight of the cutting head applied the pressure for the cut. Honestly, Even so, I felt more in control than being on a ladder holding out my regular chain saw. Thanks for adding the info!
