I really loved the way you explained this and I can so relate! I seem to become totally invested in whatever I am interested in and want to collect them all!! And I don’t judge that except to the point where it is irresponsible financially or I am not using what I have. There is such a rush in acquiring that new beautiful thing but then I must use it!! 😅
That pen is 😍 , I found the Jowo flex nibs bouncy but not flexible enough for me, I want to get an Ebonite feed for a few of my flex nibs from the flexible nib factory, Looking forward to seeing what you have to say about the other pens as I have ordered a few of the same pens
I have owned two Custom 823s that I loved. And made the mistake of selling them. I just ordered two V126 pens and some extra medium nibs to grind into small itallics. I'm looking forward to trying them out
You can fit that FPR #6 Ultra Flex nib on a bunch of other pens that support #6 size nibs. I've had it on quite a few pens in the past. I currently have it on a Noodlers Konrad atm. It's my favourite so far out of the ones I've tried. The pen is quite affordable and has a good ink capacity being that it is a piston fill pen. It's a really good fit for such an ink-hungry nib. PS: I really enjoyed your video and love the colorverse ink you used. It's definitely going to be the next ink I purchase. Edit: Regarding the feed. The FPR Himalayas use an ebonite feed which promote better ink flow than plastic feeds. The Noodlers Konrad also has an ebonite feed which is another reason why it's a good alternative to the Himalaya. More than likely you will encounter ink flow issues if you transfer the nib onto a pen with a plastic feed.
I love your handwriting, it's beautiful! That Sun Wukong ink had picked my interest before but I'm not that much into pink-leaning reds... I guess I'll see more images/videos/reviews about it before I make a decision. And also thank you for sharing your thoughts about consumerism, they really made me think about how I want to manage this hobby! :)
Thank you for the comment! The base color Sun Wukong looks quite deep when writing with a stub nib. I believe some vendors like Vaness pens sell samples of this ink if you want to see it for yourself!
I agree with you on the consumerism. I also went down the makeup influencer rabbit hole. And I too have found the Im having the same feelings now with fountian pens and inks. I try not to watch so many videos on them and tell myself i have enough already.
Although my v126 has the best m nib ever! The grip section bites into the tips of my fingers So I need to grab it near the treads. Amazing pen. Easy to clean. Fun to ink.
I have a 823 and I can’t describe how perfect this pen is for everyday use. Right out of the box-not perfect, but i swear they have a “break in” period..after that, the most perfect pen one could own.
Strange mismatch of color to bottle label. I wonder what prompted the names vs color.. doesn’t seem really evoke each artist’s music. Vivaldi wrote Rites of Spring.. Strauss wrote some of the most beautiful arias.. and on and on. Wagners music was more heavy handed. Thank you for the swatches. Interesting black sheen on some of the inks.
I do not have a custom 823, but I LOVE my Asvine V126s!!! I've got all 3 nib sizes and all 6 colors! They work amazing right out of the box and are some of my favorites!
When you were comparing the Nautilus to the Schuylkill I was reminded about something I read on a pen forum. there are a lot pens that are great writers that are economical like a Preppy, but more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean a pen is a better writer. At the higher price points you are paying for looks, better materials, and more ergonomically friendly pens.
Definitely! That’s why I consider Schuylkill a very good value, not only the nib is essentially the same as the higher end pens in Nahvalur’s line-up, but the depth and quality of the resin is also very good.
Have you tried flossing the paper from between the tines of your Prera? Where did you find samples of Birmingham inks? Loved seeing all your new pens! we almost match on the 742 - I have a soft fine medium 🙂
Thank you for the comment. Do you mean flossing to remove the paper? Yes, I got rid of the paper after it got caught in between the tines, but I was surprised it happened since I haven't experienced this level of scratchiness recently. The BPC inks are from the subreddit /penswap. The seller's ID is Flaky-Tie-1985.
@@inknotes-jess they must have gotten new colors since our swap last year! Sorry the flossing/removing of paper didn't fix the Prera 😔 if cleaning and switching inks doesnt help, a bit of smoothing can be surprisingly effective. (I actually did this to my 3776 when it arrived and it helped immensely! 🤫)
That MZG is a stunner! I only have one MZ, but this is tempting! My 3776 SF was almost unusable out of the box. I tried Lamy and Waterman inks, before I discovered that Iroshizuku works well. I know of several people who gave up on the SF nib. Although most experienced users will say that breaking in a pen isn't a thing, when it comes to this nib, I disagree. Pelikan line widths and ink flow are quite generous imo. I'm a lefty and need drier inks with Pelikan pens to avoid an inky hand and smudged writing. The marbled colors on the M2xx are usually very beautiful. I have a soft spot for them. But I prefer bigger pens like the Estie OS. I enjoyed your comparison.
Yes. I would love to see you unbox and write with Leonardo. You and I started our fountain pen journey at the same time. I just purchased my first gold nib, Pilot Vanishing Point. I too want a Leonardo, I need to save for it. Rachelle in Seattle
Lovely Leonardo to add to your collection! Is that your first Leonardo ever? XD I have tons of Leonardo’s, they’re probably my favorite Italian pens to collect! It’s so true that they are such wet writers, if you got the gold nib, it writes even wetter. As for your JHerbin ink, those inks are almost always drier inks. I could tell from your scribble right away since it’s laying less ink and then the shade of color was lighter because one of your words didn’t get as much ink from the nib to the paper. It’s a drier flowing ink in that Pelikan dupe, which I can only assume is a normal ord drier flowing writer. You may want to get pilot brown ink to use in there 😊
it was so nice to meet you and hear a bit about your pens :) i received my pilot 742, platinum 3776, and sailor 1911s in the mail about a week ago (all purchased used). I am excited to hear what you think about them and which nibs you got!
I love your collection. I think it’s quite reasonable and thoughtful. Yes, I would love to see you unbox your new pens. I also have the Nahvalur Nautilus Lavender Dreams and loving it as well. I’ve been on a Nahvalur frenzy of late.
Oh my. If you think you have too many fountain pens, I'm really in trouble! I have worked my way up from "I would never pay $20 for a fountain pen! That's outrageous!!" to "$200 is such an amazing deal for a Urushi pen! It's really very reasonable." through many pens in a very short period of time. Ha ha. Best of luck with your new pens when they arrive!
Thanks for your comment and I can totally relate! It’s so fun to find a hobby with such a long history, and definitely nothing like anything I was into before.❤
