Thanks for this! I'm helping my cousin replace hers tomorrow and I'll definitely check that harmonic balancer while I have that panel out. 2002 Eclipse Spyder
Question, Ill take an answer from anyone?? The lower bolt on the alternator, which way is the bolt supposed to come out towards the firewall or in towards the engine(which allows more room) ive seen videos for both? My Daughter's car has the former but the latter makes more sense??
@eramirezjr5461 1 second ago Hey @mikevg101, I actually had to watch the video to make sure due to fact that I no longer have this car. The bottom bolt is pulled towards the engine after removing the nut that holds it in place.
@eramirezjr5461 Thank You, I just ended up putting it back in the way it cane out and that was with the bolt head coming out towards the firewall, it was a bitch!! Lol, I googled it and from the posts I read it was pretty much 50/50 on how it's supposed to come out? Thank You for responding though, I truly appreciate it!! #newsub
@eramirezjr5461 I do have another question if you don't mind, it's been years since I've reinstalled an alternator? When I out it back in, how do I make it tight against the belt? Just push it har & hand tight outwards from the belt(My Brother said to use a pry bar and use that, kind of when your trying to tighten a bicycle chain and you use a small bat or sometjing against the wheel) and then use the tensioner?
@@mikevg101 No problem, first put the belt back in place lining it up on the accessory wheels including the alternator. Make sure you have play room at the tensioner wheel. Your gonna need some help in holding the belt with one finger at the alternator while you adjust the tensioner wheel bolts. NO BATS, NO PRY BARS NEEDED. Just a good wrench and a 14mm socket ok.
I connected everything but now the stereo isn't turning on I tested it with the old one and same thing, I can't tell if its one of the wires or not. Just before i changed everything it was working good on the old one.
Because the speaker wires are dumb the way there done I had to find were the wires came in threw the cab by color and splice and re run from there to the dash on my 2000 eclipse gt
Hey so I have a 2005 Honda accord ex and I just bought two 12s skar audio will I be able to adjust the bass with that radio I just bought one and will the speakers hit hard in the video you said they don’t hit hard
Hey Tyler Meeka, well in the video I only had 1-12 Kicker, a CVX12. The only thing I found disappointing, the lack of Lowpass and Highpass filters. The radio does sound good BUT, you have to use the low pass filters on the amp. Later I discovered that the box I had the CVX12 in was cracking open. So I went and redid the box for upcoming videos. I no longer have the Boss radio or the car for that matter but is still being used without any issues by its new owner. I wasn't to sure why it didn't bang as hard as it did at first until I found a crack vibrating in the box. The radio only provides 2-volts on the preamp outputs. Any more and you'll have to get high end unit. To answer your question, I believe that it can hit hard. It will all depend how you set it up. I still plan to have a twin amp set up. Now I have a Nakamichi head unit and I just purchased a Pioneer to have the option of built in crossovers. Hope this helps!
@@eramirezjr5461 so it will hit hard but not really if that’s what you saying because the 2 12s brand new from skar and I bought the same exact radio you got in the video
@@tylermeeka577 An 05' Accord Ex, big trunk! You should have the panels coming loose with 2-12 inch skars. I never said that it will hit hard but really. What i'm trying to say is that the radio sounds good and it hit hard depending on your setup. You have 2-12 inch skars and all that's needed is the amp. Depending on which skar subs you have, you need a good amp to move those 2 skars. What I was referring about the 2v preamp outputs is that higher end radios come with 4v or even 5v preamp outputs. The higher volts, the less gain you have to use off the amp. Some people use 2v preamps and leave the gain half way., I do that and it sounds great any given day. Trust me, you got radio and subs. Setup the amp properly and it will hit hard.
Oh one more thing, the amp I chose was the Zapco ST-1650XM ll to move my 2-CVX12's but that box didn't fit in the Eclipse. So I went with a single 12 inch sealed box. It hit so hard that the box broke open in case you didn't catch that. If your box is ported, it will rock.
