Journey beyond the noise of everyday life! Overlanding, hiking, kayaking, biking, exploring, and generally just enjoying the outdoors whenever and wherever life takes you.
Love all your videos, but this one was special. It had so much packed in there. You need to introduce your new hiking buddy (I do think I saw Roo later on. Stone fire tower, all those rocks, I was holding my breath, they seemed just as much a challenge as the rocks when you are driving. I was so nervous they would move and would be so easy for an injury. Whew! The views were spectacular and thanks to your hubs for getting video of the campground set-up. It just added another layer of feeling like viewers are right there with you. Maybe sometime a view of the eats involved? LOL Fantastic!
@debbigilbert9464 Thank you! The German shepherd is Reacher's dog Kanen. He is such an awesome hiking and traveling dog. Bill definitely is urging me to do more in camp and with cooking, so we will see if I can take up that challenge. Glad I can still take you with us on adventures via video!
@timschall8416 Thanks! Definitely a fun trip, though I'm not sure my traveling companions necessarily loved the hike as much as I did. It was too beautiful not to enjoy!
Grandma actually had some of her first challenging obstacles coming from the other direction on Union Springs. She came up the ledges. I can't wait to see your video on it!
@PapawGrandmaAdventures Union Springs was awesome, and some of my biggest challenge for obstacles as well. I bet driving up it was even more of a challenge than driving down. Bravo!
Yes. It's been great so far. Much quicker and more efficient than filling each tire separately. Our original compressor also struggled not to overheat on 37 inch tires, but the Morrflate does not. It also feels solidly built, but we will see how it does over time.
@@DefiantOffroadWe have driven Canyon Rim before but didn't have time this trip as our main goal was Union Springs in VA. I hope some day to go back and film it along with Douglas Falls and the Olson Tower as I enjoyed that experience and would love to share it with others. We are always looking for new areas to explore if you have any recommendations. We enjoy watching your videos. Maybe someday we will see you on the trail.
Back in the mind 80’s you could drive the entire FS13 in a regular car because we did a little 2 night MTB camping trip from Davis through Blackwater Falls SP, taking the loop on FS13 back to RT33 to Davis. Then later the upper part near Blackwater SP got washed out from a hurricane and they never graded it and re-gravel the road. I took the family in 2007 in our LR3 with factory lockers and played with the Jeeps. The stair steps in and out of the creek and getting new pin strips from the rhododendrons. Fun little loop. Thanks for sharing and the memories.
@@dervonwilder9695 Thanks for sharing those memories! I love hearing all the stories and history on the trails we drive and places we visit. Hope you are still getting out to explore and making new memories along the way.
So glad you enjoyed it! Part of my mom's job when I was growing up included telling stories to kids, and it left me with a love of storytelling. Bill and I are hoping to visit your neck of the woods some day, though transporting the Jeeps that far might be a challenge. So much great stuff to explore. Maybe someday!
Awesome set up. We've had 2 trips to Blackwater Falls cancelled due to weather in the past 2 years :( One time it was ice in April and then a tropical storm last fall. We'll get there one day.
So sorry to hear the weather has cancelled your previous plans. Definitely beautiful area with great little gems like Blackwater Falls, Douglas Falls, and Lindy Point (just to name a few). I'm sure you will get there one day!
From our experience, the first part of the trail, where it's easy, is where you really have to pay attention. People come cruising around those narrow turns.
You are absolutely correct. People definitely drive too quickly along the easy part of the road. It's a shame because they miss so much of the beauty around them by driving like they are on a city street.
We have done Medano Pass in both directions It is a very fun trail and nice scenery. But rest assured, the sand will cause you problems if you aren’t prepared…..
Definitely. That sand will surprise an unexpecting driver, especially if you don't air down and drive just fast enough to stay afloat. Did you find that you enjoyed going one way over the other after driving it both ways?
In 2011 I did Poughkeepsie. I missed the turn to the wall and ended up driving the bypass. Didn't know it at the time, only knew I somehow missed the wall. I've wondered if my accidental trail eventually opened as a bypass and apparently it did. Three years later :-)
That entire area is so beautiful that it would be a shame to miss it just because of a little thing called the wall. We enjoyed the bypass, but Bill is adamant he is going to drive the wall the next time he is out there. Enjoy your adventures!
@offroaddetour An adventure indeed. Sometimes the lesser known trails are more of an adventure because you don't know what to expect around the next corner.
@@timschall8416 so glad you are enjoying them! It does take time to create these, but I'm always amazed at what I see in the videos as I edit that I may not have noticed at the time, and that (and the positive comments from people like you) makes the time to create so worthwhile.
Thanks for joining us! Today finds us driving a few lesser known trails on the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway. Just keep an eye out for the errant turtle and the creepy house.
@@MinorCarvajal-no5os you might have to beware of snow that time of year, but I'm sure it will still be beautiful! If you have time and the road is open, you might also want to look up Zapata Falls. It's not far from the Great Sand Dunes National Park side of this trail.
@PapawGrandmaAdventures it definitely is! It reminds me of Sinking Creek (KY): short, beautiful, with just enough technical to keep Bill happy. Bill thought he saw your jeep in Virginia (Flagpole/Reddish knob) over the 4th of July holiday. Were you both down that way?
Been watching all your videos. Really enjoy them. I dont want to be one of those that criticizes people's hard work making these videos, but if i could make an observation. The background audio is too close to the narration levels. It absolutely could be my hearing but its difficult to hear the narration clearly. I really do enjoy all of your videos though! Im heading to the KAT in a couple of weeks. Your videos have helped me prepare and get excited for my trip. Thank you.
@dhilt00 Thanks so much for your input! I greatly appreciate it. I definitely need to invest in mics and a computer to improve the editing and sound ( hopefully, some day soon). So glad the videos have been helpful for the KAT. Let us know if you have any questions. Enjoy your adventure!
I remember moving to Charleston in 1999 and it taking years for the name of this park to settle on me.. still quite hasn't actually but I moved on .... only place my whole life I've ever caught a fish tho
@MrGST360 Thanks for sharing your memory of this place. It is definitely a name that catches your attention. Hopefully you've found other beautiful places like this wherever life has taken you.
@timschall8416 Absolutely creepy indeed! And they were all over that one area. I'm actually not a big fan of spiders, but the best way to overcome your fear is to face it. Literally. Right?
Thanks for joining us on a more laid back day exploring some easy trails on the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway, a couple of charcoal furnaces, and another cave. Enjoy!
This is beautiful! Moving from Southern California to South Central PA and researching my trips a year out hahaha, love this video!!!! You just got a new subscriber!!
@joshuawadsworth5050 Thanks for subscribing! Pennsylvania has a lot of great, hidden gems, and we hope to get back there to explore more of them. A huge contrast to southern California, but I hope you enjoy it!
@craiglowery4427 This pass was one of my unexpected favorites so far in Colorado, and the history just makes it that much better. So glad you enjoyed it!
@@amatueroverlanding4361 definitely lots of good options down there depending on the challenge you are looking for. Our favorite sections have been from Callies down to Big South Fork, as well as Hard 11 and Hensley. But we still have several hard sections yet to drive. Enjoy!
@DefiantOffroad I would highly recommend a visit out that way. Kentucky has some awesome trails, including the KAT and DBBB, and adding new trail is a huge plus given closures elsewhere. Thanks for highlighting so many good trails out east in your videos, and I hope you enjoy wherever your next adventure takes you!
