2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Custom Radio Install 

Hey Zeke Burger, Now, If you have a GT Model and installed an after market wiring harness meant for a stock amp, there is no need to worry of those 4 wires. White/Black-Power Antenna, Black/Yellow-Dimmer, Green/White-Illumination, Red/White-!2v Constant but it would be better if I knew what Eclipse Model your working with.

@@BlazeShotIt Ok, the amp outputs will be used for 2 aftermarket amps im working to install in my car. One of those amps will replace the stock amp. If you still have the stock amp underneath the pass. seat, you will need a Metra 70-7003 Radio Wiring Harness or Scosche MI03B. This will ease your installation as it did mine. It costs around $13-$15. Make sure the stock amp works and your good to go.

Wow, that's not good. Let me tell you that passengers with open drinks whether its bottled water or can soda, its a NO NO in a Eclipse GT due to its amp location. I got into a fight with the wife because she had spilled half a bottle of water on the pass. seat. No damage but now she understands. More than likely its blown. if anything, on ebay there a few of stock amps for about $100. Look at your options, 1-you can buy stock amp, 2-you can buy the amp bypass wiring, 3-install a second amp and do your own wiring. I saw the amp bypass wiring on ebay in which I thought of buying incase of an emergency. I have a second amp installed in my GT. It sounds awesome. Anyway try to get a 12v tester or a test light so you can check if voltage is reaching the amp. Also, did you connect the blue wire to your new radio? That's the signal wire that turns the amp on. @@rXTrLEGENDz If you install an aftermarket amp, just run some RCA wires from radio to amp. Then run wiring from amp to speakers. Its not hard, just time consuming but it can be done. I have a aftermarket installed in my car for the 12 inch Kicker.

WOW, NOT GOOD! The only (3) remedies for that is to (1) -replace the stock amp, stock music wiring and fuses if any. Now, in a cases like this, being that im used to working with systems, (2) -I would run my own RCA Amp wiring from the head unit to the back of the rear seats. Install 1 or 2 amps back there. Then run 12 or 14 gauge speaker wiring from the amp to the speakers. It can take a several hours to do. The stock wiring can be worked with, just as long that you have the wiring diagram. Stock wiring color codes are not like the aftermarket wiring. Im pretty sure that all the speaker wires are intact, its just figuring out what wire goes to what. (3) - You can bypass what used to be the Infinity amp wiring thus connecting the head unit directly to the speakers. I do believe that the former owner was trying to do that. I will try to get the wiring diagram to assist you. Now my question is, do you have power in the head unit?

Also, did you check to see if the factory amp was still intact? Its under the pass. seat.

@@eramirezjr5461 Thank you for the reply, the stock amp was removed, the white connector that's plugs into has a couple wires still intact but the rest are cut and have aftermarket wires attached to them. I can get a head unit to work using the aftermarket adapter, you know green positive to green positive and so on, but then I have to take the aftermarket wires and connect to the green + and - and so on. It just doesn't feel right. I can post a video on my channel tomorrow so you can see. Any help is appreciated. I do plan on putting an amp in the car and that jazz.

The time clock still works, its not related to the radio or amp wiring.

I have a gs with just the cd player infinity radio idk if ur familiar with my stock radio but if you are did u need a wiring harness . What harness did you use.?

@@stephenbautista4575 Well the GS and GT use the same wiring harness. I used the Scosche MI03B from Amazon.

Hey Julie, by the way you described it, it sounds like a ground wire. The 3rd gen Eclipse did not come with a ground wire in the stock harness. If the wire you found was screwed on to the chassis of the old radio, my bet is that's a ground wire. When I got to work on my Eclipse, I didn't find a wire like that. I had to create a new ground for my install. If you have a 12v voltage test light, connect one end to that black wire and in the stock harness look for a solid blue wire, connect the other end of the 12v tester to that blue wire. If its a ground wire, your tester will light up like a Christmas tree. Hope this helps.

Hey, It all depends what Eclipse you have. All GT models came with a V6 engine and a factory amp that sits underneath the passengers seat. Take a look under that seat and if you see a black metal box, that's the amp. Please check before we can continue.

Hey Tyris, that blue wire is meant for a power antenna or a amp. Since you have a GT, than you don't need to use it on the antenna cuz its in your rear window. If your not using a second amp, just tape up the end and leave it. My harness had that one and the Blue/White which is the one I used for the factory amp. That blue wire turns my second amp on. Now, the blue wire that's connected on the black coaxial with 4-RCA's, that blue wire goes to your head unit harness. Look at the harness on the radio. You will see a blue and or a blue/white wire. That's where it goes. That's if you got the Metra 70-7003 MITSUBISHI AMP HARNESS.

Well, that would depend on the user. I want to keep it simple and just for music. I know that modern cars are coming out with Apple and Android car play, my my car is not one of them. To be honest, the only thing in my car that connects to my Android phone is my dash and rear cams. Simple!

Yes, you can find the bracket at Ebay for $13.00. Model name American International MITK890 . the wiring harness was also from ebay for $16.00 Hope that helps.

@@jonahsandoval_6523Well, I do recommend that you buy the wires. It makes the installation easier and cleaner without damaging the stock wiring in the car. I still have my wiring setup like that and if I want to install a different radio, I just use that same harness. Its cheap and easy to install.

The stock brackets I got them on Ebay and the install kit was from Amazon. NO, they don't come with screws, BUMMER!

Connect the ground to chassis. There is one or two places you can connect the ground with a screw that's already in place. All you have todo is look for those screws, there in there.

@@frankcofield4571 This Wednesday or Thursday I will be working on my car and I will get that to you ok. I didn't have any problems connecting the ground wire, in fact , the voltage meter on my dash is connected to that same ground. If you had a 12v tester which are cheaply available. It can make any job easy. Anyway, I do remember that there is a metal sub frame with screws, I'm gonna check on that, its in there.

Hey juan contreras, which wire are referring to? Which model of Eclipse do you have?

If you have an Eclipse GT, your car has a factory amp and its under the Pass seat. You must order the aftermarket plugs separately and it comes in a set of two or three plugs. One plug for the RS models and two plugs for the GT models. One of those plugs is for the factory amp which is Black. The plugs you need is METRA 70-7003. On ebay their like $10. This should help the "NO MUSIC"

Ok, so you installed an aftermarket radio with out adding plugs and your having problems with the amp. Am I correct?

Hey Sam, well if your referring to the RCA leads, I got it from ebay. I don't remember the sellers id. The power leads are from sky high car audio cable also on ebay.

@@samlikesmusic4063 The black wire I pulled at 8:06 is a wire that only comes with the Eclipse GT for the Infinity sound system. If you have the GT model, look for it, it should be there. If you reach under the passenger seat and feel a metal box, that's the amp. If nothing is there, then you'll have to go with RCA's for your amp install. At 8:06 look at the RCA wiring I added. They are dangling off to the right. Those are for the extra amp I installed. You might have to do the same if you Eclipse doesn't have the Infinity system in it. In my case, I'm fazing out the Infinity system with 2 amps I'm installing using RCA's.

Because the speaker wires are dumb the way there done I had to find were the wires came in threw the cab by color and splice and re run from there to the dash on my 2000 eclipse gt

At first power on it was Jory Boy and switched over to Justin Quiles- Me Curare. My music folder holds a large variety of the best music. Holding at 3k songs.
