We're a family business and have been building mattresses in San Diego since 1968. We started out as a tiny little factory near downtown San Diego serving just a few local shops. We found our niche serving the hotel industry in the 80's and 90's. We figured if we can build a great mattress for hotel why not build them for the public as well. So in 1996 we opened up Mattress Makers to the public and now serve San Diego with mattresses made to last at half the price of other mattress stores because we build them ourselves.
Bought a temper pedic probably about 12.or so years ago. It is on a adjustable frame. One of the sides is seriously collapsing. Very depressing because this was a very very expensive bed.
I have a question, why will your mattress shrink in a few months? I bought some split queen mattress set from Amazon and it shrunk 7 inches. What caused that? And will it continue to do so?
Trying so desperately to find negative things to say about this mattress like "it's too warm", "too many layers for things to go wrong" and, "a 250 pound person and this edge material weakens after 10 years".... no subscribe, no like, just buh-bye.
There can be harmful chemicals and foams yes. However I don’t feel this is making you sick. As Americans most of us are sick because of the foods we eat. The foods we eat are harming our health wayyyy more than a mattress is. So before that’s in order we probably shouldn’t worry about what we’re sleeping on. Also There’s harmful foams in our couches, cars. Etc but nothing worse than the food you probably ate for breakfast. Get your exorcise, eat right you should feel 1000% better.
I have the shorter version of this mattress (this is the thick one for heavier folks) in a Luxury firm. I am pleased with it. I have watched a lot of tear down videos from you and others on RU-vid -- after I bought my Saatva. From what I have seen, I do think Saatva mattresses are well made and they do stand behind their product. I must say after watching these videos, I am amazed at how many manufacturers take a perfectly good spring based mattress and then top it off with 4+ inches of foam. No wonder why everyone throws those mattresses out after 3-5 years...
This is currently going to be my 3rd mattress in the last 12 months. They keep sagging. And I even dedicated myself to sleep in the corner to see if it wouldn’t sag and it still sagged.
Ok.. I tried a ton of mattress' and Kinda settled on a 789 L&P QE system from a local OEM. But Im curious where would you go from here? I feel like I kinda prefer the less dense coil system as it feels like an older style bed.. "Open coil "1.5". Or maybe I just haven't tried enough systems? as far as im aware, QE is 13.75 top and bottom, 16 gauge center and sides. 589 center coil config not counting 100 + 100 Quantum edge.
Will swing into the showroom, live in SD and surprised to see the video that actually speaks about the edge support. Very helpful and spot on regarding the dreaded 1/4 of the bed I occupy while sleeping on the edge while my wife enjoys a pillow fortress with the other 3/4th. Wish I would have found you earlier.
Have an almost 3 yo Sterns&Foster Cassatt Ultra Plush EPT Queen. Slight dip where we lay all night but nothing serious. I am an edge side sleeper and the edge support is awesome. We rotate it every 6-8 months (heavy). It bends and recovers well on the adjustable base. Wife Unit is still happy so all is good. At 66+ yo, our hip and shoulder arthritis bothers us from time to time, but as this is also true on vacations, I don't think the mattress is to blame. 10/10 rating from our diva Yorkie, 8/10 from us (price and weight). Very well constructed. I miss our '80s Waveless Waterbed.
Hey Pablo. You say a 6" slab of dunlop settles, making it firmer on one side. How can I tell which is the less firm side? I will want that softer side facing upwards. Thanks!
When I assembled our SN bed I was quite amused and annoyed to see the air mattresses. I thought, “how did we spend so much money for a couple air mattresses?”😂 and some foam. Well, we have had it for 23 years and no problems. It’s comfortable enough. I guess amortized over 23 years it was worth it.
Mine is 14 years old and I’ve had severe night sweats since I had covid almost 4 years ago. Its going to the dump next week. Im getting a 3 inch shikibuton.
I was told its hard to get so thats why its so expensive. Isn’t it more comfortable for big people like the average overweight American? I’m dumping my western bed next week and replacing it with a 3 inch cotton and wool shikibuton. I’m tired of not sleeping well and have always slept better on the floor, camping etc. Thanks for the video.
Does latex have the density and compression ratings that foam has? If not, can you give us the comparable density and ILD of latex? That would be helpful. Thanks
as for me, to place extreme-soft pure Queen-sized latex mattress on Bedsprings / Boxsprings (high-profile) is for SEX support. more bouncier, more merrier. slat/platform based bed are quite dull for sex. need much bounciness to add spice on sex preferences.
Rather than Luxury firm, I Bought the stiffer Firm saafta for longevity, and by a year or so, the wife sleeps in a Hole, she moves to the other side of the mattress, and end up rolling down hill back to the Hole. Mattress is about 3 years I guess, and going out the Door, and not for another Saafta, but the old traditional double sided Hotel mattress, that can be rotated and flipped, I expected tripple the life.
I bought the queen hybrid. Comes on Tuesday. I’m hoping for the best. I’ve done so much research on this bed. Seems nobody can please everyone. Have to find out for myself. However, I do hear more good than bad. I’m expecting great things out of this bed. Having a hard time understanding how they are rolling up a bed and shipping it, guess we’ll find out shortly. Afraid the compression will ruin it.
I am Dutch and we do it different. In general our matresses are much less thick and we care more about individual preferences. That means that both partners often have 2 different mattresses but with the same height. Also the bed base is individual. It can be adjustble slatted bases with adjustable firmness for both partners, or a disk base bed ( you probably don't know). It is important to have mattresses what you can turn. We have over the both mattresses a splitking cover mattress from memory foam so it feels like you have one mattress together. We also have 2 different duvets so each sleeps based on individual preferences.
