Wow, this is a brilliant film, you can look for the photos of the concorde on Google so I live between Cleethorpes and Grimsby in Lincolnshire, just like 26 mins (15 miles) away from my village
I was there on that day, typical British weather. I stood in the boot of my Ford Cortina to get a better view. It was a great day and made me proud :-)
Used to go there in the early sixties, four ship Vulcan scramble to start the show, lots of display flying and static, one of the longest bars I've ever seen all for a fiver a car in 1963!
that was a fantastic show ive still got the official VHS ,the F4 FGR2 XT914 displayed by Mark Mainwaring (navigator) & Archie Liggett (pilot) is on display in a HAS at Raf Wattisham she looks beautiful
Sadly the pilot flying this victor unintentionally that day has passed away a few months ago. Slowly all the knowledge and experience is dying out when it comes to these planes. Maintenance is too expensive and spares hard to come by, so it’s unlikely they’ll ever fly again.
The co-pilot “froze” when asked by the pilot to reduce power… he called out twice to the co-pilot, with no response. The old girl was determined to fly one last time.
that was a great airshow & sadly one of the last for the Raf Phantom FGR2 which is on display at Raf Wattisham in a HAS,awesome diplay by VF-74 F-14 & amazing sound if i remember correctly, ive still got the official VHS of that show & many others from Mildenhall,Lakenheath,Upper Heyford,Bentwaters,Woodbridge & Alconbury all great shows back then
they were all great airshows i first went in the early 80's & last show i went to was 2001 def my fav aircraft was the EE Lightning, F4 Phantom & Vulcan & Victor displays & obv not forgetting the SR-71
Wonderful memories of Elvington! The F3 or GR4 was always the highlight for me and it was a sad day when it ceased along with our other smaller shows. Thanks for posting!
I was there that day, cycled in from Grimsby. Was soaked by the time I got there, but that never bothered me as I was there to say goodbye to my favourite aircraft, what a show. 👍
I remember seeing one during a wet day at then RAF Abingdon airshow, it was a marvellous sight, not to mention the noise. Out of all the airshows I went to, it's that wet soggy day that I remember the most.
