Hey thanks for dropping by! If you love stationery then you've come to the right place. I share my love for anything paper related in this wonderful planner community. Join me in my weekly uploads and see what I am currently using.
What a fantastic and comprehensive review thank you! I reviewed the First Blue edition for FPN so it is lovely to see this edition. I have 8 highlighted to explore further from your review!
Loved seeing your flip through! That weekly layout is really nice and the fountain pen cleaning tracker is such a good idea! I’ve been enjoying planning in my Plotter Bible too but need be more consistent in my setup, there are just too many layouts and pages I want to include. 😅
Hello, I will go to Japan next year. I am interested in customizing a planner at TSL Kurashiki. How much does the planner cost? How much does it cost to customize? Thank you because I can't find any information on the website.
There is a small fee to customize each add on. I spent over $400 CAD for everything. The most expensive is the custom cover. The more customization you add, obviously the more it costs. Enjoy Japan next year!
Really enjoyed seeing your flip through ❤ it's giving me ideas for my Plotter that I've been saving. You have a great variety of inserts that I wouldn't have thought of without this video. Thanks for sharing 😊 loving the Plotter content
I think the brass backing goes great with the brown cover! Funny because I just posted a video about testing all the pens that can fit in the PLOTTER pen holder - it's definitely worth it! Thanks for sharing.
@@stationery.shenanigans I'll probably be ordering the plotter pen holder next time I do an order. So far so good with this alternative DaVinci. I will check your video! ☺️
I’m wary of using amazon japan now as i was scammed $420 after I ordered from them. Luckily bank refunded but took awhile. Love your plotter, I’m getting more and more tempted 😍
Oh my, did your amzn jpn order get lost? How did they scam you? I know it is a risk if anything happens because I don't speak Japanese and calling customer service would be very hard if not impossible. I'm glad you got your money back but I'd be weary too if something like this happened.
Glad you're enjoying your plotter. I love how you're using it. Curious were the edges of leather turning black before or after the black crochet pouch? Seems strange the brown leather would patina black only on the edges.
@@Saturdays.Script I think it was around the same time when I started putting it in the crochet pouch. Can't say for sure but I guess it would make sense that the yarn could have made it darker. I guess I just can't win! 🙃
@toxmot I have a black crochet crossbody that transfers color to my clothes. I think burnished edges will definitely make it uniquely yours and give it a cool look! 😎
I'm going to have my own room for the first time ever soon, I currently share one with my sister and we're totally different, that's why I'm so excited to have my own space that I can fill with my interests and beautiful objects that interests me and reflects me. I really love your space and your desk is gorgeous, I'm still looking for a desk that suits my needs and yours is inspiring me for real. That classiky drawer! adding it to my wishlist right now!
I can feel how excited you are to customize your new personal space! I enjoy it so much and like to change it up until I find the perfect setup. Just remember to take your time to add pieces you love to the space. Once you find the perfect desk, it will inspire other pieces to come into your space naturally. At least that’s how I feel. I was using a generic desk for years until I came across this desk at a discount price. Have fun with it!
It’s holding up just fine - the build quality is excellent for the price. I don’t tend to use it much since I’m not usually in the Pocket size notebooks. It’s one of those covers that I won’t worry about if I throw it in my bag. I wish they had more colour options though.
Also big fan of the Moleskine Weekly Calendar. The only issue is the paper Everytime I switch notebooks while holding ink pen I regret forgetting how poor quality the Moleskines paper is and got bleed instantly.
This is the reason why I try to not use Moleskine - however, you may be able to use fountain pen with no bleed if you use an extra fine nib with dry ink. I think I’ve done it before with no issues! So it is possible.
Really hope Filofax ups their game. I feel like it is the only British stationery brand capable of holding their own internationally and it would be so sad if they let standards slip. There are a lotnof very cheaply made organisers on the market and while it is right to offer a lower end product for those on stricter budgets, they definitely need to be sure to keep their production standards to a certain level. I usually get all mine secondhand because I can't afford new, but I have had really good experiences with Filofax as a brand. I wish they refreshed the Calipso. I have a purple one I bought in Japan but it feels like they are phasing them out. They are a brilliant compact option, and I don't remember the pen loop being problematic like on the compact saffianos. Wish they did more colour options too! I'm thinking to go back to rings next year, using all Bindex inserts (Nolty, Japanese) as I love the flexibility and creative options, so really enjoying your thoughts on ringbound. Plotters are way out of my price range but excited for you anyway 😅 But going back to my original point before I waffled, I hope Filofax steps up their game as they do have very strong competitors these days with Plotter, Moterm, VDS etc. and I feel quite sentimental about Filofax as a brand hehe ❤
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Filofax. They really do have an international presence and I hope they will keep innovating and update their popular lines (and of course keep a standard of quality). I do also worry about some of our other favourite brands getting too big and then having to cut costs in production. For Filofax, I would have loved to get their Calipso organizer if it was readily available to me. I’ve eyed them for many years and it’s sad they do not offer it anymore. I’ve searched eBay but am selective about colour. How lovely that you were able to pick one up in Japan! I love the Bindex inserts so far, will definitely consider them for 2025 too. Yes, I agree that the plotters are priced so high, which is sad because I can’t justify a second one.
