I knew it. I knew hans wasn't evil. I knew he was just misunderstood and just wanted to be loved. But i also felt there was more then just going after whst he wanted. He probably had a reason.
This is fantastic.. Comedy, I think it is the most difficult to do comedy (I've tried once and drama is much easier)..I admit I was a terrible actor comedy, drama or even charades.
Richard E Grant had to turn down the role of the Sherriff on Nottingham in Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves before Rickman was offered it. So it's interesting to see them both in the same scene here.
I've never seen this before, such genius. The amount of Top Notch British Actors that Victoria Wood could summon at any given moment to appear in her parodies etc is just a testiment to how bloody good she was! RIP Victoria you were a Legend!
Echoing other comments here, I think the idea is that people (or most people, anyway) think in terms of practical motivations; they aren't generally motivated by Evil™ in some abstract sense. They may do things that we determine to be evil as a means to said practical end, but the point, as an actor (or a writer, for that matter) is to spend less time trying to "evil it up" with your characters and more time thinking about how they think and feel in regard to their agenda.
It's too scary that so many viewers of this brilliant parody, those who didn't grow up with the humour of Victoria Wood's comic genius, can only visualise British actors such as Imelda Staunton in one role she played,ie Dolorus Umbridge. Rickman is seen as doing himself down, by the same crowd, because he was in Die Hard etc and in this he's romping around in high camp. America has never had the rep theatre system, so for one writer to have her own couterie of friends who'd drop everything at a moment's notice to appear in her "next big thing" is a step too far for them to understand. Tough titties! We get it and we love it. This will stand as a testament to the brilliance of all concerned. 💖
This is actually a very smart way of thinking if you are acting as the villian. Villains in real life don’t see them selves as villains so you want to have the mind set that your not playing a villian your just playing an ordinary character
