Seriously dude, how many people will light up a torch after accidentally left a propane tank leaking gas. Do you realize how stupidly improbable is that?Have you heard of propane ranges? Carbon monoxide, seriously dude? Propane burns pretty clean, you know how many running stoves you'll need to exhaust breathable air?
500 people a year unintentionally die of carbon monoxide poisoning and imagine someone living in a cold climate who decides to use something like this in a little shop not thinking about the dangers. kind of similar to those who use propane cook stoves in tents. It does happen.
Is there a specific type/brand of vulcanized rubber I would need to use in the toaster oven? And what heat setting (degrees) should be used? Thank you very much.
I recommend using silicone spin casting rubber that can be found at Contenti, Rio Grande, Zero-D, and Tekcast. For powder separation I recommend the high durometer rubber that is stiff and doesn't flex while heating. If cutting with a scalpel then the softer rubber is best. Most vulcanize between 325* and 350* F. Most rubber is 1/4 inch thick so figure 15 minutes per layer.
Thanks I understand it’s been 6 years o so Is 2 mm a visible letter on the ring ? You remember something about it or is an average size letter ? Thanks again
As you can see there is a variety of ways to use the clay and the small rings positioning of air breather holes this is a perfect video for folks that are new to this Delft casting process I like it much better than investment casting it’s so much cleaner no water no bubbles Very good video and technique thank you
Great video!! I've been casting bronze mounts for miniature furniture for years but have never had a debubbling machine. I usually put my investment flasks on my fretsaw which vibrates and tap out the bubbles with a stick. I can be hit and miss depending on the thickness of my investment (I don't measure it, I do it by eye). After watching you vodeo I just bought your debubbling machine, can't wait for it to arrive. I'm going to use my compressor in reverse with the machine but am concerned how much pressure I should look to get when I run my compressor. When I use my wax injector I have a precise setting I use and wondered if degassing will be similar...
Watch the investment mixing video by Jason Chandler on Instagram. Look up Portland Jewelry Academy and then scroll down a bit to find the video. We are now mixing based on this video and our casting quality has improved significantly.
@@craigdabler-thediycastings7511 are you gonna be making more holders for sale? I’d like to get a holder and a crucible. Also do you ship to Canada? Thanks
I'm new to pouring. Every time I "pound" the clay into the mold, the clay "cracks" in certain places. It usually doesn't crack or split, where I was using the hammer. When I add more clay, it still happens. Is it possible I'm pounding too hard on the hammer? Thank you in advance.

You can’t use acetylene on platinum, it will contaminate it. Propane and oxygen or hydrogen only. The melting point of platinum is over 1750* C which is much higher than melting steel. All I can say is try melting it and make sure you are wearing number 10 welding goggles when you do it.
@@craigdabler-thediycastings7511 is it OK for gold and silver? Or do I need a different torch? Haha I thought I already had all the stuff to do it.... ive been welding my whole life, I never knew you needed different fuel for jewelry... haha learn something new everyday.... glad you told me before I ruined an ounce ir two of gold or platinum 😆 😂 😆 An oxy/acetylene flame burns at about 3,500C, so definitely hot enough haha
Halli i have a question. I am sand casting a thin ring i made 2sprouts bud the silver don’t want complete the ring it stop half way and everything is neet and clean
Thank U very much for vedio. Plz Can I use the same procece with wax pronge ring? And if I lay the ring in molde it give the same result or only this is the way?
@@craigdabler-thediycastings7511 I'm sorry I wasn't specific, what I wanted to say is that with this technique you can make a name pendant, like the one women wear with their name.
sand casting only has gravity to pull the metal down so if a name plate is too thin or too complex then most likely the metal will solidify before it will fill the void. Sand casting works best with solid shapes that are not less then 1.5 - 2 mm thick.@@neuvillate1823
It needs to be pickled is a solution of about 2 tbsp of Sparex or PH Down mixed in 4 cups of water that is warmed. A crock pot on low works. Just make sure you have ventilation and don't breathe it in. Only use copper to dangle the ring in the solution and no steel.
Once the mixture boils and explodes, is there enough vacuum in the bowl? Do you have any empirical rule to know when is enough time to know until it is enough to degas the flasks? Thanks for your videos!!!!!
Since this video I've really improved my investment mixing after learning from Jason Chandler who owns The Portland Jewelry Academy. He has a video on Instagram under his school name that is fantastic!
Sorry this is so late. I have been experimenting with vacuum on items where it's been difficult to add vents. All the vacuum does is remove air and gases in place of venting.