I purchased the pink one from the Starbucks Reserve in Tokyo. They are exclusives but you can purchase it online from Japanese Etsy sellers! The brass small one is the latest release from Traveler’s Company Tokyo collection which you can still get!
Same problem with the Filofax Saffiano compact i ordered from Amazon - the clasp came apart, even for the replacement! Glue was so brittle. I think it’s a design flaw coz the inner layer of the flap is way shorter than the outer layer. If folded and closed, it’s ok but when you open and stretch it out it will naturally pull apart because the inner flap was too short. And the penloop is useless coz I cant even fit any pen 🤦🏻♀️
EXACTLY!! It’s such a design flaw…I returned mine back to Amazon. I hope they fix this in the future because otherwise I love the saffiano compact. My after-thoughts were that if the clasp can’t compensate for other bigger pens than tiny ones, why even make the pen holder an elastic one? It’s like a slap in the face. For the LV ones, it’s tiny and not elastic - feels much more intentional that they intended for mini pens only!
Hello fellow canuck :) The custom fees did add up a lot at around $50 unfortunately. For us, I believe getting it from Plotter directly is the only option if you want a brand new one. Hopefully they will expand to retailers in Canada as well in the future. But you’ll end up paying for the import tax within the price either way. Another option is to check BST groups for second hand. Which plotter do you have your eye on?
I had issues with FedEx this year when I ordered Hobonichi. The first package never arrived. The second one did finally weeks later. I was like well I guess I wasn’t supposed to have these notebooks.
That must have been so frustrating! I feel like out of all of them, FedEx is the one that gives me the most anxiety. I’m glad you ended up getting your second shipment but it sucks that the first one never arrived! They need to do better!
The Plotter looks splendid! Not sure about the price though; when you're all set up with it, I'd love to know if you think it's worth it, with regards to quality. Delighted you have it now after the FedEx fiasco :)
I wasn't a ring-user since the age of Filofax in the 90s. Ordered a Plotter bible sized Pueblo leather in beige online (it's not available in Europe) a couple of months ago. And I love it. The tiny rings are a game changer.
@@angelaschneider571 Nice choice, I think the pueblo leather ages so well. My brown one is showing wear very quickly. The beige I think is the one that ages the best in terms of patina. Is this true? And yes, the rings I love so far!
@@toxmot you're right, the beige Pueblo ages fast and really nice. I'm totally in love with it! 😀 I also love the brown one. I'll be in NY in September and I'll go to Yoseka (that's where I ordered mine) and maybe I'll buy the slim Pueblo in brown.
Thank you for this video! When you talked about Filofax's quality control, I felt seen! So, I think their saffiano line is geared at being vegan leather and more compact, travel friendly. Those planners are the cheapest. Now, I just got a personal sized planner in Lilac from the Original collection that was so expensive...and 2 of the rings started gapping less than of month with barely any use. I'll keep using this one until I find the perfect Japanese bible sized organizer with rings that aren't microscopic!
@@SrirachaSandvvitch I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Filofax! However, my original Filofax has definitely lasted for years but it was purchased over 7 years ago. I was on Amazon Japan looking around before I decided on the plotter and saw that the Knox and Da Vinci brands have bible size in non-slim rings 🙂
Hey Toxmot. I do not have a plotter, but I am thinking about getting the exact same one that your have, from Atlas. I have not pulled the trigger because I too cannot decide which color I am going to like the most. Glad to know someone else struggles with making these decisions. Unlimited funds and I'd get them all... thanks for the unboxing.💜
When I was making my decision into which colour to get, I watched all the videos and wished there were more. Different videos have different lighting so it always helps to see it in all types of lighting conditions. Which colours are you deciding between?
@@toxmot I'll be getting the Bible in either Brown, or Navy. But I too have watched all the videos I can. I woke up this morning and watched 20 of em. the brown looked really nice sitting on your desk. That is what I am leaning towards. This thing is so expensive for what it is, I'd hate to not love it.
@@robbourne1950 That's exactly what I was feeling too. I think both brown and navy are gorgeous. The navy in dimmer videos looks almost black to me. For reference, I filmed my brown in afternoon natural daylight. The photos in the Facebook group and Reddit really helped my decision too.
Thank you for your thoughts on your 2nd Plotter. I’m kinda in the same boat. I bought my first (in horsehair) and I’m not loving the feel of it so much. Kicking myself because I should’ve just gone with my first choice which is the Pueblo. Glad I’m not the only one who faced a similar first impression. 😁 I hope this is the one for you and that you enjoy using it going forward. It’s beautiful!
I think Plotter offers very unique textures and with that comes uncertainty especially if buying online. I hope the horsehair leather grows on you. The Shrink leather did not grow on me so I had no choice but to sell it. I’m much happier now with the Pueblo. I hope they come out with more colours in the Pueblo because it reminds me of the Traveler’s Company notebook leathers but softer.
I hear horse hair is pretty much pueblo just with scratches. I am considering getting one. What is it that you don’t enjoy about it, if you are willing to share?
