Many people remember binbrook , " the last show " This is Classic Footage from the 1987 show , if you were one of the lucky few to get soaking wet on the day you will have some great memories of this display. enjoy :-)
I remember seeing one during a wet day at then RAF Abingdon airshow, it was a marvellous sight, not to mention the noise. Out of all the airshows I went to, it's that wet soggy day that I remember the most.
Back when the UK actually had a proper airforce, we had Shackleton's, Lightning's, Phantom's, Bucaneer's, Tornado's, Jaguar's, Nimrod's, Hawk's, Vulcan's and Victor's. Today we hardly have anything :(
Used to sit at the end of the runway at Lossiemouth when these were doing circuits at night, those engines and the blue flames coming out of the exhausts was something special indeed.....
Living as a child under the final approach at Woodford in the late 60s/early 70s this clip takes me back...used to hear the Shack coming long before it came into view over the house, and then of course there was the Vulcan that at the time I wasnt impressed with as it scared the shit out of me making all that noise.....strange how things turned out all these years later.
What a lovely piece of film of a beautiful looking and sounding aircraft. If only we had a Shackleton on the circuit today - and all those fabulous Lightnings in the background. I never managed to get to Binbrook, so thanks for this marvellous clip. Steve.
