My brand new Minn Kota would work fine on manual mode but spot lock would not work. Motor would go crazy spinning around and back and forth and would not stay correctly in one spot until finally it would shut down out of spot lock mode. Minn Kota tech support was a waste of time. Finally took it to a certified repair center and tech took the cover off the head and found too much power cable looping around the gps receiver in the head which interfered with it receiving a proper signal from satellite. He cut the extra power cable loop out, spliced it and it has worked perfectly ever since. It was the second time for him seeing this issue and it took him forever to figure it out the first time.

Captian...please read till the end. When you have three 12 volt lifepo4 batteries in series it is imperative that they all have an equal charge. Since each battery has its own internal BMS, if one is lower than the other and the voltage of one falls below the low volt protection in the BMS the discharge mosfet will shut off with that particular battery that has the low voltage. The other two may be fine, but if any battery in the string has a discharge mosfet shutdown it will render the entire string dead. For Parallel batteries you would still have some power but reduced capacity. In series battery set ups, it will render the entire pack dead. When the system died...You may have read voltage at the trolling motor due to 2 different factors. When the low voltage protection came on it may have been under load (which will drag down voltage during use) and when the load was removed the battery BMS may have reset momentarily allowing you to read some voltage across the three. But as soon as you try to power up again the low voltage protection of the low battery kicks in again. The other way you may read voltage is that even when the discharge charge mosfet disconnects, with a multimeter there can still be ghost voltage read due to the way voltage is clamped through mosfets. it can be very misleading. The fact that you said one of your NOCO charger legs wasnt working is a huge clue and points to a very likely scenario of one battery being much lower than the others which will cut the entire string. I had three 12 volt batteries on my golf cart years ago and discovered the same thing the hard way...just like you. Except I had to push my golf cart home..lol. Since then I have been involved in various lithium batteries and learned a ton. Check my channel for some of the details on lithium batteries on boats and Golf carts. I just did a complete rewire of 920ah of Epoch batteries and Victron systems on my boat. Look for an old video regarding switching from Dakota to Epoch 36 volt golf cart batteries and why. I could probably get you an Epoch 36 volt battery with bluetooth etc. That way you would have a single battery to contend with and no series connections, less wiring, simpler charging etc as well as Bluetooth to monitor. It would be a good winter project. The only issue is fitting it in your boat. Let me know if you think one would fit. The dimension are on the Epoch batteries website for the single 36v 100ah battery.

@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 woa cap this is the most explanation comment of my problem, I've read it all and I think you're a 100% right about one of them going low and giving me false info on the because of the B. MS. And thank you so much, captain for explaining this to me. It really helps me figure out my problem and you have hit it on the nail. Actually you need to measure the voltage while the battery has a significant load on it.... measure voltage while heater is running to see how low the voltage goes Capt. A week battery will cause the voltage to dip low while pulling amps with the heater.

The other thing is to “load” test is to use the amp probe around the cable as the battery is under load to see the rate of declination…plot it by the minute, and see if they each perform the same. I used to load test utility battery banks…the important point is to plot and see if the curves come out the same under load…also, deplete them as much as you can without going to zero…to see when they “gone up”. It will be a knee in the curve and then shut the test down. The load cells were much different size for obvious reasons but what you’re doing is correct