I have been using my Gillio Slim Compagna with the older 14mm non-Krause rings for over 6 years. The quality is amazing and it has aged beautifully. Hope you find a cover you love.
I really want to try rings and I discovered I also enjoy a slim profile. I got the same saffiano in black (I had already watched your video about it coming apart, but mine was a huge bargain, only £16! so I took the risk). I am thinking that when I get fed up of the saffiano cheap feel and want real leather, I can use the removable rings of one of those saffiano zipped wallet covers I have, and pop it either in my deringed malden or in my A6 Gillio appunto... or whatever else fits it!
What a great price your filofax find was! It's impossible to see those prices here. I've seen ppl DIY the rings before and since you have those already, what a great idea! And I hope your saffiano doesn't come apart like mine did!
I was at a fabric store to buy leather off-cuts a few weeks ago. I'd already picked up a nice piece of brown leather when I spotted some baby blue off-cuts in another bin. When I picked one up I noticed that there was a plastic-y coating coming off at the edge of the leather. When I took it up to the counter and asked what it was, the lady told me that the particular 'saffiano' leather I picked up is genuine leather (sometimes lower quality) that has a plastic coating applied to it. That is why some saffiano comes in such lovely colours, but unfortunately that pretty coloured coating is just plastic... It seems that saffiano just means the cross-hatched texture? It looks like both genuine and synthetic leather can have this applied.
Interesting…to my understanding, saffiano is supposed to be a certain texture on the leather - so I have the same thoughts as you. I’ve purchased real saffiano leather before and this Filofax texture didn’t come close at all unfortunately.
@@toxmot Hello I wanted to give an update. I got mine the day after I posted this comment 🤭. It hasn’t broken on me yet and so far so good. I just didn’t like the pen loop placement either so I cut it off.
@@DaisyzDayz That's so brave of you! I thought about cutting it off but really needed a pen loop. It's too bad the clasp doesn't accept bigger pens. I have since returned mine to Amazon.
Yep! The clasp glue comes undone. That has happened with my older Saffiano binders . The Holborn rings in personal are not great either. Quality issues are not being observed and corrected. And the rings are not interchangeable easily. Ugh!😩
@@yvettecasey-hunter1504 Interesting, I’m thinking it’s the type of glue that is on the saffianos. The glue on mine looks old and yellow. If I’d got it for half the price I wouldn’t be as bothered but still, something new shouldn’t come apart. I’m excited for the plotter but it’s definitely not cheap either 🙈
Sucks… yes, vintage Filofaxes are better quality! I feel like the high end Filofaxes are still good but the economical models are all made in china or India and probably not made to last unfortunately. I hope the plotter works for you!
I checked out vintage Filofaxes and at the time I was looking, didn’t see any that caught my eye and there was very few. Definitely will stick with higher end Filofaxes for the future!
@@toxmot I have a filofax croc and it's really nice! but it is one of the most expensive ones, you might as well order a custom from vds unless you find a deal! I hope the plotter works though - it looks very sleek!
@@toxmot awhile back I ordered the pocket croc, and the leather was so dry I almost sent it back. in the end I oiled it and it looked better, but I should have sent it back. the quality was not there for the price.
Aw man, that is terrible about the binder breaking twice. I hope you return the binder to Amazon- that’s a lot to pay for a faux leather binder that is broken (again). I hope the plotter works out. I’m using a Holborn personal- I’m pretty sure they make a compact in that model if you are still looking.
Thanks for suggesting, I actually just packaged it up and will return it to Amazon. I am very excited for my potter! I checked out the Holborn when I was shopping around for my Filofax, will definitely be considering leather only options next time!
i’m sorry to hear that the filofax you got is such bad quality… it seems like there’s been a drop in quality recently. i hope you like your plotter when it arrives! your setup looks super cute!
Sorry to hear the quality hasn't been great :( It is a lovely Filofax though, and a nice simple planning system you have too. Looking forward to your Plotter video. Many thanks.
So very sorry for the disappointment of Filofax quality. You should never have to glue anything that did not come up to standards. I think we are facing a real quality issue with a few once-adored brands, not just Filofax. I truly understand about the bound vs ring dilemma. I think it has to do with the process. I tried bound for planning....Epic Fail. So, it's rings/discs for planning and bound for journaling, for me. Period. I hope that the Plotter makes a difference for you. TFS your experience.
I agree, it’s not just Filofax; many other companies are also cutting back. It doesn’t make it ok but shrinkflation certainly doesn’t help. So far, ring bound for planning and bound notebooks for journaling is a great balance for my needs too. Hopefully I can be content in this for a long time and at least until the end of the of the year. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
Thx for watching - we used Sakura mobile but there are many great ones at the airport. The main reason why we went with Sakura was so I could purchase it in advance before arriving. It did take a bit of time to locate the kiosk but they provide an envelop to drop the device into a mailbox so that was convenient upon departure.
That 2023 insert set looks like the one that came with my Norfolk personal. The 2024 set looks like the one that came with my Saffiano Fawn Compact as well!
