Woodturning - I've been turning since 1999 and became a full time turner in 2012 after serving 24 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. I'm known for my inlay/resin production work which makes me unique in the woodturning community.
My main source of wood comes from reclaimed logs and burls.
Some of the items I will cover on my channel include one of a kind inlayed bowls, epoxy and wood bowls, pepper and salt mills, cutting/serving boards including epoxy and other related wood turned items.
I love the profile of this piece. I always look at the wood first, and the maple never disappoints, especially the pencil line spalted piece. The black pearl with crystal ice white is a winner of a combination. Beautiful piece,Jim. Please take care of your health. Cheers!!
I'd let it sit down inside the recessed opening of the bowl. If it sits on top of the bowl and is just slightly smaller, you risk it looking like it doesn't fit right.
2nd video in and already my new favorite channel. Coming from Australia, who cares how you pronounce "Banksia" when you produce such good work. Love your work bud
Love the sparking black colour and how it looks gold when lite up . Glad one of the flower patterns from those cactus made it to the end :) Hope all goes well with your knees!! I have arthritis I feel your pain ;)
Obviously you craft however you want to craft, but if you already know that you're going to make a vase before you pour, why not add a spacer and save yourself some materials and work?
That Designer Epoxy is really something . So beautiful . I am waiting for my first as I type this . Can't wait . This piece seemed to cause a few issues but you masterly over came them . Awesome job !
Beautiful work Jim. I appreciate you showing the troubles. For your glue block on the bottom I have been doing it differently with success. I use a deeper glue block mounted to a screwed on faceplate instead of using a chuck. I also use 5 min epoxy to attach it. Rest up and take care of your health. We will be there when you get back. Black magic indeed. I am trying to figure out what kind of dried arrangement I would put in this. I think I would rotate them seasonally but with strong deep colors. Pale colors could wash out. A vase this magical deserves something special. I would even attempt cut flowers with a glass liner inside. So many possibilities. This will be a beautiful centerpiece for a dining table or a tall occasional table. I love it. Oh and for a suggestion how about a matched pair of vases to frame a mantle? Cast with your resin shavings and thoughtfully placed pieces of wood or pine cone ( loofa maybe)I think that would be spectacular. Thank you for another wonderful work.
Truly a stunning art piece! From the deep ocean to the most gorgeous aurora when lit. I actually like the faint marks... just little reminders that it really is handmade and not churned out of some sweat shop. I need to start getting rid of some stuff so I might be able to justify buying one of these from you. Designer epoxy
It's absolutely fascinating watching you turn and listening to your thought process as you work. And, to be honest, I'm glad you didn't edit out all the problems this beauty of a piece gave you. I've watched other turners and they would have us believe that everything goes smoothly from start to finish. We all know that's BS. The voiceovers are not optional in my opinion....keeps it real. Thanks for being you.
Very nice again. Did you plan the cove to be the right size for the steady rest wheels or was it a happy accident? I like the contrast of the black resin and the light wood.
Damn, I only recently found your channel but I think I already found my current favorite woodturning project. I wish I had a ton of cash, I want like ten of these vases!!
love the vase size and shape really like the way you turned out the sharp edges and the beading, also glad to hear you struggle with the shaping in keeping it without ridges lets me know I'm not alone but I'll never be in the same class as you in design and artistry, or just plain skill but i do learn a lot from your videos I just got my pressure pot in and set up and turned my first resin piece its ok but lacks the pop you get hopefully I'll get there but enjoying it anyway. my biggest drawback right now is waiting for my bowl blanks to dry so I can Blend them with some Designer Epoxy. I thought I sent this yesterday morning but found it still waiting. by the way take whatever time you need to heal we will wait or watch old videos still a lot to see in those.