Hey Alex, well, the factory harness is made to connect directly to its factory radio only. If your installing a Pioneer, there is a custom harness available that connects the Pioneer to the factory harness without having to deal with the color coded wiring. Just plug and play. Now if your installing a radio that doesn't make any custom harness for your car, then your only option is to buy the harness at amazon or ebay which ever is cheaper. It might look intimidating but its not. You buy the harness adapter, connect all the wires as color indicates it. Tape them up individually to make sure they don't make contact with one another then connect factory harness plug to the new harness and everything should work. Hope this helps. If any doubts let me know.
Hey William Rowe, this is simple if you are installing an aftermarket unit. All aftermarket unit come with there own harness which is color coded. For this install you will also need the wire harness that connects your radio unit to the factory harness, which is also color coded to match the aftermarket.unit wiring . So match and connect the wires, Green,Purple,Grey and white are for speakers. Blue/Black, Blue are for power options like power antenna or an amp. Yellow, Red and Black are the wires that power on the radio unit so be careful with those wires. I never do Frankenstein setups where I connect the aftermarket radio directly to the factory wiring. Thats a NO NO! Head unit and the Scosche TA02B wiring harness will make it easy. Hope this helps!
Hey Jamie, if your asking about the 4 wire plug, that plug has a tab that you must squeeze in order for it to release the alternator. Look at the back side of the plug, you should see the tab. Hope this helps
so, idk if you’d know. mine has the anti-theft system. if I remove it, and swap it, and want to swap back, will it still work? I have a sticker on my window that says that it won’t work if taken out.
Hey Evan, Good question. Your answer is YES. You can swap to an aftermarket radio and swap it back with the stock radio just as long as it's the original radio that came with your Camry. The sticker implies that the radio will not work if removed and used in another car and vise versa. That only applies to the stock radio. Hope this helped!
Well, you can get that harness if you don't want to snip and connect wiring. Make sure that it's really compatible with a pioneer head unit, if that's what yours installing.
Hey Noah, I no longer have the Alpine but let me tell you, its an awesome unit for a single din. I paid a little over $400 for it and don't regret it at all. I used it in 3 different cars through the years and it never said no. If you find one at a good price and don't mind the single din, get it!
Hey Tony, I don't have the car or radio any longer, I sold it to a friend a few months back. If it helps I can confirm that the radio does have a shuffle feature in the Play Mode. This will play music randomly. Check in the manual, DISC/CD/USB/SD Playback. Hope this helps.
Hey Orlando, NO! The blue wire on the after market harness can be used for the power antenna if the car has one. The blue/white wire is meant for a after market amp and that's if your gonna use one. If not, just tape the ends to make sure they don't ground them self's. Those 2-wires provide a 5 volt (+) signal to accessories you may have and want to add. Hope this helps and stay safe!
Hey Tyris, that blue wire is meant for a power antenna or a amp. Since you have a GT, than you don't need to use it on the antenna cuz its in your rear window. If your not using a second amp, just tape up the end and leave it. My harness had that one and the Blue/White which is the one I used for the factory amp. That blue wire turns my second amp on. Now, the blue wire that's connected on the black coaxial with 4-RCA's, that blue wire goes to your head unit harness. Look at the harness on the radio. You will see a blue and or a blue/white wire. That's where it goes. That's if you got the Metra 70-7003 MITSUBISHI AMP HARNESS.
Hey Bryce, as you know all aftermarket radios come with their own harness. All you have to figure out is which harness do you need to connect that radio to the stock radio harness. That's the wire I used in both the Alpine radio and the Boss. If you have a GT with the Infinity sound system than your harness is Metra 70-7003 Receiver Wiring Harness. The GS use Metra 70-7001. Don't confuse them. One is made for the GT stock amp and the other is not. Hope this helps.
Hello, yes plenty of times. This is a car I don't always drive and most of its time is parked on NYC streets where its guarantied to get dirty. The car has a moon roof and it does not leak. If you have a moon roof problem that leaks. Check the drain ports, they are clogged with dirt and debris. Please let me know if that's what your referring to.
Appreciate the video, will subscribe have a manual myself. Did you encounter a idler pulley between the alternator and AC pulley? because my belt has been loosened. I'm not sure if there is a 2nd pulley besides the tensioner
Hey Jemar, thanks for the subscribe. Now that you that you mentioned it, there was no idler pulley between the alternator and the AC. I worked with the tensioner that's located between the crank pulley and the AC pulley. When you remove the plastic splash guards, make sure to inspect the crank pulley. It is made of 2 pieces and it has a rubber shim that wears out. Hope this helps.
