Well thanks for that. But all you did was foreplay. Because you failed abysmally to show how to attach a handle to the blade. You talked at length about honing and jack ####, about actually using the razor. Buddy your girl must be very frustrated all foreplay and no action . Don't waste people's time. You are better off doing auto self gratification.
Great demo. My dad was an expert with one of these and had the same one all his life. The tips on conditioning the stone and leather were really useful. Just a comment on your honing/stropping action. The idea is to keep the handle low on the same side and push-pull it quickly without it swinging the arm over. This saves time and requires much less effort. My dad used to click-clack it at great speed which you could hear all over the house. This is a little masterpiece of engineering right down to the safety bar, which keeps the blade edge at a safe angle while in use.
Thanks for the informative video! I just bought myself a Rolls and didn't know how to care for the honing stone and strop. You had me worried there for a while about which plate was on which side of the case but the small indents at the end are reversed so that the honing stone and strop always go back on the right side for the mechanism. I'm hoping that with what I've learned here I'll have found my "new" favorite razor and will be keeping it in great condition for decades if not longer!
Very nice to know of other means of cutting whiskers on our faces. I've never know of Rolls Razors prior to this informative video. Thank you for sharing with us. Quick question please, what's the best source to buy a Rolls Razor from? any feedback will be very much appreciated and thanks again for sharing with us.

Oumo brushes has some great customization and they're also experimenting with breeding domesticated badgers for shearing hairs instead of having to kill wild badgers. Not sure how well that'll turn out, but it seems worth giving it a try, since wild badgers are extremely aggressive and tenacious.
I have a Silvertip Chubby No2. The issue is not really the lathering capabilities because that is a given, but the fact that the Simpson bristles feel very luxurious on the face.
Great demo, I’ve just got a rolls with case and two small glass bottles like salt and pepper but one with no holes in the top and one with powder in it, what is the powder and what would have been in the empty one?
Nice review. My dad literally just pasted me one of these today. He found it in an old bag with a bunch of DE blades. While its out of the cardboard packaging, its still in the plasic case with the 5 gillette platinum blades (unopened). The razor itself has never been used, since he bought it way back in early 1983. fyi - The only difference with the 80's model (i can see) and the one reviewed, the underside of the head has a plastic base (where it attaches to the handle). But the whole head assembly itself, is all metal. Nice piece of kit, but i think i'll keep this one in 'mint' condition. I'll stick with the other gillettes i have (a 60's Fatboy, a 60's Gillette travel razor*my go to at the mo* and a fatboy slim gold ('man with the golden gun version' of the Aristocrat razor) :)
So how did you like your Merkur 37c once it came? Is the knurling half as nice as the hoffritz? I bought a muhle R89 and disliked the hollow cheap handle & faux knurling it had. The Merkurs look the same but I haven’t handled one in person yet to be sure.
Many years ago my Dad bought one from an antique shop. Didn’t know how to use it; nor I until your video. I inherited it from him and will finally give it a try! Wish he could have seen it in action. Thanks so much! 👍👍
so the blade is stropped with the blade digging into the leather? odd, but I guess it would be a faster strop, though you would wear the leather a lot faster nvm it's just on the wrong side. it's still supposed to be stropped pulling away on the leather
I knew I would find something on this product. Just found mine at an estate sale. Got it for 5 bucks. I knew it was some sort of razor and as soon as I saw England on it I knew it had to be good.
Thanks for this. I was born in 1945, and this is the sound of my childhood - living in hotels and boarding houses and hearing many razors being stropped at the same time. An eerie sound indeed.
