I’d be interested in hearing more abut the specific communication techniques from verbal to hand signal and so on. Always interested in that part of technique. Also, would love to hear more about your own pro experiences and so on, maybe like your favorite game/play/experience kind of stuff.
You said 2 shouldn’t rotate over after 1 passes and cuts because of ball denial, do you not teach automatic back cut off the denial or when the defender crosses the 3 point line
Keep in mind this is a offensive action so the goal is to put the defense in a position where there are mismatches. There is pretty much always a strong and weak side on offense. The term just means the side with the ball and the most players really. The advantage to going to the strong side in this specific action is that it creates matchup problem for the 2-3 defense. Hope this makes sense.:)
As someone who has never played basketball at any level beyond “Horse” with any skill whatsoever, and only understanding the basic rules of the court, your videos always teach me something that helps me better understand the overall play of the game. Thank you, as always, for sharing your expert knowledge and experience!
I have a question what’s the second option once a team starts to figure it out? Would it be player 5 coming up setting a high screen and rolling? But. I like this a lot! I will be running this next game with my team.
There is no wrong answer to your question. In an effort to keep it simple. I would probably work on teaching reads. For everything they take away there is a counter. For example if the defense is beating the offensive player through the baseline screen. Simply have the offensive player pop back along the baseline for a wide open jumper. Hope this answer makes sense.
Thanks for the video coach. Can you make a video or give me advice on how to create easy buckets off a 2-3 zone when the other team just clogs the paint. I teach youth basketball and I know a 2-3 zone can be very effective because many times there’s a lack of good shooting at this age. I do not ever run any kind of zone defense, even at the expense of losing games, just because it doesn’t teach this age group defensive fundamentals. But a lot of coaches do. What advice can you offer? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you sir.
Hi, thanks for the question. I’m in agreement with you about zone defense in youth basketball. It’s terrible for the players. There is no easy answer to your question. Two things that might help out. 1. If they are packing it in, move your offense inside the 3 point line. 2. Really teach your players ball fakes. Fake a pass to make a pass is extremely effective against a zone. Those are two things I’d start with and of course the no brained is work on your outside shooting but I understand that’s tough at that young age. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anything more.
I totally disagree. To learn the flex takes lots of time. Great high school offense. At the youth level teach 5 out with actions. Give and go, back screen, pin down, horns, zoom, blind pig, post, dribble weave. You can literally call them these things. Kids learn their names and work on important concepts that are used in most offenses.
I don’t see how flex would be tougher to learn than 5 out but then again maybe I’m wrong. I think 5 out is a great offense but I think flex has more opportunities to teach fundamentals. Offensively and defensively.
You just listed a whole bunch of options to youth kids? Flex is down screen with a back screen over and over. Not that hard to figure out at the youth level.
Hey coahreat vid so if let's say i have a player st the middle school level who wants to playor his team but has no experience with organized ball and thigs like motion offense, offensive sets and thigs like that is their maybe a basic or base motion offesne he could learn just so he can start to grasp some of the basic concepts? Of course every offense/offensive set is a a little different but was just wondering is their somewhere we can go so we can strt with rhe fundamentals
Hey thanks for the comment. I would probably teach flex. It’s a simple offense but there is opportunity to teach a lot of thing in it. Pass and cut, setting a screen, using a screen, setting up a cut etc. it’s pretty straight forward to learn. I just released a video on it tonight.
@@RichardTroyerBasketball AWESOME I appreciate it coach thanks for responding one other question do you have any other additional resources for helping a kid new to the organized game with understanding things like different offensive sets some of the differences between a motion offense and a continuous offense and maybe breakdowns of what to do when certain scenarios in an offense occur such as if a player chooses to drive etc. we have a lot to learn and any info would be greatly appreciated thanks
Hey John, I do not have anything other than the stuff on my channel as of right now. I would love to help. If you would like to jump on a call sometime just shoot me an email. Rich@richardtroyer.com. I would do my best to answer all your question.
@@RichardTroyerBasketball ok coach appreciate you and your channel I will definitely try to reach out to you in about a week or so when I have some free time again thanks for respondin to some of my questions and keep up the great bball content
True to both points. The main point of the video is how to get open in the high post. If only players realized that playing the bottom in a zone is easy buckets if you can read the defense.
Thank you! This is great, we are heading into the competitive part of our schedule and I anticipate a few teams who will throw some different presses at us.
Nice. Can you please make a video on how to score in the high post? Or how a player should practice if they want to score against a 2-3 zone, whether they are a guard or a big. Thanks.