@@eramirezjr5461 Appreciate it, I thought that was the situation with the idler but it had me lost. I actually have to replace the the same piece your taking about the whole harmonic balancer wheel came off. Videos were a big help.
Well, the alternator came from Ace Alternators in California. It arrived with a damaged Voltage Regulator. At times it wouldn't provide the right voltage. I went with a stock alternator. It would've bein nice if it worked but it didn't work out as planned.
i bought a eclipse an the kenwood radio has no sound....me an my friend messed with it it cut on for like a min..then we installed no sound. all the wires are good an connected....what you thinks wrong?
Hey, It all depends what Eclipse you have. All GT models came with a V6 engine and a factory amp that sits underneath the passengers seat. Take a look under that seat and if you see a black metal box, that's the amp. Please check before we can continue.
Thanks for sharing. I'm currently having an issue with the voltage drop, and I wasn't exactly certain that it could be the alternator. I may just try to replace to see if it makes a difference.
Check your ground wires. One is behind the engine passenger side connected to the fire wall and the other is on the driver side, engine to chassis. I replaced both of those cheap braided wires with 4 gauge wiring. Also check the harmonic balancer for wear. If you saw in the previous video, I had to replace my harmonic balancer. Now my cars voltage is good. 14.5v at start up and drops to 13.7v when warmed up. It could be the alternator but check those areas first. Alternators don't break down that easily unless the car had a serious electrical problem or was wet during operation. I hope this helps!
You have specially format videos first to make a car stereo play them off of usb or sd etc! You can research this on youtube. It's cool when you finally get it going.
Hey Sam, well if your referring to the RCA leads, I got it from ebay. I don't remember the sellers id. The power leads are from sky high car audio cable also on ebay.
@@samlikesmusic4063 The black wire I pulled at 8:06 is a wire that only comes with the Eclipse GT for the Infinity sound system. If you have the GT model, look for it, it should be there. If you reach under the passenger seat and feel a metal box, that's the amp. If nothing is there, then you'll have to go with RCA's for your amp install. At 8:06 look at the RCA wiring I added. They are dangling off to the right. Those are for the extra amp I installed. You might have to do the same if you Eclipse doesn't have the Infinity system in it. In my case, I'm fazing out the Infinity system with 2 amps I'm installing using RCA's.
Well, that would depend on the user. I want to keep it simple and just for music. I know that modern cars are coming out with Apple and Android car play, my my car is not one of them. To be honest, the only thing in my car that connects to my Android phone is my dash and rear cams. Simple!
Hey I know it’s late but where did you find that adaptor for the aftermarket radio? Currently my adaptor is too big and the eclipse wiri harness wont connect properly
Not my unit. It claims to support SD cards. It don't! My unit supports Micro SD only. There is a difference between SD and Micro SD cards. One is bigger than the other. Till this day I haven't seen any SD slots in my unit. Micro SD yes!
Yes, the brackets in this video are the factory brackets. The old ones that come with this car. I say that because I had to buy mines online. The former owner didn't realize how important they are and threw the the original ones out. If you have them, don't throw them out. There very useful.
Hey JC Flash, yes the radio unit comes with a back camera. Be advised that the connecting wires are oddly short and your gonna need some RCA extensions for it ok.
great video, when I was trying to install my new stereo the old one had a black cable doing all the way back behind the glove box and I can't figure out what its for it was also screwed into the old one the eclipse model I have is a 2003 gs if you could tell me what its for I would be extremely thankful
Hey Julie, by the way you described it, it sounds like a ground wire. The 3rd gen Eclipse did not come with a ground wire in the stock harness. If the wire you found was screwed on to the chassis of the old radio, my bet is that's a ground wire. When I got to work on my Eclipse, I didn't find a wire like that. I had to create a new ground for my install. If you have a 12v voltage test light, connect one end to that black wire and in the stock harness look for a solid blue wire, connect the other end of the 12v tester to that blue wire. If its a ground wire, your tester will light up like a Christmas tree. Hope this helps.
